>"If the premise of the show is, ‘only one of these guys can have the ring,’ as a fan watching it without being someone who was making it, I would be like, ‘They’re going to find a way to have two rings, or there’s going to be a big hug at the end and Hal’s going to say he’s going to retire to Florida.’ But every time we talked about that, we were like, ‘Hal Jordan ain’t retiring to Florida.’”

>"We are willing to acknowledge that a lot of people are going to be angry, that if we were watching this and not making it, that we too would be saying, 'I waited this long for another live-action version of Hal, having not gotten him since the Ryan Reynolds film, and then basically 50 minutes after getting me to fall in love with Kyle Chandler, you're killing him off? Fuck you.'"

>"It infuses the entire story with a lot of emotionality, especially if the audience understands that John and Hal were not in a good place at the time that Hal died. Traditionally, in comic books, these characters can't die. But if we're doing something that's supposed to be grounded, this is something that we have to do."

>"Our feeling is, let's see how you feel at the end of Episode 8, and if you still feel like it was exploitative or unnecessary, or that it wasn't exactly what had to happen in order for this story to get told, then we deserve it," Lindelof added. "But I think we're willing to absorb the boos from the audience in the first inning, as long as we still have a shot at winning the game."

Trust in the leaks reporting rewrites/reshoots, anon. Hal's coming back and the signs are there:

>the episode makes a point of establishing that multiple alien species can impersonate humans down to their DNA
>Hal is wearing the EXACT SAME OUTFIT from ten years prior
>The start of the episode emphasizes how Hal has worn the ring for so long that it has a mark on his finger, while the dead Hal on the bench lacks a mark on his finger

I'm reading this as Lindelof not being able to imagine Hal ever accepting Jon as his successor, probably because he needs his race baity bullshit even if it's at the cost of characters from a series he cares so little about that he wouldn't even use its proper name.

I fucking hate this trend and I hate Nolan for popularizing it. It's absurd. It strips all of what makes a fantastical story unique and reduces it to bland boring nonsense. Just write a different show if you don't want to write about intergalactic space police fighting alien warlords.

>>155094133

This is the same logic that made me stop buying monthlies. There was nothing I hated more than buying a mediocre issue for a miniseries, expecting the ending would pay off, only to discover the complete story was shit and I wasted $20 to $40.

Damon keeps getting work because he turns his stuff in on time and he isn't an insufferable dickhead to his bosses or his peers, he's just an insufferable dickhead to fans. It's the same situation behind Rian Johnson or Zack Snyder constantly getting work. The suits don't really care if your shit makes money or is loved by fans, they care about everything being done on a timely basis and you being polite and agreeable towards them so they don't have to stress out too much.

The reason(s) why you don't see writers of higher quality getting jobs has to do with the brain drain that the industry has been plagued with for decades as well as how socio-economic circumstances mean only rich kids can afford to be writers, nevermind how superior writers lack the social graces to play nice with their bosses and the work ethic to turn their shit in on time.

Max Landis didn't get blacklisted in Hollywood for being a creep and an abusive boyfriend because if that were just the case, he would have got canned long ago. His privilege and status protected him from losing his career but eventually that goodwill runs out when you aren't able to work professionally with other people or turn your work in on time. It's why Jonah Hill stopped getting work too: he's never done anything that's seriously crossed the line, but he's an asshole and nobody wants to work with an asshole.
>>
The truth is that the show we're getting is the result of several rewrites.

