>Destin Daniel Cretton would originally direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. When Marvel redeveloped it into Avengers: Doomsday, he dropped out. Kevin Feige then offered him Spider-Man: Brand New Day and put him in contact with Sony execs Amy Pascal and Tom Rothman, who were searching for a new director after Jon Watts from the Home trilogy declined to return, and Cretton’s pitch landed him the job.>Other directors in consideration were Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Uncharted), Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale), Justin Lin (Fast and Furious, Star Trek Beyond), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) and Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life, Batgirl).>Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers decided early on that mind control would be part of the plot. Their original choice for the villain was the Chameleon, but he was unavailable due to his appearance in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter. They cycled through several other villains like Mister Negative and the Spider Queen before landing on Jean Grey.>Tom Holland produced the film and compiled a document with everything fans had been asking for, such as a practical suit and street-level stakes, to serve as a creative guideline. He was also adamant about having a complete draft before production started to avoid the post-production issues of the Home trilogy.>Zendaya recruited Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes to polish the Peter/MJ scenes. She also suggested that MJ get along well with the Punisher and be fascinated by his lifestyle rather than dislike him as in the original script.>Holland and Jon Bernthal are longtime friends and helped each other through their Marvel auditions. Bernthal refuses to portray the Punisher in PG-13 projects, but made an exception for Holland. Due to their natural chemistry, Peter and Frank’s dynamic changed from them hating each other to them having a brotherly rivalry.
>Holland’s first pitch for the plot was rejected for being too similar to Captain America: Brave New World. Spider-Man fighting the Hulk was moved from the third act to the midpoint for the same reason.>Before Bill Metzger, the director of the Department of Damage Control was a woman based on an obscure X-Men villain, the Leper Queen. Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Carrie Coon and Sarah Snook all turned down the role before it was rewritten into Metzger.>The Rhino, 8-Ball, Big Wheel, Paste Pot Pete and the Enforcers are among the villains that were cut from the opening montage. They developed 50 recreations of classic comics covers, but only used five.>The original ending featured Jean controlling all the supervillains Spider-Man had arrested in the opening montage into attacking him simultaneously, but it was ultimately scaled down to Spider-Man fighting DODC guards and the Hand.>The Hand had a bigger role in an earlier draft, with Silver Samurai as their leader. Cretton liked the concept of Spider-Man fighting an army of ninjas too much and kept them in as DODC enforcers.>Cretton wanted to introduce the Bar with No Name where low-level supervillains hang out, but it didn’t fit the narrative.>There were plans for a nightmare sequence where Peter turns into Man-Spider, but it was deemed too scary for kids.>In addition to Punisher, Hulk and Black Widow, Captain America and Shang-Chi were also considered to appear in the movie.>Savage Hulk would originally be grey, but the studio decided it would confuse audiences. They considered several different interpretations, some in which he walks on all four and is constantly twitching from pure rage, some in which he is eloquent and vengeful after years imprisoned in Banner’s mind, before landing on the final version.>A deleted segment of the fight has a water main breaking, and Hulk attempting to drown Spider-Man by holding him underwater, which the studio cut as it made the Hulk too villainous.
>Spider-Man would originally knock out the Hulk with the Shocker gauntlet, but test-audiences thought he was defeated too easily, so they reshot it to the Hulk easily destroying the gauntlet, and attempting to kill himself after Spider-Man manages to calm him down by reminding him of their friendship.>Rosario Dawson filmed a scene as Claire Temple that was deleted from the final cut. She now runs an underground clinic for vigilantes, and Spider-Man visits her to get patched up after his fight with the Scorpion.>Another deleted scene features the doctor operating on Spider-Man after he is shot choosing to keep his mask on to preserve his secret identity. Meanwhile, the Punisher clashes with the police officers outside.>A deleted running gag featured spiders being drawn to Peter following his mutation, and following him wherever he went.>The ending scenes of MJ sitting on the school rooftop and holding the necklace Peter gave her, and Ned instinctively doing his and Peter’s handshake were filmed in a deliberately ambiguous way. MJ and Ned could have regained their memories, or MJ may simply be developing feelings for Peter all over again, while Ned connected the dots after MJ called Spider-Man “Peter” earlier.>The flashback scene of Jean and her sister Sara in the park was added in reshoots to further establish their bond. Despite Sara being the older sister, her actress is 15 while Sadie Sink is 23.>Sink revealed that there was a cut where Jean verbalizes that V-Max was just the faded sticker in the air vent of the cell where Sara died and that her actions were for nothing, but it was ultimately decided Jean’s heartbroken expression after seeing the sticker and realizing the truth got the point across well enough.>Holland revealed that they tested an alternative ending where MJ and Ned regain their memories at the studio's behest in case audiences reacted negatively to the ambiguous version they favored, but that version actually tested higher.
