Thomas Jane’s punisher was absolute kino. It bothers me how wasted it was

>no sequel even though it’s the cheapest possible superhero movie where he’s just a guy who shoots and stabs criminals
>no crossover with Raimi Spider-Man, or daredevil
>not brought back by Ryan Reynolds to get grizzled old man eyepatch punisher when he’d fit the vibe perfectly

Not bringing him back for Deadpool and Wolverine feels like the biggest missed opportunity because even people who aren’t fans of the 2004 film at least would recognise he is the punisher

Frankly, I’m not a big fan of Jon Bernthal as the punisher. I think part of it is his personal interpretation of the character.

Bernthal’s punisher is constantly screaming like an animal, his anger actively bursting out of him as he unleashes his rage on criminals.

While Thomas Jane’s punisher is less overtly brutal (guessing part of keeping th age rating down) he still just casualty kills criminals in various ways. Except he doesn’t even react or flinch over it. For him it’s no different than turning off a light.

I much prefer that kind of punisher, where yes he is divine by rage and purpose but his actual demeanour most of the time is stoic and unemotional. Frank Castle is dead and the punisher is just what’s left puppeting his body to wage his never ending war

I also felt the 2004 film just nailed a fairly good balance between elevated comic book reality where a superhuman Russian can punch through walls, but it’s still just a guy you can shoot and kill.punisher can occasionally make quips etc.

Whereas Punisher Warzone felt weirdly both super grim and super comical. And Bernthal’s punisher weirdly only ever resonated with me in daredevil season 2.

Him in his own show was trash. His recent mini movie thjng was trash.

I haven’t seen Spider-Man brand new day yet so maybe Bernthal’s punisher has much improved though
>>
He was in the video game at least

it was bad
stop being a reactionary and trying to pretend bad thing was good
>>
>>155119211
He had a cameo in Spider-Man 2 technically
>>
>>155119355
This. Critics are objectively right. Leave film to the experts chud
>>
>>155119339
I like how the game managed to actually be within a wider marvel universe presumably because the gaming rights work differently.

Was certainly dun to go from shooting up a crack den to visiting Stark industries

Also I think Jigsaw ends up using a stolen iron man suit, and daredevil shows up to try and be your lawyer

I like how this movie created a whole name, background and personality for a random mook in the comics that only appears in a few panels.
>>

>critics wrong
>therefore we should defend the honor of a boring movie
just believing the opposite of what critics think does not make you better than them
>>
>>155119357
I thought this too but it turns out it was a myth. There was just an extra who looked a lot like Thomas Jane
>>
>>155119480
>defend honor

It’s a movie. What kind of incel are you that you think in terms of “defending the honor of a comic book movie” lmao
>>
>>155119501
It wasn't Thomas Jane? I thought it was him but stated not to be the Punisher
>>
>>155119462
I weirdly liked the whole villain cast. Just a bunch of piece of shit criminals that felt like a random punisher arc.

Also Frank blackmailing that guy with pics proving he’s gay felt imaginative instead of just shooting everyone. Count of Monte Cristo style revenge scheme to destroy Howard Saints whole life
>>
>>155119211
I like the movie, but it wastes entirely too much time on the origin. Weirdly, the Dolph Lundgren movie handles that much better.

Nah it wasn’t Thomas Jane, nor was it Jane’s punisher stunt double Tom McComas

This is one of those interesting rumours that stuck because he looks so much like Jane and his outfit, the dark clothes looks punisher esque. Along with the Spider-Man 2 movie beinf made around the same time as the punisher movie

If you actually try to find any source for this claim though it doesn’t have one. I heard Raimi said it in the Spider-Man 2 commentary but he doesn’t, he doesn’t mention punisher or Thomas Jane at all

It just seems like one of those things where somebody added it to the trivia section of IMDB back in 2004, and people just believed it because the extra genuinely does look like Thomas Jane, wears punisher style clothes, and actively turns to look at Mary Jane in a way that draws attention to him a way most extras are told to not do

This is a higher quality version from the blu ray and it’s a lot clearer it’s just some guy who looks like Thomas Jane from a distance, but not up close
>>
>>155119561
How does Lundgren handle playing an American with the accent? Or do they just have a punisher who sounds European?

this bad movie was good, actually, because i watched it as a child and cant stand people to not like this thing i liked

I see. This Punisher is still part of the same universe as Tobey's Spider-Man for me
>>
>>155119625
He made an effort to be less Swedish. It's not perfect, but it was a staggering leap forward from He-Man. Better than Arnold and Van Damme anyway.

