Are comics and cartoons still fun for you?
>>
>>155125390
Yeah, you just need to figure out what you like, how to find more of it, and stop over relying on 4chan to decide for you.
I'm honestly probably more into comics than cartoons right now but it's still fairly close
>>
>>155125390
Yes but I enjoy less than 1/4 of /co/

>>155125445
We can be helpful, ask for and give recommendations. We can also be funny... sometimes
>>
>>155125390
Yeah, but mostly the older ones. Also >>155125445.

I wish I had someplace to discuss them that wasn’t here. /co/ is ridiculously vitriolic and full of retarded secondaries. My LCS is okay, I guess, but also full of secondaries and currently being overrun by fucking Magic players. (I haven’t visited in something like a month due to their stench.) The closest I can get are my storytimes, and those don’t attract too much attention. (I’m plenty grateful for that which they do, though.)
>>
>>155125390
I love comics but no one wants to talk about them.
>>
>>155125883
Fellow storytimer (albeit in exile) here
What have you done?
>>
>>155125390
Comics recently have become more fun than I've ever felt about them before. Stupid as it may seem, the Absolute universe has gotten me to read a lot more older DC stuff. I really enjoy Kelley Jones' Batman stuff. I also figured out that I'm not as neutral as I thought I was, and I do prefer DC over Marvel for reasons too nebulous to get into right now.
Cartoons are on a bit of a downswing since there haven't been as many new good shows coming out as when I was younger, and I don't have any old good shows to discover since I know the landscape so well. Everything I do know about in my backlog, I'll be just as delighted to watch it as if I were still a bright-eyed youth, but it's disappointing how the medium is just barely scraping along these days.

I’m StrangeAnon. I storytime a bunch of my favorite character’s stories on their anniversaries. I’ve also done a few “off-brand” storytimes of other books that I like without my trip, but I put less effort into those so you’ll have to guess which they are. I just wrapped up the last storytime i’ll be doing in something like three weeks and it kind of bummed me out, I screwed up the order of some important things too late to fix them and don’t really have anything worth sharing lined up for the in-between period.

A few of my past storytimes have gone really really well, with something like 20-30 replies once the story was done, but most of the longer threads got that way due to some anons flinging shit at each other for a day or two or just endlessly bumping. I wish there was more discussion of the comics themselves or the characters involved so that I could keep the conversation going and talk more about the actual comics. I kind of used to do that at my LCS, but I never really found success since nobody there likes Doc enough to actually read his stuff. Or any of my other favorites. (Closest I’ve gotten to a proper conversation on comics or characters that I like there was a prolonged debate on whether Nightcrawler should be more of a devout Christian or flirty swashbuckler.)

What have you done? Curious as to what “in exile” means. Glad anyone else is storytiming at all, though.
>>
>>155125445
I want more shows like Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

I storytimed in 2024 and a lot in 2025
Technically I did a few before 2024 but that was the year I really began doing it actively
Did a few this year but then my desktop got "range blocked" for the past couple months.
Anyways I was the one who storytimed Amelia Rules!, Patty Cake, Thieves & Kings, Sunny, A Sea of Love, Jingle Belle, Rosalie Lightning, Hellaween, Leave it to Chance, Bandette, Clan Apis, Recess Warriors, SLG's Wonderland, Unico, Electric Girl, Glister, Anne of Green Gables, Princess at Midnight, Bea Wolf, The Land of Nod, Blue Monday, Peanut, The Mighty Skullboy Army, Opposite Forces, Psycho Killers (The John Wayne Gacy issue), Ida Red, Red's Planet, Lenore: The Time War, Magic Pickle, Reed Gunther, Cici's Journal, Nat Enough, The Creepy Case Files of Margo Maloo, The 3 Geeks, Civilian Justice, Compass, Amy Unbounded, Sardine in Outer Space, Rocketo, GoGirl!, and Captain Dingleberry.
May have left something out, I mostly copied and pasted this list from a previous thread
For the most part my traction went well though some stuff didn't do as well as I hoped.
>>
yea but i end up hating a lot of the cartoons and comics i used to like so it's a thin line

I watch old shows, and occasionally some new indie stuff like Space King.
Other than that, ehh, I've mostly come to the conclusion that comics and cartoons aren't really for me.

Make more good comic book threads, bros. Make as much as you can, and keep them bumped.

Avoid the usual shit that gets spammed. That means no Paul/MJ/Gwen threads, no Slott She-Hulk, no waifu crap like Carol or Cass or Katana.

