In her appearance she touches Jax and makes him see a beautiful and trippy vision and it's implied he nearly abstracts in this moment, though his horrified reaction when he wakes up makes it clear this wasn't voluntary. We know that prolonged exposure to another abstraction can cause you to abstract yourself. Though Jax says he "did this to himself" there's no indication he even knows how his abstraction happened. Despite being told abstraction is what happens when you "give up" it's never explained how it happens or why, and we're never given any evidence that suggests it's something you can induce willingly.Ribbit has motive for wanting to abstract Jax. Not just out of anger or resentment, but because she could see he was clearly suffering and didn't want to be in the circus, and his downward spiral started entirely because he lost her in the first place.Ribbit killed Jax so they could be together in the digital void.