Zack Snyder envisioned a Green Lantern Corps as basically Lethal Weapon in space, with Hal as the wild, reckless one haunted by a traumatic past, and John as the by-the-books rookie carrying a chip on his shoulder.
We missed out on that because Snyder wanted it to be a movie, and the WB executives were still hesitant about greenlighting a high-budget Green Lantern film.
The script was revamped into a series by Greg Berlanti under Walter Hamada, with the story spanning multiple timelines, delving into the history of the human Green Lanterns, with a spotlight on the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, alongside Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, and more. The central mystery kicks off with the shocking assassination of Alan Scott. While flashbacks keep Alan present in earlier timelines, the focus in the later ones is unraveling the question of who killed him. Think Watchmen, but with Green Lanterns.
It didn’t happen because there was already plenty of space, aliens, and big battles, and the execs were worried about spending too much on a Green Lantern show. That’s when the idea of making it more grounded, like a True Detective-style series, started floating around among WB execs. Berlanti then decided to just scrap the show altogether.
This brings us to the current version of the show, where WB execs brought in the HBO Watchmen showrunner and combined the two scripts I mentioned. You’ve got Hal and John as buddy cops, a timeline-jumping mystery, and the assassination of a beloved hero to kick things off. Only this time, the hero is Hal, not Alan.

>It's the same situation behind Rian Johnson or Zack Snyder constantly getting work.

You can look at a sorta-similar situation with Chris Columbus for what I mean by social graces. He was on track to direct the 2000s Fantastic Four movie and by all means, he should have gotten the position: people like working with him and he turns his stuff in on time.

But he didn't get it because the culture of Hollywood at the time was "directors shouldn't be a fan of the source material" (which is code for "we want a director who will do what we want which is to appeal to people unfamiliar with the IP") and he kept vocalizing that he WAS a fan and would fight the execs to ensure comic accuracy, which was a big no-no. Tim Story ended up getting the role because he wasn't a big comics guy (at first) and directed nothing but dramas previously.
>>
Have Jon and Hal ever fought over a ring?
I don't mean butting heads or something like literally a set up where only one can be GL.
>>
>>155094577

>>

>>
>>155094635
Sorta. Now the expectation is "grab a director who CLAIMS to be a fan without checking to see if they actually know what they're talking about...and regardless, still meddle with their vision to hell and back".

The only reason why things shifted is because companies were banking on general audiences from both America and overseas, then shifted to getting Chinabux while also trying to adapt to social media being a major influence in movies having large drop offs after the first week's showing.

In all fairness, way too many fans will go "yes sirree, I totally believe you're a passionate fan of the comics because you said so" to whatever showrunner or director says on social media. This is how we're stuck with Feige and Gunn because we all collectively went "well, at least they're not like Sony or Fox!" only to get stuck with something worse than a normie in charge of geek adaptations: a fan who wants to push THEIR fanfic (at the cost of damaging the source material's perception like Josh from Eltingville) that prefers comics made from the 2000s onwards
>>
>>155094133

So if there's only one ring that means that John loses his at some point to Guy Gardner, doesn't it?
>>
>>155094837
Yes, that's exactly it.
Tom King gave an interview basically confirming that Earth can only have one Green Lantern, and the ring ended up going to another bland White guy instead of John Stewart, despite all the effort he put in. So now John has to deal with being passed over just for being… well, you know. At least, that’s the story they seem to be pushing.

Can't they just... timeshare the ring, or something? Each is the Lantern for 12 hours, which gives them 12 hours off duty to eat breakfast, sleep, shower, etc.
>>
>>155096848
Honestly, not a bad idea. The Lanterns always seem a bit overtaxed, feels like it might make some sense to have proper shifts. Fuck, it could even be used to cover why there's almost 10 fucking lanterns on Earth. We just see the stories where everyone has to be on duty as once and something something they can all use their rings at the same time because something something.

We could've had a decent Question or Martian Manhunter series ages ago if these executives got their heads out of their asses.

Wanting to protect white males from harm factually is not racism and factually is not evidence of having a problem with normal non-hostile non-white people.

You can have racial diversity and inspiring badass heroines without trashing beloved white male heroes.

People had ZERO problem with Sam Wilson until TF&TWS when he defended terrorist, I have been BEGGING for a War Machine movie since 2008.