>>155112042>A deleted running gag featured spiders being drawn to Peter following his mutation, and following him wherever he went.It all comes full circle.
>>155112034Spider-Man vs a sort of ad hoc mind controlled Sinister Six would have been a better move than the Ninjas to be honest
>>155112621
>>155112621Sony won't let Marvel do Sinister Six. For some reason Sony views Sinister Six as there avengers.
COME ON COME ON COME ON COME ON COME OOOOONNN
>>155112027>but he was unavailable due to his appearance in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter.jesus christ these sony retards keep ruining all the potentiali'm not an mcu shill, but damn let the people use the damn characters
>>155112034>Holland’s first pitch for the plot was rejected for being too similar to Captain America: Brave New World. Spider-Man fighting the Hulk was moved from the third act to the midpoint for the same reason.I like holland but that pitch sounds like crap>EnforcersI hope they are in the next Spidey movie>ending featured Jean controlling all the supervillains Spider-Man had arrested in the opening montage into attacking him simultaneouslyI feel robbed. Like yeah spider man fighting the hand ninjas was cool but man could have gotten Spider-man 20 something c lister along with the ninjas.>>155112027>Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life, Batgirl)I don't know who crappy that bat girl movie was gonna be but I liked Bad Boys 3&4 so that could have been interesting.>Their original choice for the villain was the Chameleon, but he was unavailable due to his appearance in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter. They cycled through several other villains like Mister Negative and the Spider Queen before landing on Jean Grey.Poor carrion, not even in consideration, shameOkay so with Cretton stuck with Naruto(man, wish he was doing a bleach movie instead) who do you guys want to direct the next flick if he is still unavailable? Also what villains do you guys want? Personally I want hobgoblin, black cat, and jack o lantern with the movie set during Halloween.
>>155112027>Their original choice for the villain was the Chameleon, but he was unavailable due to his appearance in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter. No one really watched Kraven the Hunter, did the really thought it was worth making major character unavaiable for Spider-Man movies for a solo Kraven movie out of all things? Why not just move Kraven movie to MCU?
>>155112034>There were plans for a nightmare sequence where Peter turns into Man-Spider, but it was deemed too scary for kids.Boo, they probably would have thought it was cool>Cretton wanted to introduce the Bar with No Name where low-level supervillains hang out, but it didn’t fit the narrative.I thought they filmed that scene?>Savage Hulk would originally be grey, but the studio decided it would confuse audiences. They considered several different interpretations, some in which he walks on all four and is constantly twitching from pure rage, some in which he is eloquent and vengeful after years imprisoned in Banner’s mind, before landing on the final version. So he was grey in one of the trailers and my friend wasn't crazy?>A deleted segment of the fight has a water main breaking, and Hulk attempting to drown Spider-Man by holding him underwater, which the studio cut as it made the Hulk too villainous.Lame So what about the deli deleted scene? Why did that get cut?
>>155112621>>155115795The director is asianDo you think he was just gonna cut out the ninja sequence?
>>155115998No, I like ninjas too. I just would have liked to have seen boomerang, tarantula, and tombstone along with the ninjas and the DODC goons in the prison.
>>155116075EhThat scene wouldn't have worked with non-ninjasIt felt almost out of place with the stylized visuals
>>155116075Seems too impractical. Major villains would also require dedicated casting, and it's too much of a hassle to go through a major casting process for a few one-scene wonders. Whereas ninjas are mostly just one-offs so you can hire anyone for the role.
>>155112027Tom Holland is pretty based judging by this.
>>155112034> Paste Pot PeteWe need to see PPP on the big screen.
>>155116507Tarantula basically functions as a ninja and boomerang was played by one of the ninjas in the film I think.>>155116664>Major villains would also require dedicated casting, and it's too much of a hassle to go through a major casting process for a few one-scene wondersThey already had a decent tombstone casting and Tarantula and boomerang don’t really need that many lines.
>>155115795>hobgoblinNeeds a goblin to steal tech from>black catI mean she has to be in the next one, right? Unless they're saving her for MilesUckThink you need a bigger villain though than Jack o' lantern
>>155116902>Needs a goblin to steal tech fromJust say pieces of the glider and the mask were left in holland's universe and that the damage control got some blood from Norman to make Goblin roids>I mean she has to be in the next one, right? Unless they're saving her for MilesI hope they are saving her for Holland's spider-man. I don't hate miles but I don't care for him either.>Think you need a bigger villain though than Jack o' lanternWell yeah, black cat and hobgoblin. Have Jack o lantern be like a tease before the main event(hobgoblin) comes in swinging.