Did you storytime last week the Defenders: From the Marvel Vault issue by Busiek? I'm still mad that I couldn't reply, I was banned. And the next day I wanted to share the archived thread in another one, but that one archived as well. Anyways if you're not that anon I'm still grateful for your storytimes. I wish that I could do it as well but I'm scared that it could backfire, in a certain way. And also the lack of replies will probably kill my motivation
>but most of the longer threads got that way due to some anons flinging shit at each other for a day or two or just endlessly bumping.
Some anons have been bitching recently because the discussion surrounding a character has been really shitty. I baked a thread and it archived with less replies than the threads they hate. In fact, they gave more attention to those, and a good amount of the replies in my thread came from a fag wanting to kill it. Fuck it

That was one of them, yes! I’d pulled an all-nighter and couldn’t commentate for shit, but still wanted to share the issue because I never see ANYONE talk about it. (Or Busiek’s miniseries either, really, and I don’t know why.)

>I'm still grateful for your storytimes. I wish that I could do it as well but I'm scared that it could backfire, in a certain way. And also the lack of replies will probably kill my motivation
Thank you! I’m glad to be doing them! (Sorry about the rotten luck with replies. Even the thought is appreciated.)

I’m not sure exactly what your fear of backfiring is, but the lack of replies I can definitely see being a motivation killer. I was second-guessing myself pretty hard when my second storytime barely had five replies despite a lot of effort going into sorting out behind-the-scenes blogposts, explaining my love for the story, and making connections between the author’s life and what he wrote. I wouldn’t recommend doing what I do without a lot of free time and inherent love of the story, just because it isn’t too rewarding beyond brief conversation, but if you must do it then I recommend commentating/preparing images ahead of time and posting all at once. It makes things a lot easier. Leaving some empty pages in the commentary also helps keep discussion going and allow for any additional comments you have while posting.

>I baked a thread and it archived with less replies than the threads they hate. In fact, they gave more attention to those, and a good amount of the replies in my thread came from a fag wanting to kill it. Fuck it
Seems like that’s the nature of the beast, unfortunately. With how overwhelmingly negative the internet is nowadays, combined with 4chan going down the shitter years ago, it seems harder and harder to avoid the kind of apathetic vitriol that infests a lot of threads nowadays. The best answer is to just keep on keeping on; it’ll hopefully attract like-minded people.

I'm very paranoid. And I'm not sure if eventually a storytimer will be sued.
>a lot of effort going into sorting out behind-the-scenes blogposts
You can find a lot of useful information that way. I discovered cool trivia and personal details about my favorite artist/writer because of his friends' obscure blog
This is very unrelated, but do you like homestuck?

>I'm very paranoid. And I'm not sure if eventually a storytimer will be sued.
I know I can’t do much to assuage that paranoia, but I can assure you that you won’t be sued for storytiming any time soon. Most attorneys have better things to do than try to chase down anonymous posters on image boards that are actively shilling the company’s product. Especially if you’re actively promoting said product with praise.

>You can find a lot of useful information that way. I discovered cool trivia and personal details about my favorite artist/writer because of his friends' obscure blog
Yeah, there are a shitload of old writers with blogspots or livejournals that tell all about their creation processes and inspirations. The fact that they’re farther and fewer in-between, and they’re being steadily lost (while new writers, most of whom shouldn’t even have jobs, barf all of their thoughts onto Bluesky or Twitter), is a crime. I’m doing my best to preserve them in my off-time, but there’s only so much you can do.

I was trying to find some commentary from Busiek for that Marvel Vault storytime, to see if there was any follow-up to his text page, but ended up learning too late that his blog had gone down at some indeterminate point in the past few years and hasn’t been reinstated. This stung doubly so when I learned that Astro City’s third volume had most of its letters moved onto that blog. I hope he does something about that soon, but I don’t have faith unfortunately. His medical troubles are probably keeping him busy.