Other way around. It means Guy loses his ring to John. The end of episode 1 is winter 2026, clearly after the Superman movie. So Guy has been running around with the ring for a while already.
So the timeline is probably: Hal is 2814 GL from 1996-2016. The 2016 Nebraska events get Hal and John shitcanned, and the ring goes to Guy. Guy is GL from 2016-2026. Something happens to Guy during Lanterns, and the ring goes to John. Leaving John as the "real" DCU GL going forward.

King already confirmed that Guy is wearing Hal's ring. Part of the story in Lanterns is how that happened. So one way or another, for John to become GL, Guy has to lose the ring.
I do hope they keep Fillion around as Guy. Maybe make him Warrior or give him another colored ring or some shit.

My take on King’s comment was Guy currently has two rings. Guy acquired his ring post 2016, and when Hal died there wasn’t a suitable bearer so it went to Guy for safekeeping. I could be totally wrong, I can see it going either way. We’ll just have to wait and see

If you are someone who thinks comics are for NERDS that clearly the entire core population of chads and stacy's totally fucking hate then yes, it is impossible. Seems like this show was specifically written to attract them. There are a thousand ways to depict a GL series on screen that do not need to have some kind of weird angry rivalry between asshole old white guy and cool hip young black guy who is smart and friendly. Then set it in a small rural town full of old racist rednecks who are running a gun militia.

Half the show is intentional bait designed to attract the same old political screeching schizos. The basic description of the show is intentional bait meant to attract the screeching schizos.

It's like the people who made Zootopia trying to pretend they are so shocked and surprised that it attracted furries. They only injected multiple furry fetishes into the film, including dedicating about 10 minutes to nude furries and tried to have ass shaking dancing sexy furries on screen. How could this have possibly happen!?!?!

Berlanti & Guggenhiem's Green Lantern movie script is best unproduced capeshit screenplay of all time. It's inspired by Emerald Dawn, Hal is perfectly written, the supporting cast is on point. That's retarded. it might work with Superman, Batman or Spider-Man, because they were many adaptations dealing with their origin stories, and most people already know them, but with less known characters like Green Lantern this is a very bad idea, because it requires some searching for external informations to enjoy the movie.

This isn't an argument. This is ass-backwards logic. It's equivalent to an executive saying making a pirate movie with naval warfare and exotic remote islands has too much overhead, so we can't have that, but we'll still make the pirate movie -- just with the captain talking to his accountant in his quarters or shopping at a market on land.

Do I have to say this again? Make a different show or movie if you don't want to make that show or movie. There are a dozen other DC properties HBO could have used for their down-to-earth off-brand Watchmen/Cop show.

I think the reason "Clayface" was fast tracked is because Gunn really wanted a standalone horror movie and had Swamp Thing but it got delaeyed bc James Mangold is tied up in Star Wars purgatory, so the "clayface" pitch was easy to slot in, in its place

>>
>So Tom King came up with the initial pitch, you were then recruited to flesh it out as showrunner — and then Tom and Damon served as your rhythm section, especially for the comic book elements. Is that an accurate summation of your collaboration?

Yeah, a little bit. Tom basically had the 30,000-foot view: “What if you did Green Lanterns True Detective-ish?” But it was less that they were less my rhythm section and more that we were a pretty equal band. We also had three other writers who were hugely influential in everything we did. Knowing that we wanted to do something earthbound, we set it in Rushville, Nebraska, and Tom actually has family [his grandmother] that’s from there. I’m also from [Omaha] Nebraska, and both my parents grew up in small towns. So I was like, “Oh, I know that,” and then we were off to the races right away.

...
[Hal’s death] was baked into what we were doing from the beginning, and it was just always part of what we were going to be doing.

>It’s rare to work with a co-studio head who is also a writer-director himself. So how would you describe your dynamic with James Gunn?

It was great in that you know he knows writing and what it’s like to be on a set. He just understands it all. At the very beginning, James was off doing Superman. He was in the thick of it, and he was in the trenches. So while he would come in for high-level stuff, there was a fair amount of trust that he was gracious enough to give us as he was making his gigantic movie.

