It's why Kingdom Hearts breaks his fucking mind. It's decades of unfiltered fanfic autism in a JRPG package that appeals to Disney adults and weebs alike and NEVER makes fun of itself. I literally cannot think of a more cringe-inducing combination of words, but does it with such sincerity, you can't help but smile at it. It's why Kingdom Hearts parking lot rolls over from being embarrassing to kind of cute as the years go by and media becomes more cynical and sarcastic.

>>155125573There's definitely a small layer of corporate cynicism to the first game. The only reason Square teamed up with Disney was because their characters were popular enough to rival Mario. But the way KH1 turned out is probably the most genuine version of a big Disney crossover you could have done at the time. The movies they picked were popular, but they came up with a story and setting that allowed all those different ideas to naturally coexist. They also created original characters that a more profit focused KH game would not have even bothered with. I'd put it above Space Jam at least.
