The movies really messed up making him look like someone you'd donate money to his country.
He's cool, but I feel like Marvel hasn't really known what to do with him a long while.

He just had a different name in the movie.What I mean by that is that Iron Man does what he does better as a lead character, Tony has to figure out how his suit works and struggles to make new things and deal with being vulnerable with the shards that could reach his heart. When he fails you’re sure he can science himself up and answer and still be the one in the fight shortly after coming out on top, appealing to both sides of the struggle of inventiveness but also physically punching and exploding the bad guy. He’s suave but he has weaknesses and he’s powerful but he has vulnerability.War Machines problem is obviously he isn’t making the armor, he’s not designing the new power, he’s waiting for someone else to figure out how to make the new laser to beat the new villain. He’s an exsoldier so he doesn’t really have the background to make it believable if he could just make new armor that did better things. His powers are just given to him by other people, mostly governments, so what he brings to the table isn’t very inspiring because it removes the personal step of overcoming the challenge before the next villain is even fought. As a result if hes up against something he can’t defeat with the stuff someone handed him, he kind of has to hope the villain just gives up with an appeal to emotion, and that’s a pretty lame way to end a superhero fight. Sound familiar? It should, and it’s why Falcons movie was doomed to fail before it ever got started.

>>155007329I don't know how to explain it but along with his cast iron color scheme WM keeping to conventional weapons as IM uses energy based tools and has a custom paint job is conceptually the coolest shit.That sort of same-but-different design philosophy tells me a writer or artist understands the assignment of creativity.Tangent example is how the MCU made Bucky a super soldier, but his use of his cybernetic arm, firearms and ruthless training helped him differ from how Steve uses similar abilities.Throw in Black Panther's agile cat dynamic and every scene between the three was just chef's kiss.In comparison the Black Panther movies and Falcon and the Winter Soldier show completely lost aura, as the kids say, by making everything special effects and clumsy brawling.

His design is an attempt of making something easy to draw and super hero like.As the ironman comic progresses you can see the advancement on art/perception of robots like in picrel. Thats the 90's thing i have ever seen and its such a shame a good design like this is only used for like 2 issues.

For Example in Dennis O'neil run Rhodey was ironman while Tony dealt with his alcoholism. Rhodey inevitably encounters the mandarin, he can't beat him due to his inexperience so he escapes with an inch of his life. So what does he do? Uses his enviroment. The chinese sent his airforce after finding out an american super hero crossed it's borders, Rhodey realizes none of them speak an inch of english he decides to head straight towards mandarin's mountain lair and bait the airforce's missiles while destroy the mountain anti air defences and tears it open.Also this era is the only time we see ironman wearing a coat.

Ben 10 has serviceable art in the first two series which are the ones I watched, but Man of Action -cannot- draw mechanical stuff. you just get humanoids with random lines drawn on them and 'there, that's a mech suit'even Badgerclops from Mao Mao had a better mecha arm, because they actually drew it bending as if those were proper joints.. sometimes.but yeah, capecomics mecha, the best you can get usually is a bunch of cables or ribbed lines with heavy blacks to sell that it's metallic.

That there was something akin to an elite police force and guards to help take down bad guys It scratched that world building itch that I had as a kid. The iron legion was way too much rdj ego stroke for my liking and it kind of nerfed the entire setting.
