Why did it take so long to get Iron Man's costume to look cool?
>>
>>155126382
Says you
>>
>>155126382
Because Joe Quesada was the only one who said "we need to lower our standards and pander to slop-eater midwits like OP"
>>
>>155126382
You're fucking tasteless if you think the classics, the modular, the MK 8, or a lot of others aren't cool.
>>
>>155126382
All sci-fi robots way back in the 50s were simplistic looking compared to modern robots.
>>

>>155127144
This looks like shit. It's a fucking power armor and they still apply spandex bullshit to it. You're the one who's tasteless.
>>
>>155127508
That's a lot of words to confirm you're a tastless slopper, OP
>>
>>155128457
Defending the old trash designs doesn't make you comic book connoisseur, it makes you a blind retard.
>>
>>155128518
>OP, a blind retard, calling anything trash or other people blind retards

lol
>>
>>155128864
Feel free to prove me wrong. The Granov design is the first great Iron Man design.
>>
>>155126382
Silver Centurion anyone
>>
>>155128923
You already proved yourself wrong, OP
>>
>>155127508
>THIS IS BAD BECAUS ARMORS SHOULD HAVE MUH REALISM

Opinion discarded.
>>
>>155128934
The musculature and visible eyes ruins it. Otherwise, it's not bad.
>>155128936
Prove me wrong.
>>155128959
The Granov design isn't realistic, it's cool. Try again.
>>

Probably because its hard to draw a mechanically detailed suit, but have the art maintain the energy to make it exciting for comics.
>>
>>155128988
>i-it's not realistic, it's cool

try again
>>
>>155129115
That is the challenge, but the old way of making them more like regular cape suits was not the way. I'm not going excuse artists not being to do their job.
And while Granov's design was stellar, he was terrible at drawing humans, at least in this painted style.
>>155129128
Did I stutter?
>>
>>155129247
>Did I stutter?

Yes.
>>
>>155126382
This looks like shit
>>
>>155129115
is this AI?
>>
>>155127508
Why did you pick one of the coolest armors to say comic Iron Man looks stupid?
>>
>>155130150
It's clearly irony anon
>>
>>155127508
As opposed to the spandex bullshit applied to the armor in your picture? Are you blind are a blind, retarded or a blind retard?
>>
>>155130184
Oh duh. Haha IRON-y
>>
>>155127508
>>155126382
>>155129115
I'd fucking kill to be able to go back in time and murder RDJ before he ruined Iron Man for all eternity. Then again, I'd also murder Kevin Feige before he ruined Marvel forever altogether. Absolutely insufferable FAGGOTS.
>>
Usually the Red and Gold suits weren't power armor; the helmet, carapace, gauntlets and boots are solid, and everything else is essentially super light, super tough chain mail. It hasn't been a bunch of places since the original Gold Armor.
>>
>>155128923
Granov's is a streamlining of the previous suit.
>>
>>155130522
It would be cool if Tony just made a regular ass business suit out of the stuff. Like “I‘ve got this stuff lying around so might as well do something with it”
>>
>>155130150
Because if that one is shit, the others are worse.
>>155130256
Not sure if serious...
>>155130485
Thank you for presenting the fact that fans of the older costumes are mentally ill and are thus poor judges of what looks good and what doesn't.
>>155130542
Let's see it.

not that anon but he's right. tony had the Mk 24/25 from 2003-2004. ellis/granov rebooted in dec 2004. but granov only started doing covers in dec 2003. pics related

granov is incredible. he revolutionized tony's suits to just looking like they had WEIGHT and were functional. but the defense dept suit wasn't his, even if he draws it the best. extremis is his masterpiece
>>
>>155127508
Faggot
>>
>>155126382
for some reason comic artists couldn't figure out how to draw good robo armor until the early 2000s
>>155130485
This suit predates the MCU by multiple years, retard
>>
This is peak Iron Man. No I will not elaborate. If you disagree, no you don't.
>>
>>155131153
Mimicking musculature with metal that way is interesting, but it looks easy to break.
>>
>>155127508
>this looks bad
>posts legit kino
>>
>>155131202
If you can't tell from the thread, OP is slop-brained
>>
>>155131062
Ah, very nice. Yes, Granov did improve upon it, but I see what you mean now.
>>155131267
These are slop:
>>155127508
>>155131153
>>
>>155131341
>If I repeat my braindead shit opinion over and over again, eventually people will think I'm right!