>John Stewart is going to be in the Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, but James never asked you to set the stage by leaving him at a bus stop in Omaha?

(Laughs.) No, we were really lucky in that way. We knew we were putting John on his feet, but there wasn’t an actual story point that we had to land him on. In one way, it makes it scarier because it could be anything, but at the same time, we weren’t shoehorned into anything at all.

>I know Lanterns is not based on any particular Green Lantern comic, but the conversation around adaptations and source material has been pretty contentious this year. You guys have dealt with bellyaching about creative license, as has The Odyssey and Resident Evil. Why do you think people are so resistant to change when it’s been proven time and time again that no one actually wants more of the same?

It’s a really good question. It’s probably something that’s been with them their whole lives. If you’re a Green Lantern fan, you’ve probably been a Green Lantern fan since you were a kid. They just hold it a little closer and a little more dear. I think it comes from a really good place, which is, I really care about this thing. Don’t mess it up.

This is just our story for a minute. Five or ten years from now, someone else is going to be the steward of it. If people see that those of us making Lanterns right now really care about it and are taking good care of it, then hopefully they’ll trust us a little bit. But it really is this feeling of, I care about this thing. Don’t break it. And I get that. They’re passionate about it.

>Lanterns may have just premiered, but Mundy is already mapping out a potential season two story with Halt and Catch Fire co-creator Christopher Cantwell. (Lindelof and King are busy leading their respective new series, The Chain and Mister Miracle.) While Lanterns season two has not been officially green-lit, Mundy and Cantwell are getting their ducks in a row should the audience reception and viewership numbers match the critics’ enthusiasm for the down-to-earth take on Green Lanterns.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/lanterns-season-2-james-gunn-1236676414/

So basically, all James Gunn needed from "Lanterns" was a mini series prequel launching John Stewart.

A True Detective style Batman show riffing off of Morrison's Barbatos/Dr. Hurt stuff would be cool. The past era story is more built around The Cult miniseries, and the present day stuff is The Black Book. And you stitch together The Black Gove and Zur En Arhh. I dunno, I'm not smart enough to parcel it all together nicely.

>And you would be bitching and whining when Vic wouldn’t wear the mask 24/7 and call it a True Detective ripoff
People would be more forgiving if they made the masked scenes standout. And it would be either way, but it'd be much more compatible with the idea than Green Lantern is.

>>
>>155109449
Even if you're talking about the age of the actor, that's a matter of casting. Just like you can cast older actors in much younger roles like Nathan Fillion or Poorna Jagannathan, you can cast a younger actor for an older role. You're doing past-present-future narrative anyway, pick a guy in the "present" age and use makeup both ways. RDJ Ruffalo, Renner, were all in their 40s in their debuts, what's wrong with a 50ish cop (like Somerset in Seven)? Or at least the actor being that age if him being 60ish is so important?

You can say that when the Question is essentially a C-list character.

>BUT GREEN ARROW
Is a character who actually has managed to maintain a title for lengthy periods of time. WB also had developed a movie around him for years before the CW show materialised.

>People would be more forgiving
They would not. It’s well established at this point that “fans” will bitch about everything and pretend it’s the end of the world whenever something is even slightly different from comics. People make their minds before seeing a single frame over behind the scenes production stills or casting announcements and then spend months whining about it.

Take Arrowverse for example. People were constantly complaining about how it wasn’t enough like comic books, while ignoring all the limitations and necessities of weekly television production. And yes, eventually people did warm up to it for couple of years but that was preceded with nonstop whining and mockery.