When I was a kid I wanted a crossover between Jane-Punisher, Maguire Spider-Man and Affleck daredevil.

Since we are talking dead comic book movie ideas. Here’s a deleted alternate ending for Blade that was meant to be a cameo for Morbius, not tease him being a character in Blade 2 (as a villain or partner?)

https://youtu.be/Ldhg1e8hzww

Story wise because Whistler is clearly meant to have died in Blade 1 I figure he was gonna be a kind of new whistler but also he has powers. Then they just decided to bring whistler back to life for some reason.

Maybe they felt it would be too confusing that both Blade and Morbius are these partial vampires but with very different powers and appearances

I’m sorry if you’re genuinely autistic, and don’t realise you don’t HAVE to just agree with critic consensus like a walking chatGPT.

It’s also just a retarded way to view art or cinema.

The Shining had very mixed reviews upon release. Critics essentially saying it was a dud and Kubrick had lost his touch.

Ten years later it was regarded as a masterpiece.

Who was the contrarian exactly in that scenario? The people who disagreed with the critics, or the audience, or what?

Are people allowed to have differing opinions on film, or you think it’s a matter of needing to look up a rotten tomatoes score to base your opinion on it?
>>
>>155119779
Don’t bother engaging with him dude. He’s obviously a troll or retarded. i have her to see anybody complaining about “contrarians” who isn’t retarded or trolling. Same as “media literacy” people
>>
>>155119211
Jane doesn't burn local and isn't a real one, so Bernthal probably wouldn't let that happen.
>>
>>155119735
There was almost a crossover between Spider-Man and the original X-Men but I forgot in which movie either was supposed to show up. An early MCU would've been crazy though.
Wasn't Morbius supposed to be the villain for Blade 2? I heard he got scrapped because New Line didn't own the rights to Morbius

>>155120027
Well, keep in mind this movie was made in the late 80's. Frank was still Punisher Classic back then. If anything, the movie invented Frank's modern look. Though, I do remember something about a guy a couple years ago who was doing a fan edit that digitally added in the skull on his shirt.

neck armor does exist as an option for body armor, alongside groin and shoulder armor that wouldnt look out of place from a space marine
but the reduced mobility and comfort means that its only really used by people who dont expect to move a lot while also attracting a lot of attention like the guy in charge of using the humvees MG

>>
>>155120511
at least in the context of the real world add-on armor, thats good enough since fragmentation is the main source of injury on the battlefield

but for the purposes of a movie, then the armored collar is good visual shorthand for "it hit the fan" because its a very visible piece of protection that noticeably alters their silhouette and tells the audience that the wearer expects way more trouble

Although not a great movie story wise. “Where’s my money?!”
“In an evidence locker……why would it be here in our home?!”
The action and Ray’s Punisher more then made up for it.
>>
2004 was an excellent movie. Unfortunately, it’s not a good adaptation. The revenge plot was good, but Castle wouldn’t do that. Sounds more like something a woman would do. (Lifetime channel type of stuff).
I’m thinking he goes after both Saint and the Toro brothers. Make it so they have an army so we can see the kills from the comics.

There was supposed to be a Punisher television series back in the early 90’s. It was gonna be the same people that made Hunter. Clearly it never happened.

If I did a series, the pilot would be like those Hercules TV movies that aired before it became a series. Hour one would be Year One, hour two would be Marvel Previews #2. The show would basically be New York Undercover.

In the MCU I imagine Frank getting captured, and his boots and gloves are taken away. He is rescued and hides out in a military warehouse. But it’s arctic camouflage. So white boots, gloves, and ammo pouches. Frank looks at the guy and he says, “It’s better than nothing.”

I really hate how NWH solidified the idea of Tobey being the one superhero in his universe. With every movie being relatively low stakes compared to universe threatening issues, it was cool to imagine the other non MCU Marvel movies were just happening elsewhere.
