Storytime for the 2004-2008 Keenspace/ComicsGenesis webcomic Muertitos. Be sure to reply with quips or comments to keep the thread bumped and keep me sane! The engagement is nice
1 - Candy Stripers
>>155033492I've always liked the first page. It's a funny but cute way of introducing Honeo
>>155033659It was used 3 times for 3 versions she loved it so much (the "lost issue" she did on pencil in the 90s, and the 2001-2002 run).BTW if you just got here, this is a soft reboot of a shorter and lower quality comic from a couple years prior. You don't need to read that one to understand this, but I did storytime it yesterday and will probably link to it when I take a break. It's about 120ish pages compared to the 550ish pages of this main version
>>155033787>Turning them all into succubiGood idea
Recognize em and win a nothing!
>>155033773>Naga reporterHot
End of Issue1/Storyline1(each one has a couple of bonus pages near the end technically part of it even if not part of the main plot/story)
>>155033966Dib, Lydia, Amy, and Phillip
Story 2 - Revenge of the School
A lot of the characters being introduced here will come up later, keep your eyes peeled.
Story 3 - A Boring Educational Week
I wonder why all the shots of Kumoko are from the waist up....eh it's probably nothing
Story 4 - Octopus Rex(last one before my first break)
>>155034162Some things never change
hope people are still here, threads gone a little quiet. There will be breaks both for my sanity and to let people catch up
>>155034538Someone get a bike pump! It worked for Stanley!
We're only 5 years out
>>155034600She’s hot
End of Issue 4. (I’m taking a break, keep the thread bumped. Most of the Americans should be getting off work and will hopefully be in the thread getting caught up by the time we restart.)
If you're waiting for me to come back and missed yesterday's storytime, why not check out the original 2001-2002 run of Muertitos from FSR? It's sort of in it's own canon, but not fully (some parts basically got remade and some details don't line up), and I seperated it out because it's not as good and looks way worse art quality wise, but there are some references and callbacks to it, and hey, more Muertitos. So if you didn't read it yesterday why not check it out >>155021078 it's 6 issues of 20 pages each. But again, the 2004-2008 one we're reading here is it's own thing so there's no need to go back and read the old version if you don't want to
>>155033659>>155033690It really is the perfect opener to a concept like this.
>>155033754>a tanuki with testicular cancer in wards 3, 4 and 5Talk about balls to the wall.
>>155034054The hero we both need and deserve.
>>155034446Is it wrong to want to fuck a planet?
>>155034529I didn't know there were onions in Oedipus Rex.
>>155034742The last thing the others ever heard was "Let's split up, gang!"
Story 5 - The Mukade Family(good to see the rush has arrived. Hope the activity sticks, bumped threads and funny comments keep me sane. I wanted to get started before the big rush so I'd have a bit of lead room)
I imagine the dad with a Bob Oblong voice
End of Issue 5
Story 6 - Kimberly Kumquat and the Demon Dork
>>155034955Ah, the days when a menu was considered a special feature.
>>155035017>>155035036>The Despotic Little Toaster
Good to see more people. These are the peak hours!
>>155035216Wight Chicks is... inevitable.
>>155035230>toes have corns>corn grows on earsChecks out.
>>155035291>"Unless you're Sasquatch. If you're Sasquatch, the rules are different."
Did Teen Titans fans have an especially bad reputation? I know this was a little before Hetalia became the go-to cringe fandom
>>155036164He does have the hairline for it.
The only character who's voice is canonically confirmed(or at least the only one Steph remembered) in here is that Lafcadio is supposed to sound like John DiMaggio. That's straight from Stephanie herself.
Probably because he's got a lot of Bender inspiration, albeit not enough to be a straight expy(there's also definitely some Master Shake in there and just a smidge of early Cartman)
>>155034432Note that the boat and background elements are slightly different in each one just barely. That’s not a copy paste, Ms. Cherrywell redrew it 4 times.
>>155036457Fool doesn't even realize she's built more like Jinx.
>>155035253Lol, an anon from the old version storytime was right>>155021919
Fatima showing up two pages ago is another good example of why the canonicity of the older run 2001-2002 is iffy>On the one hand, Fatima is here and she's from that and she's not newly introduced>On the other hand she's got her sinus and respiratory problems she was cured of backI sort of consider them grey area, except for the first issue which was just fully retconned and replaced by the intro to this one. Whatever. I storytimed the old one if people wanted to see it, but I kept it seperate because of those weirdness and because it's not nearly as good. No need to read that stuff if you don't want to. It's really just a few small jokes and references like the Banshee girl in Candy Stripers being from the Lesbian Bar in the old version
>Annual Muertitos storytimeOh fuck yeah. OP I know there are few Steph Cherrywell/SSakurai fans on /co/ but those that remain really appreciate your hard work of bringing these back around periodically. It's like a slice of 2000's internet coming temporarily back to life.
>>155036658>>155036669The more things change, the less things change.
>>155036584Youko you fat fuck. You had ONE job
We could be set to break our all time activity record this year with how busy it's been. I'm loving it. I've gotten better at timing these things properly.
End of Story 6 (Issue 6? I dunno I go back and forth on that)
>>155036779Will you be doing Creamy Beamy again as well OP? Fuckin love me some Creamy Beamy.