Similarly this website was busy complaining about the Penguin as being terrible because they changed his name to being Oz Cobb and bitched for weeks about DEI sidekicks and Sofia being girlboss propaganda until the show became a smash hit and their culture war complaints started to be too stupid to parrot.
>>
>>155109449
>By itself this doesn't have to mean the older veteran ages out

Yes it is. You don’t cast someone who’s in their 50s or 60s as a co-lead unless it’s a one season/movie deal. Especially if they’re a relative big name, like how Tom Cruise was a popular casting choice for Hal when it was still a movie project.
>>
>>155109606
You mean for if it's going to be a long-running series? I guess not everyone can be Danny Devito. I was under the impression it was just this one season and then they'd be in the movies. Was Samuel L. Jackson young or a small name back at his MCU start?

Honestly, I don't know where you get this notion or why you're insisting it's a rule that everyone else is dumb for not knowing. Even if you're ignorant of the many counter-examples (like a whole ensemble of Golden Girls), wasn't the "actor age" thing already made moot by the logic in >>155109508 ?

>what about SLJ
Strictly plays a supporting character and (mostly) does glorified cameos without any action scenes
>what about Golden Girls
The entire premise of that show was that everyone was super old (by 80 standards), dumbass. Also it was a sitcom.
>Duurrr what about these people in their 40s????
People in their 40s are different from being in your late 50s, early 60s. Especially if the role requires special effects and action. If you didn’t notice they already started to prepare passing the Hawkeye baton to Kate Bishop years before Renner’s accident, precisely because he was becoming old for the role.

Robert Englund for example had to retire from playing Freddy specifically because the role was becoming too demanding to him physically when he was in his mid-50s.

>>155109714
And he didn’t get his show from nowhere, he got it based on his performance and the character was also radically changed in Suicide Squad. If they did similar changes to Question this board would make countless rage threads about it.

>like how Tom Cruise was a popular casting choice for Hal when it was still a movie project.

Supposedly Cruise was offered the role of Hal when the buddy cop movie pitch with John was still being developed and the reason he turned it down was because: Hal was set up to be an older guy who die or retires by the end of it

WB wanted to move on from Hal long before King & Lindelof
Snyder was ultimately going to settle on John

Blame Ryan Reynolds. Once his movie flopped and he would not stop making fun of it, WB gave up on Hal. And they had comics where he died and a popular cartoon where John was liked as GL.

This has been WB's endgame for years

Kyle Chandler is really great as Hal.

Its up to you if you think its even possible to do a well done "hal jordan dies" storyline.

Its waaay too early to say it was done poorly; it all up to you whether you think it should be attempted period

first of all, I don't like the grounded story, the hook of the show is the mystery but "grounded" is not what I want from Green Lantern. DC has plenty of detectives that need screentime and Green Lantern isn't one of them.

second, I don't have a problem with John taking over from Hal, what I don't like is that they're dropping Hal by killing him. turning him into Parallax would at least serve a purpose storywise but just killing him is a waste of the character and his potential. I think they know this but they couldn't or weren't allowed to come up with a good way to adapt Emerald twilight without brushing up against their "grounded" setting, so fuck em.

>People in their 40s are different from being in your late 50s, early 60s
Oh good, so cast one of those people in their 40s to play an older person, as has been said. You keep moving the goalposts "oh I mean a lead or co-lead" "oh obviously in an action role" but your coming from a flawed premise in the first place, even if hollywood isn't obviously capable of casting even an 80 year old as an action lead (Star Trek Picard), much less a 50-something as is all is demanded by the "veteran cop" trope. Especially with a superhero like Green Lantern, who will punch but is mostly flying and creating constructs, not sprinting and leaping and such, and especially for the "older mentor figure" Lantern who will have more of a support or ensemble role, maybe even semi-retired, once his protégé is trained. If Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner can stay around so could Hal.

Where this started was you saying that
>older veteran Hal and young rookie John team up, with the clear implication being that Hal was not going to be around for long because the type of actor would have to be in his late 50s
but there are still plenty of examples of actors continuing to do multiple action movies past their 50s, and again, you do not have to cast a 60 year old for the role. You insist there's obviously a clear implication but there's really not, and even if there was, that's not the same as an actual requirement.

