Being a Steven Universe fan when it was still airing was seeing stuff like this and getting excited because you had no idea at the time that after season 3 the effort and work put in towards the alien side of the show would be taking a sharp decline and fanart and fanfiction would end up being objectively superior.

There's real potential horror to be explored with the idea that the gems are sapient humanoid aliens that don't look quite right to the human eye, and whose real motives and thought processes couldn't be pinned down in human terms because they evolved completely separately and aren't even an organic species. I like this as a neat little thing going into how superficially human the Gems are, and how even after thousands of years on Earth they just barely manage to blend in. Partly because Gem's are poor at learning new things, and the other half being they mostly only did so due to Rose and now Steven.
