It is good that old webcomics are preserved. They are windows into popular culture of the era. Not mass popular culture but the niches enabled to grow by the internet.

This one is by a Brain/Kaleus who went to high school with Steph and was involved in a comic called Supermegatopia I've never read, but Steph used to mention a lot
On the subject, someone did some digging to try to find out what Swamp Opossum(a very old Steph comic only heard about in whispers) and found this forum post>"For everyone else, Brian/Kaelus is my old friend since middle and high school. That's why nobody knows who Swamp Opossum is... it was an old comic I drew in pencil from 1996-1998, went to about 21 issues. It was never on the internet and only maybe a dozen or so people read each issue, but that's where the "opossum avatar" comes from so the memory lives on." So seemingly it was just something she did in high school and never was online(albeit several anons seemingly had memories of reading it so I dunno for sure)

The End...of the original run. (Tune in tomorrow in about 20 hours when we start the MAIN run from 2004-2008. It's some of the authors finest work)
Muertitos ran from September 2001 to September 2002, only a year. It initially came out inbetween issues of Flying Suit Reiko(hosted on the same site), but once that ended in February 2002 it ran on it's own, only interrupted by the short oneshot Itazura Hakase in June. After that Steph did Dystopia in early 2003, which ran for 3 issues and was cancelled shortly after Issue 4 started being worked on due to personal issues. Then Steph spent some time fishing around Flying Suit Reiko trying to get SLG to pick it up, and then when that failed she brought back Muertitos in September 2004. That reboot lasted quadruple the length of the short original run and will be storytimed tomorrow.
The comics original tagline was->Trying to get yourself killed? Stop! There's no need to die to find out what's in store in the afterlife! Just read on for all the answers! (ignore the Jessie picture as far as I can tell it would give a randomized manga panel or change daily or something, on some archives it's a Lum picture)
When the site got updated in 2003, this art of all 3 protagonists (Honeo Death, Kobayashi Reiko, and Crash Nutria) was posted on the main page
In late 2004 when the Flying Suit Reiko site got it's last update(Steph moved to Keenspace), she gave every issue descriptions. She also posted this update>Now that I'm working on the Keenspace version of Muertitos full time, I doubt much new stuff will be showing up here. At least not new stuff by me. Let that stand as a cryptic pronouncement. Anyway, most of this old stuff is a bit embarassing now. I've improved a lot both in drawing skill and in simply knowing what the hell I was doing with the scanner. Please forgive the blurry, nasty look to the drawings and enjoy my seminal issues.

There are some soft retcons and concepts being reused in the second run, like the intro is reused. And some stuff carried over, Fatima shows up once or twice without a proper introduction as does Pele. But the only hard retcon is Miss Sunshine’s backstory, method of execution, killing pattern, and general personality. And I honestly can’t decide which version of her I like better.