Also this is a tv show with a lower budget, that can be used to justify lack of actual Green Lantern powers or space adventures due to being "grounded", I think they can manage Hal being "too old for this shit" in the physical department.

Then in a movie with actual sfx budget he's got a magic ring to sell a lackluster punch, taking a blow, or having him move fast without real running. Especially as he wouldn't be the lead.
>>
>>155109599
>You can say that when the Question is essentially a C-list character.
So was Green Arrow. The only difference was producers pushing for him, between his inclusion in Smallville and the Super Max script that never panned out.

You're really going to sit there and act like there weren't fans who enjoyed it from the beginning? Might as well agree to disagree, fan backlash a moot point anyway.

wtf even is this show. Hal doesn't even need to be in a show with Stewart as the lead, unless you want some cameos or later storylines. Kyle Rayner is actually the better foil. And the whole setup on the show is wrong and obviously just an excuse to fill the show runner's very specific brand of social commentary.

Here's your show if you want some actual social commentary and character study while being true to comics and keeping the budget down (even if I don't think a Green Lantern story of all things should be a live action low budget affair, but this is how I'd do it)
>Stewart is an ex-military unc, not a young guy
>after a space mission Stewart returns to Earth, specifically his home town
>discouraged that despite his immense powers and being able to help save worlds, he hasn't really been able to impact his low income black majority home town
>his lack of vision and creativity, possibly stemming from his strict military experience, extends to both how he only uses his powers in a basic straightforward pew pew way and in how he does know how he can use his power to truly change and uplift his town
>Kyle Rayner is assigned to help Stewart be more creative with his powers
>Rayner has fantastical uses of his powers but that doesn't mean he understands Stewart's streets or how to help any more than Stewart does
>as Stewart grows with the usage of his powers, and learns to loosen up, he also learns more deeply about the people in his hometown and their issues (he's really just been a visitor for years since he's gone so much for Lantern duties) and is more inspired about how to lead them and inspire them by example
>>
Its interesting how Barry Allen doesn't invoke this kind of intense loyalty from comic fans. Most fans are content with Wally inheriting the mantle, and are cool with Wally being the new movie/TV focus.

But *it has to be* Hal when it comes to Green Lantern. Even though, there's been 40 years of stories of other people being the Lantern. It can't be John, it can't be Kyle, it can't be Guy.

I liked Barry but he was just never interesting, when he died in Crisis it made him a Saint of the Silver Age and retconned him into being the guy everybody liked because he was so nice. Wally had a long journey to find his way and it mostly worked, because he knew and loved Barry.

Hal is just a better FIT for the job of space cop. He's a 'Right Stuff' test pilot and a man of action who actually isn't as foolhardy as he's been trope'd. He wants to go to space and he wants to see it all. Stewart's been through so many softboots his character is hard to pin down at this point but there was never a version where I felt he WANTED the job. Guy does, but he's a dick. Kyle just exists as a character who is everything Hal Jordan isn't and Marz/Dooley just thought they'd figure something out along the way.

>Oh good, so cast one of those people in their 40s to play an older person

But they cast a 60 year old Kyle Chandler instead. Because WB has always wanted to do old veteran trains a rookie partner dynamic and story. Keep crying about how it hurts your feelings but it changes nothing about the realities of how casting generally works. They do not like casting people in their 50s or up as leads in most things, especially if it requires action and special effects because they know that the older you get the more prone to injury you are and extended recovery times on one of your main characters fuck up your entire production schedule.