>This is very unrelated, but do you like homestuck?
I’ve barely heard of it. I know there are trolls, the trolls do weird sex things, the fanbase was absolutely horrible while it was still alive, and the story itself imploded in a mix of spite and incompetence. I’ve little interest in it due to these reasons, but I can’t deny that some of its designs and its premise are a bit neat. Why do you ask?
>>
>>155128715
>Especially if you’re actively promoting said product with praise.
Alright I'll probably do it
>I’m doing my best to preserve them in my off-time, but there’s only so much you can do.
I hate the constant erasure of the Internet
>His medical troubles are probably keeping him busy.
This is the worst part. The only good writers are dying, and while they're alive either they're writing less or nothing at all
>Why do you ask?
I don't even like it, but I thought that I recognized you. Cool /co/mics oldfag that's also a hs-fag
>>
I love comics and cartoons. I just think Guy, Barneyfag, and SEAanon are massive flaming faggots.
>>
Despite the storytimes, this is the worst the board has been, considering there's no current FOTM causing mass spam. I predict it will continue to get worse.
What options do we have, as comicfags? Do we stick around making threads, getting no replies, our threads living as long as we bump them? Do we leave for good? Or do we fight back by spamming ourselves?
>>
When they're not being another convoluted variant of THIS, yes:

>What options do we have, as comicfags?
We should capitalize on the cultural success of anything related to comics, it doesn't matters how much we hate whatever is causing it. Even if the adaptation was shit, we can give our recommendations. The new Wolverine game is gay and will suck? Well then, post good Wolverine and X-Men comics. Share the existing lists or make our own. Do you hate capeshit? Share whatever you like. Make more GOOD threads, and don't reply to shit, then tell other anons that they should visit /co/. We can even recommend books to people that prefer cartoons on /co/ or hate comics for any reason

Of course this will never happen

>I hate the constant erasure of the Internet
As do I, so I’m trying to slow it as best I can with archival sites and pdf print-outs and such. But there’s only so much you can do without direct access to its servers.

>This is the worst part. The only good writers are dying, and while they're alive either they're writing less or nothing at all
It’s a cruel twist of fate. The best writers nowadays are probably in fanfiction (even if that sentence just made my skin crawl and my blood cuddle), because at least some of those people know and care deeply about the characters they’re writing. Not so for 99% of “canon” writers.

>I don't even like it, but I thought that I recognized you. Cool /co/mics oldfag that's also a hs-fag
Ah. I’m flattered to be compared to someone cool, but I must admit I’ve no clue who you’re talking about.

>>155129121 is right, and I’m trying to do my part where I can, but I really think it might be a better idea to abandon ship entirely and just make a forum or something. The mods won’t give us a board split because it’ll hurt their activity (and they’re lazy bastards besides), the cartoonfags will never leave, and social media is an absolute cesspool. Anyone still browsing an imageboard in 2026 is probably alternative enough to be open to a forum, and anyone who isn’t probably isn’t the kind of person said forum should want to attract in the first place. Plus, a forum would allow for banning of schizos and on-topic NSFW posting.
Just my two cents. I know most comic forums have gone the way of the dodo by now, but trying to make another will, at worst, change nothing. At best, it’ll solve most of the problems that /co/ has.

One anon storytimed two issues of his Spider-Man/Batman story. I enjoyed them more than the new canon comics

Holy shit you're smart, same reason why they don't ban and delete more. And because they're biased. I'm considering the forum, not necessarily a comics one. Things here are that bad, but I would never leave 4chan

Ooh, I remember that guy! I hope he comes back soon. He was a breath of fresh air.

I’m probably going to do something similar to him when I finish my own fan comics, whenever that is. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to storytime them here and then upload archives onto Comicfury or a dedicated website or something.

>Holy shit you're smart,
Hardly, but I’m flattered.

>same reason why they don't ban and delete more. And because they're biased.
Yeah, it may as well be an open secret that the schizos roam free because they create engagement. Engagement is good for ad revenue. It’s also good for propping up your dying site as “totally still alive you guys, just look at all these posts.” I’m pretty sure the reason the IP counter was removed specifically had to do with obfuscating how many schizo threads were very clearly one person spamming multiple posts.

>I'm considering the forum, not necessarily a comics one. Things here are that bad, but I would never leave 4chan
Are you referring to SheepishPatio or Agora’s Road? They’re the first examples that come to mind when I think of “semi-successful forums that originated from 4chan.” I think they’re more general hobby forums, though, and still quite small (if active). I’m a little concerned that making a forum very broad in topic might be the only way for one to survive in the modern day…
>>
>>155125390
I'm going through chronic pain and mental health issues which are making me severely depressed so ite extremely hard to enjoy anything. But sometimes something will break through and make me feel better. it's so fleeting and far and few between though. I usually only watch or rewatch old stuff.

>Are you referring to SheepishPatio or Agora’s Road?
Not really. It was mostly the general idea of using a forum, but there's this specific one that interests me that has an oldfag, millenial 4chan feeling. People definitely crosspost. And they talk about obscure shit