Before we move onto the next issue, here's the character sheet with colored art and descriptions that was posted around this time give or take a few months. (There's an updated version that was done right before the comic ended, but I'll do that later, don't want to spoil anything)Read it and laugh! Look at their color pallettes and realize your imagination is dead wrong! Beg Mr. Whipples for mercy! Or go to the archive link and download images yourself(just be careful not to go forward in time) https://web.archive.org/web/20060623054000/http://muertitos.comicgenesis.com/characters.html
Story 7 - Death Brews a Pale Ale
>>155036898>Tsunomi is supposed to be reddish/pinkishOh right because... Oni.Duh.
>>155036898KAPPARINE IS GREEN?!?It’s over
>>155036341Tsunomi is thin in the picture, never noticed that before.
>>155037004What'd you expect from a kappa? Blue? Red? Orange? Purple?
Thank Stan for Luci Mae
Story 8 - Introspective Interlude
Oh right, 2005
End of Story 8
Story 9 - A Timely Spoof
End of Story 9(I notice they kept her spider abdomen hidden off screen.)I'm taking a very short break, this next issue will be a doozy and possibly the last one of the night depending on how I feel. It's the longest issue of the entire comic and the third longest issue/story/arc Steph ever did (only behind the second and third arcs of GPCB). 64 pages this one will be. Buckle up buckaroos
>>155037353A majestic gag, this.
Story 10 - P.E.T.A
Outside of a couple short gags we haven't been to earth thus far, this ought to be interesting for ya'll
>>155037083>Cherrywel keeping the intoxication kink fans well fedGod bless
>>155037122I always forget Beelzebubba's wife is a smoking hot backhills hillbilly thiccums goddess
>>155037353I think the Nuclear Hands gag might be my favorite one in the entire comic. Very Mr. Burns
>>155037522>Dan Deeman has a frumpy dorky plump nerd mom who likes BTAS>Kimberly’s DAD is a hookerPerfectly balanced
>>155037632>Youko in evening wearMuh diiiiiick
>>155037284>page with a vore gag got linked on a vote forum and the comic broke all its hits records I wonder which site
>>155037732Just be careful you don’t end up in that Micheal Jackson Impostor Ward. I hear they’ve expanded recently >Flying Suit Reiko reference go
>>155037714Technically he's a fluffer. It's his job to get porn stars, shall we say, "camera-ready."
I love this one's multiple plots. (btw, I swear the mom in the prior page looks kinda familar, but Steph does have a couple bodytypes and faces she reuses. There's two backgrounders who have Reiko faces)
>>155037666>feeding fans of drinkingIt's, like, oxyironic.
Sorry for the delay pizza arrived
Here he is, the biggest douche in the universe
>>155037653>>155037668>Jackass>Kill Bill V1Oh yeah this is the 2000s
Golly gee who could this be a parody of?
Bustin makes me feel good
I kind of suspect there was originally going to be a full Honeo plot like the other two as the disguise scene seemed like setup, but Steph probably cut it when she realized how long this issue was getting
>>155038054>>155038073>>155038082I love how Egon's hair-tube gets more and more ridiculous with each strip.
A ton of aliens having visited earth is pretty consistent across the Stephverse. Creamy Beamy is obvious(not to mention that whole Foreigner Bar), but there's also the Mylarian invasion from FSR
Steph's comic output was crazy in 2005 and 2006 she was writing the first arc of Creamy Beamy at the same time she was doing this(see the file names)
Honestly on the subject this whole story's pacing feels closer to Creamy Beamy than Muertitos. 64 pages long is longer than Vs. Bean Paste and only a bit shorter than Vs. Gratuitous Bathing
Looks like the activity is falling off huh....
>>155038448>I sell pyramids and pyramid accessoriesGood ol reference I tell you h'what
>>155038316A truly feral output if you know anything at all about comic drafting process
>>155038526I actually paused to count, 211 Muertitos pages and 30 GPCB pages in 2005 for a total of 241 pages not counting other artwork or deviantart stuff. 2006 is even higher because GPCB was running the entire year
>>155038601>>1550385262006 was 270 Muertitos pages and 101 GPCB pages for a total of 371 comic pages that year not including stuff on other sites or on deviantart. It drops off quite a bit in the years after that Steph got infamously burned out
Alright that's the end of Story 10 and it feels like a good place to call it a night. We've got 10 more issues to go tomorrow so I hope to see you all then making comments and having fun. DO NOT LET THE THREAD SINK. Seriously, We barely squeezed by when the Reiko thread sank and I had to skip the guest art, here there is zero from for error. It needs to stay up until tomorrow.
If you're REALLY itching for more, and you haven't read it yet, go read the original 2001-2002 Muertitos. It's only 120 pages total, albeit it's not as good as the main run we're doing here.Old Muertitos: >>155021078Or hell, go back and read Flying Suit Reiko or Dystopia by the same author, which we have also storytimed.>Flying-Suit Reiko:>>154942625>>154951891>Dystopia:>>154979525MUERTITOS SHALL RESUME IN AROUND 15-16 HOURS. BE THERE OR BE FED TO THE OCTOPUS REX
>>155038615RIP
>>155038690>literally more than a page a dayNo wonder she burnt out.
>>155038726Wow, an old shoe!
emergency bump
>>155040722Again, same anon. Not a good sign
