Previous societies tried to create various kinds of social contracts to tie everyone together (and the smarter ones with power realized the purpose of it), with the answer being inequality is inescapable, but stability requires buy in from everyone, and the powerful need to pay a price for it (one they can easily stomach if they don't get too stupid).The simple truth is the rich and powerful can't really do anything either, because the way things are is why they're rich and powerful. You can do everything with that position in society except get rid of it. How do you reorder a society that only hates you and wants to by in your position? How long does it take any revolutionary before their answer is just some form of "I need a monopoly on power to force people to act good?"
