Wasn't space mountain long turn into some Marvel shit?

was space mountain a cartoon or comic?

Whenever I think of space Mountain, I could smell the air in the tunnel.

Was anyone ever alive here that went on alien encounter? What are the chances they ever bring it back and was it as scary as people say?

The one in Disneyland goes in between Star Wars and guardians of the Galaxy.

Fuuuuuuck
Space Mountain was always my favorite coaster at Disney. Sure the old 50s esque theming was hokey but God dammit I liked the fantastical depictions of various planets and old robots and stuff in the queue. It had goddamn character
They already took splash mountain from me. I guess they need to take the one other.
At least expedition Everest is safe. I think the can never touch that one
>>
>>154998519
Clearly it needs to be rethemed after some well known Disney IP.

Perhaps Stich
or Buzz Lightyear
or Wall-E
>>
>>154998519
I remember this thing from a comic with Scrooge and Donald. A friendly alien accidentally ends up on Earth and it takes refuge in Space Mountain because it reminds it of it's home. As a kid I didn't realize it was a thinly veiled ad.
>>
>>154998615
Nah but it's Disney and we don't exactly have a board for theme parks. They don't care about one off threads like this
>>
>>154998519
Enshittification of everything is mandatory, even the happiest place in the world must become not so happy anymore
>>

But what IP will replace it? Disney sucks when it comes to original sci-fi shit.

There where plans to replace it with Wreck It Ralph but it was scrapped

>Was anyone ever alive here that went on alien encounter? What are the chances they ever bring it back and was it as scary as people say?
Geez, it wasn't THAT long ago, was it? It only closed... almost 25 years ago, okay fine. Don't they have videos of it or something so you can judge for yourself? I remember they show you a glimpse of a scary alien, the lights go out, they make a big hubbub about it running about, they do atmospheric shit like flickering lights and seeing skittering around, and "4-D" effects like it breathing vapor on your neck. I did think it was cool as an experience.

I did it within a couple years of it opening at maybe 6 years old. I'm sure it could scare a young or sensitive child (or one whose relative is priming them to be scared). I was super sensitive and my mom was trying to fuck with me but I still understood it was obviously pretend. My mom ended up absolutely freaking out though lol.

Funny enough, even with my mom and the people there trying to convince me it was real, my little autist brain was like "what, they have real alien shit and teleportation? nobody has made a big deal out of it, they just put it in Disney instead (not even in Epcott where the actual tech stuff is). and you go and get strapped in like a ride. called 'extraTERRORestial alien encounter'. like they know the scary alien is going to appear even though it's supposedly a big surprise or whatever. yeah, right"
BUT I was actually scared at the Universal Terminator one where while you're in the theatre they have terminators pop out of little coffins or whatever. I thought "wait, robots are actually getting pretty good. what if these aren't just regular animatronics but tech demos and they can actually move around? what if they just happen to malfunction this time for real? maybe the guns aren't real but what if we could actually get hurt by them?" I was allowed to watch the Simpsons as a kid, and the Itchy & Scratchy Land episode was still pretty fresh lol
>>
>>154999595
Make it Star Wars. Jar Jar Binks pratfalling around while you're strapped in and forced to watch his antics. He gets real in your face and loud. Terrifying.

Yeah gee I wonder what space themed property they'd be likely to use
>>
Just keep it as the OG space Mountain. Dont do the Disneyland shit with MCU.
>>
>>154998669
Everest really needs a refurb. Not even talking about the yeti, its the most uncomfortable coaster in the park.
>>
>>155002851
Cosmic Rewind is relatively recent plus GotG has wrapped up, and Galaxy's Edge would be easier to rework for the next SW trilogy, so it's a genuine tossup what they're going to do.

>>155003257
Forget the theming, they'd better not port over the DL carts. The bobsleds have legroom and you're not pressed into some sweaty stranger.

>ride is just a couple of sharp turns inside a dark room
Wow what a great attraction
>>
Space mountain hasnt really been the same to me since the first time I went on the early 00s.

First time was little space models and robots in the line. Dark ride wirh lights whipping by you.

Since then the little models and robos were mostly replaced by screens. Half the time when I ride the ride, they leave rhe lights on or some shit.

The last good time on space mountain was the year the lights were christmas lights and they played run run reindeer.
>>
>>154998920
Probably will be Wall-E. You join him on his journey to the Axiom.

>>154998615
Apart from the aforementioned comic, it's used as the design for Star Command HQ from the Buzz Lightyear cartoons.

I love this stuff, it’s pure seventies sci-fi cheese.
>>
>>154998920
There are so many Stitch and Buzz themed things already they don't need to absorb more. The executives would never let them but they should try to make up their own theming and mascot for it like Figment. Then see if that turns into something more media friendly later.
>>
>>154998519
The entire section of the park needs work. They keep closing stuff and removing decorations and now it's that weird empty area with a couple old things to do.

