A passion project by Michel Gagne (cartoonist and animator).

Another huge win for indie animation. Big corporations had zero say, creator had full creative control.

AI Slop generated by Indians on Youtube Kids will get tens of thousands of more views and money than this.
He's wasted a big part of his life. Lol.
>>
Ooops, didn't see the FIRST thread, accidentally bumped the second.

Michel promised a movie in only a few years on his Kickstarter in 2013. And then he delayed...... and delayed......... AND DELAYED. I am still mad about that. Should have said "y'all niggas are funding part 1, the rest will be completed who knows which century!"
>>
>>155132154
He should've used AI when it was introduced.
>>
>>155132183
def agree with you, ai would have sped up the animation a lot and this could have come out sooner.

(the movie WAS going to be shot for shot but an additional writer was added to the production, and now it's a slight expansion)

From the interview:
>Although I’m intrigued by the possibilities of ethical AI, I made a very deliberate decision to have absolutely no AI involved in The Saga of Rex. I wanted the film to be pure — a celebration of human craftsmanship and, in some ways, almost an anti-AI statement.

That's the vibe I get. The main selling point with this is that it took 14 years to make; very little is being said about the story in the promotions.
It's like Loving Vincent and Boyhood. Cool filmmaking techniques, but that's not going to carry a dogshit story.
>>
>>155138018
Plot synopsis is literally in the video description

Why is it advertised as single-handedly made when there's a whole other person there?

>>
>>155140940
It's a 1 man project, please understand. Sometimes 1 man forgets he is 2 man.
>>
>>155140014
I think depending on whatever traction it gets from the festival circuit it's certainly likely. Nothing more than a limited weekend release in select theaters, but that's usually the best you can hope for for a project like this. Congrats to Gagné for pulling it through.
>>
>>155140940
Gook slaves again. It's always fucking gook slaves, what the hell? Can westoids actually do 2D animation fully on their own?
>>
>>155127925
Why are there so many bad-faith arguments against a project like this? It's a passion project that was already financed by people that wanted to see it, and now it's coming out. It's not the type of project I expect will be shilled heavily for more than a day, so what is there to get outraged by? It's an inoffensive animated production that will have its time in the limelight and move on.
>>
>>155141830
Imagine watching to the credits to find that the single-handedly made animation has two animators

>>155140940
seriously though, why not credit it as a duo project? Inbetweens are a lot of frames, Seung Beom Kim's work might as well be acknowledged in the advertising
>>
>>155142125

>what is there to get outraged by

Take your pick:

Outrageously delayed crowdfunding
Autistic furshit art style that reeks of cubshit (i.e. pedophiles)
White man erasing his person-of-color art slave and claiming he did all the work himself
Owning the AIchuds

Something for everyone to hate!
>>
>>155140940
who? obvious michel did everything, he wrote the script, did the animation, no one helped him, he did it himself!
>>
>>155142273
>Imagine watching to the credits to find that the single-handedly made animation has two animators
It would be Top Kek if that happens.
>>
>>155142406
This is interesting. This film was in various stages of production since 2013, and the comic was storytimed here at least once. AND YET YOU WERE NOT THERE.

Who are you, really?
>>
>>155142737

Not a furfag like you, who are obviously having a meltdown that people kneejerk dislike your furshit.
>>
>>155142406
Let's analyze your claims step-by-step.

>Outrageously delayed crowdfunding
For a feature film produced by a solo artist on a budget of $60,000, what part is "delayed?" The film's lengthy development is partly because he didn't want to sacrifice quality, but also because he is a professional working animator. He also shared updates with his unanimously supportive backers.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/michelgagne/the-saga-of-rex-the-animated-film-project/posts
>Autistic furshit art style that reeks of cubshit (i.e. pedophiles)
...or, a style cultivated from years working at animation studios that produced films fueled by waxy Bambi memories; cartoons about mice, dinosaurs, dogs, and so on. And a graphic novel, which formed the basis of the film.
https://www.gagneint.com/Final%20site/books/Rex_saga/Rex_saga_main.htm
>White man erasing his person-of-color art slave and claiming he did all the work himself
The only reason we know about Seung Beom Kim's involvement is precisely because of Gagné, who is insistent on keeping Kim in the picture every step of the way. He even refused Kim's help, but Kim remained a steadfast part of the project. It's a film that is special to the two of them.

>Owning the AIchuds
...years before generative AI was even a thing? The film started production in 2012, I'm not sure I follow your logic here. The thoughts and feelings of a loud vocal minority have no bearing on the quality of the product itself. Gagné is also not anti-AI, he believes in ethically-sourced (ie. not stolen) uses of the technology.
https://www.animationmagazine.net/2026/08/michel-gagne-shares-the-story-of-his-one-man-animated-feature-the-saga-of-rex-new-trailer/

I'm not sure what you're actually upset about or why you're using it as an excuse to attack this particular film, I just find it very strange when none of those arguments apply.
>>
>>155142778
So, when did you start posting?
>>
Read the interview, and honestly Michel should have said something like "the Kickstarter was for a 5 minute chunk ONLY, the rest is TBD". Then I would not get mad at the poor dude for taking 14 years. I felt betrayed, while it was only an issue of miscommunication.
>>
>>
Markiplier and Kane really did open the doors for everyone independent to be in theaters
For better and worse

>delayed crowdfundung
You're retarded. Crowdfunding was for a short, and the short was already completed a decade ago. Actually read what crowdfunding is for next time.
>>
Give AI shills the global rule 15 treatment, it shouldn't be allowed for them to shit up every single thread in existence going "uh but you could use AI"
>>
>>155147796
The inherent problem of imageboards. Only permanent solution is accounts. Second best solution is a large team of well paid mods.
>>
>>155147820
Nah, none of that is necessary. To this day mods still ban colorful horses on sight, they treat it like cheese pizza and it might be the only subject they’re actually passionate about deleting. All they gotta do is direct some of that energy toward subjects that are actually harmful in 2026 rather than ones that were considered harmful in 2010.
>>
>>155147673
as an executive producer, instead of another animator, when the top itself says "single-handedly"
>>
>>155147853
Imageboards are all scanned 24/7 to train AI. Where do you think ReCaptcha results are sent to?

While it is commendable that he held tight with the project for so many years and that it will be completed soon; Unfortunately, for me, this trailer is honestly... all over the place.

Instead of making a coherent whole for a small time format, on how to grab the audience's attention, it basically does the opposite.

Constant, constant AND constant mish-mash of variety of scenes where you can't figure out heads and tails on what is actually going on. Even to figure out a basic plot-line, as a newcomer. And no, I am not going to read his original comic book form, just to connect the pieces.

For an almost finished film, there was certainly an amount of material, that could have been used for both purposes. As a trailer for sticking your guns for 2D animation, and as a regular trailer with a basic plot explanation for starters. Don't remember the last time I was, semi alienated about this.

Here's is an example oh how to hook your audience, for a project that never got made, but at least made it's way in comic form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8agE5ImTuW4
