I hear about these acclaimed non-cape comics, but does anyone here ever read them?

They do exist, but they’re drowned out by seas of knockoff capes and insufferably pretentious “art pieces” drawn by permanent schoolchildren.
>>
>>155100635
All I want are some other non-big2 epics in the vein of Cerebus and Bone. Trying to fill in my indie shelf.
>>
>>155100635
I read loads of comics. Just read pic related. It was great; dunno if it's "acclaimed".
>>
>>155100837
Have you checked out Finder?
>>155101437
I'm talking about the Anglo stuff more than anything. It seem like only critics read them.

Examples?

>Finder debuted in '96
I am in my 40s and never heard of it. Setting sounds neat, kinda getting Moebius vibes. Thanks, will check it out.
>>
>>155102366
If you like Moebius, one of my favorite recent comic artists is Linnea Sterte. She definitely has a Moebius influence.
>>
>>155100635
We exist but our tastes are largely scattered so much we can't have a thread without a storytime to get people up to speed (and sometimes that might not even work)
>>
>>155100635
Is that a braille comic?
>>
>>155102906
True. I don't storytime, but I try to spread the word about any comic I like or think others might like.
>>
>>155100635
Hunting Accident was storytimed pretty early into covid. I thought it was so good that I asked my mom to buy and read it for my birthday so I'd have someone to talk about it with. God I loved 2020

>God I loved 2020
It was a bad year for me.
>>
>>
>>155100635
no, rco is dead
>>155102333
I am not okay with this is an obvious one.
>>
>>155105059
>rco is dead
>having to rely on rco to begin with
>>
>>155105059
I don't think a lot of these comics ended up on rco.
>>
>>155102995
looks like it
>>
>>155105725
This.
That's some newfag shit.
>>
>>155101645
I read absurdly pretentious Anglo comics as well. Some of them are dull, but I liked pic related.
>>
>>155100635
I have but they're not very good.
>>
>>155104976
This looks real cool

I used to see people talking about these, so maybe it's just that the people left don't read comics.
>>
these look boring

I normally don't post, but Anya's Ghost is a great single volume non-cape comic. It's a coming of age spooky story with IMO cute art.
>>
>>155119626
Everyone here has read it
It's one of those few comics that has been storytimed so oftenly even the cartoon side knows what it is

Other good ones:

Bikini Cowboy by Fresher Luke

Seconds by Bryan Lee O'Malley (2014), it's another short single volume and I like the faerie tale aspect of it.

Elfquest, which spans a lot of thick graphic novel volumes. I quite enjoyed a lot of these, especially the early arcs which clearly had a strong plot. Despite being from the late 70s and 80s, it's fantasy so it ages well.

Bone by Jeff Smith

"This One Summer" (2014) is more young slice of life but I enjoy it.

Empowered (a comic series) by Adam Warran, though it is cape-involved, it's a bit of inversion of the cape-genre that manages to get surprisingly involved and deep, especially by Volume 4.

Halloween is just around the corner which is prime time for a revisit.
>>
>>155113131
I've been thinking of read The Sculptor. Can you tell me a bit about it?
>>
>>155119626
>>155119709
I'm not a fan of these. Though nice to look at, I find them pretty vapid.
I prefer the pretentious shit.
>>
>>155102366
>>155101645
I just started reading Finder as well. It's definitely worth checking out.
>>
>>155120336
Nice. It's good to see people enjoying something.
>>
>>155119709
>Despite being from what is arguably the peak era of comics, it's fantasy so it ages well.