They really should never have left the Jetsons wacky future look. There is no point in making a magical fairytale land park try to have a plausible looking possible future zone, just go full Buck Rogers with it and have robots and lasers everywhere. Scifi IS a fairytale genre too.
>>
>>155002851
>>154998920
Disney does not really own enough decent scifi series, and the ones they do have are taken already.

They have a Star Wars section of a park
They have a Tron ride
They have like 5 different Buzz Lightyear rides
They have 2 Stitch rides, and closed a few in the past

All that's left are shitty series that never made much money like Meet the Robinsons, Treasure Planet, Elio, and some forgotten things like Wall-E and various Disney channel movies. They never did a lot with Scifi.

Wreck-it-Ralph might be the closest they have to a scifi concept to do something with. Not exactly space related. But their best bet might be to turn that into Tomorrowland's Pirates of the Caribbean/Haunted Mansion. If anything it needs it's own unique theming to make it stand out some more. Make up a few robots and aliens then stick them in places in the queue and exit tunnel. Ant put them on the screens, maybe make up a name and description of whatever alien world you are flying to and have the alien come from there.
>>
>>154998519
That's sad
>>
>>155004554
This music is what I think about when I think about Disney World. No joke. This queue is peak wonder.

1. Not forgotten
2. Doesn't really matter because wall e is instantly likeable. They could theme the ride for him and people would love ir

They already butchered Splash Mountain
>>

Disneyland is better anyway
>>
>>154998519

>>
>>155005923
The real problem with Tomorrowland is the Speedway. It's just shitty go-karts and takes up a massive amount of space.

Crazy how this went from being the greatest ride at the park to the worst. Fuck Tiana and fuck Disney for caving into people that don't even visit their parks.
>>
>>155009123
>to the worst
It's mid.
>>
cant wait for Marvels space race: adventure into quantum mountain featuring Ant Man
>>
When I was very little I thought that there was only one Disneyland and that it was like a corporate city. I thought that all the studios and stuff were housed there and the people who worked there lived in it with their families. In my child mind the place even had it's own laws and the children didn't have to go to school there. Partially because they were working alongside their parents.
>>
>>155009076
It's shitty go karts that all share a track so everyone goes at the speed of the 5 year old in front that has no idea what they are doing. It's basically Stuck in Traffic:the Ride.
>>
>>155009076
That really should be the first thing replaced when Cars Land opens up. They really don't need a go kart track somewhere else in the park.

Same with the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, once Monsteropolis is open in Hollywood, it's kind of pointless.
>>
>>155009123
Tiana's Bayou is just incredibly boring. The whole thing just looks really half ass, most of the decorations are gone, most of the animatronics are gone, there are some spots with no decoration at all. Just empty cave for a while. The whole thing is
>Riding down a river
>Some animals sing songs (But not hearing the Going Down the Bayou song from the movie)
>You shrink
>You see some bugs sing songs
>Go down waterfall
>The end

Also no Dr Facilier was fucking stupid.
>>
>>154998561
>>154998584
I wish they announced the closing of Stitch's Great Escape in advance. I never got to experience either that OR Alien Encounter. If I knew they were closing, I would've used my emergency savings to visit Florida.
>>
>>155009544
They have Ray's disembodied voice singing Goin' Down the Bayou even though he's supposed to be dead at this point in time.
>>
>>154998920
ENOUGH OF THE IP SHIT
BRING ORIGINAL STUFF BACK TO THE PARKS

>>154998669
They'll close it in a year to make another Frozen ride.
>>
>>155000668
That sounds hilarious, but they already tried doing it comedic with Stitch and people didn't like it. If they have to bring in IP stuff, I'd say Alien, Deadpool, or Gravity Falls. Just imagine Deadpool fighting an army of monsters that are killing parkgoers.
>>
>>155000638
Alien Encounter was very much not something anyone would ever expect to find in a Disney park at all.

There is also a part where some guy walks up into the rafters above the audience and the alien kills him, splashing water on the audience while the lights are out.
>>
>>155009344
>>155009359
I didn't realize until I looked at an aerial view, but the Speedway takes up almost as much acreage as Space Mountain plus its gift shop. You could probably fit two Seven Dwarves Mine Train-sized attractions in the space if you utilize verticality. Personally I think they need a proper restaurant in Tomorrowland, and removing the Laugh Floor would be a perfect spot.

>>155009544
It's "we have Na'vi River Journey at home" complete with all the problems of Na'vi River Journey.
>>
>>154998627
Alien Encounter wasn't that popular when it was open. They wouldn't bring it back. I'd like them to do it as a seasonal attraction, though.
>>
>>154998574
That's a harsh way to look at it, don'tcha think?

>>
>>155012996

>>
>>155007709
They haven't announced changes at all. OP is reporting on rumors.
To answer your question though, the rumors said it would be a track replacement, new ride vehicles, added effects, and a change to the interior queue layout

Imagine if they kept Alien Encounter intact but only had it open during the halloween season

Would have been very cool.
>>
>>155013039
So basically what happened to the DL one back in the early 2000s. That's what I figured.

>>155011644
I'm reminded of stories/rumors I've heard about them considering a Black Hole themed restaurant in the area near Space Mountain.