Nah. Just nah.
>>
>>155131341
What do you think of this one?
>>
>>155131267
the modular armor has the same problem all the pre 2000s armors had, the visible muscles prevent it from looking like a suit of metal armor
>inb4 b-but muh metallic mesh
don't care

I only hate that the armor has a thong, prefer it when they paint the abdomen red to hide this.
>>
>>155131395
Not Op but it's absolutely underated kino.
(I wished more armors had unique nicknames like the tinman or the modular armor does)
>>
>>155130485
IF you didn't cum the second you saw an armor scene in the first 2 movies or avengers you have something wrong at your core.
>>
>>155130419
Hehe
>>
>>155130256
It looking like spandex just shows how fucking advanced it is that it's metal & does that

>It looking like spandex just shows how fucking advanced it is that it's metal & does that

How long was it?
>>
>>155134684
41 years
>>
>>155129115
I dunno, Marvel has plenty of experience making mechanical characters dynamic with the Transformers comics; perhaps it's better to picture Iron Man as a small robot instead of a guy in a halloween costume?
>>
>>155134750
Nah, that's fucking lame. He isn't a mech pilot, he's a superhero. I don't want him to look like a robot, I was him to look like a superhero. The Extremis stuff is *fine* but I much prefer the classic red and gold.
>>
>>155134750
Marvel was pretty inconsistent with them in the comics. Especially in the Marvel UK stories.

Iron Man should sometimes be bulky. And incorporate Marvel-style Kirby sci-fi guns that fire huge lasers. If he's bulky then you feel the heavy metal madness that Iron man is. He is a guy who is hefty yet agile.

It's beyond kino. The 80's basically gave every hero a new definitively 2nd place costume/variant to their classic for every major figure.
>>
>>155127508
>all the seething replies
/co/ was just having a thread the other day where everyone was hating on the classic Sentnel designs and praising the DoFP movie redesign, where were you guys then to defend the honor of campslop
>>
>>155130485
This is from a 2005 comic. How does it feel to sperg out over nothing?
>>
>>155134774
>don't want him to look like a robo
Most people do because that's the whole point of the fantasy, an actual mechanical suit of armor
>>
Bump
>>
>>155129115
That's a huge dick OwO
>>
>>155129115
>Probably because its hard to draw a mechanically detailed suit,
all it really tells me is that capeshit artists can only draw a single thing and it's naked body builders
not saying that drawing that is bad, but you can tell that it hinders character design since they can't deviate away from the superhero aesthetic
iron man is supposed to be wearing power armor, it should be artificial and mechanical like a mech suit
>>
>>155138406
You are applying your biases from the future on to Iron Man's design from long ago.
>>
>>155134750
>Marvel has plenty of experience making mechanical characters dynamic with the Transformers comics;
What? If anything one of the biggest complaints about the TF comics were that they look like men in costumes.
>>
>>155138406
Anon you're posting a design meant to be used as reference for a 3D model, not a design meant to be redrawn over and over for 22 pages a month.
It's also a conception of armor that's relatively more modern
>>
>>155136883
>Most people
No, it seems like *you* want that, and you're repeating it over and over again as if it's true.
>>
>>155129897
no? the backgrounds and the plane are just retouched photographs
>>
>>155129897
Anon that page is from 2005.
>>
>>155138993
that doesn't answer the question
>>
>>155139200
There was no AI capable of generating images like that in 2005, no.

>>
>>155138879
If you ask anyone on the street what their idea of Iron Man is it'll be what I said. Frankly your stance is absurd
>character that appeals to sci-fi and technology fans should not actually look technologically advanced (even though even his campy designs that I'm defending were supposed to look advanced for their time)
Like what?
>>
>>155139963
So you claim that people whose first exposure to Iron Man is the live-action movies will favor the look of the live-action movies? That isn't particularly useful or notable.
>>
>>155138813
The artist that drew that has to draw that exact character multiple times with multiple variations and angles for hours on end
In fact, comics have the bigger advantage, because you can use paneling to only focus on certain parts of the body and not have to draw the full thing
Also, it's not really modern
This aesthetic is heavily inspired by classic media like this starship troopers ova from the 80s
By the time that came out, iron man was still rocking the chrome muscles look
Not deviating from that superhero design aesthetic is most likely why they couldn't let them be as creative with iron man as they could've been
>>
>>155140203
Considering the "Silver Centurion" armor was rejected as looking like a Transformer at the time and you say that is too close to superhero look already, it seems very unlikely an armor looking like that would have gone over well. If you ask anyone on the street, they will think of the 90s Starship Troopers movie which doesn't use those.
>>
>>155126382
Silver centurion, OP is a homosexual casual.
>>
>>155136691
To be completely fair, i like both sentinel designs. Now my issue with ironman is that theres a bunch of lazy artist that only draw MCU type armors, which causes a lot of designs like the model 42 to be completely lose their design because an artist can't draw anything else like in the picrel.
>>
>>155126382
Because classic Iron Man looked like he was wearing a shiny costume as oppose to an actual armor.
>>

>>155139963
We can absolutely reach a middle ground with the skin tight but also technologically advanced look like the bleeding edge armor for example.
>>155140086
Sadly it's true I seen a lot of normies or people that like armor preferring the MCU or modern armor looks than the "spandex" look.