>If Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner can stay around so could Hal.
Except he can’t because Guy and Hal function in completely different ways. Guy’s job is being the dickhead in a team setting. That means he doesn’t need to do much actual action. Hal meanwhile is an action guy jumping headfirst into the fire and you can’t use him in that capacity the older the actor gets. Even in terms of narrative he stops having a function once John stops being a rookie he trains as Hal isn’t suited to being behind the desk type older supporting authority figure.
>baaawwww but I want Hal and John together as equals
And you’re never going to get that because narratively it’s a dead end. You can’t build a franchise around that. Buddy cops only works when the two are butting heads. Why do you think Lethal Weapon works? Because Riggs is a younger nutjob and Murtaugh is the old guy who’s too old for that shit.

>but there are still plenty of examples of actors continuing to do multiple action movies past their 50s
And most of the time when they do they have shoot around them. Look at how much they have to cut around Liam Neeson in action scenes because basically every time he’s running or doing something more physical it’s a stunt double. Not everyone is Tom Cruise and even he’s getting too old for his own stunts.

No, the difference is that Green Arrow has more proven track record as a character with a fanbase and enough of a unique gimmick. That is why Oliver keeps being used in media because people see the appeal. Question is just a guy without a face doing detective shit.

You can’t even get comic fans to agree which version of the Question is the “real one” because the weirdo conspiracy theory guy is actually from one fucking cartoon and that took lots of liberties and has little resemblance to the Denny O’neill version that is considered the most iconic one in the comics but that one is basically too high concept for television.

Also, X-Files was big in the 90s due to UFO and conspiracy theory shit filling the media space after the cold war ended. It’s a franchise that now basically relies on nostalgia. It is 2026 now. Weirdo conspiracy guy isn’t harmless, quaint and charming innocent fun for entertainment anymore when the online space is full of nutjobs who actually go and do violence based on the things they read online. Hence why the Mulder/Scully revival show just couldn’t work anymore on the same old formula and ratings went down more than half in the second season. So Question riffing on Fox Mulder isn’t going to appeal the way it did in 00s.

It doesn't, I haven't even watched the show and I don't much care to (and not because of any crime I feel like they committed in any of this). I just hated your attitude I'd summarize as "of course it absolutely had to be this way. And everyone knew that going in. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool."

You're coming up with post-hoc justifications on the story and casting decisions to put others down, not actually spitting facts. No point trying to get through to you on this anymore though, it's obvious you're too invested and emotional, despite trying to paint me to be the one like that.

Maybe now, but back then when the push began? I'm not buying it.

>You can’t even get comic fans to agree which version of the Question is the “real one”

At least from what I've seen, the O'Neil version is considered the standard while DCAU Question is a respected outlier, but that's just what I've seen.

>but that one is basically too high concept for television.
And True Detective wasn't? You had a point with the track record, but your logic is becoming way too circular.

>Question can't be adapted because he's not popular enough and has no hook
>They can't use the DCAU version as a basis because he's too scawwy for modern audiences
>They can't adapt O'Neil, which would be perfect for the twists and turns prestige TV audiences devour, because it's too "high concept"
I mean, we both know the real reason is that there's no executive/writer/producer/ect. in the ranks who's a Question fan. No reason to make excuses about it.

>>155122248
NTA, but that would be more of a "gotcha" if they didn't put so much more importance on that specific ring, and Guy's using a completely different one. Obviously it's part of the mystery, but the conclusion of Guy having Hal's ring isn't that obvious.
>>
>>155122596
>And True Detective wasn't?

No. It was a basic cold case cop show with some gimmicks and style that got people online hyped up and think it was way more highbrow and supernatural than it actually was.

And I didn’t say DCAU was scary, I said conspiracy theories stopped being a source of entertaining nonsense years ago. Denny’s Zen identity crisis Question where people use dead babies as a way to beg for change and then dump the corpse to the trash when they don’t get any would not make for good prestige television or mainstream procedural. It’s way too esoteric and ethereal and also at times disgusting. They would have to make a lot of changes that purists would then bitch about because NOT MUH VIC

Martian Manhunter is too broken just due to his telepathy to work as a TV show unless you depowered him and then we’d be off to the races again with you whining it might as well be another character then.
