Catdog thread since the threads about the cartoon that premiered the month after it are genuinely awful
>>
...the hells the other cartoon?

i loved catdog as a kid, but revisiting it is depressing. literally everyone else is a bully in some fashion. can't even avoid constant verbal abuse from their own tenant.

cat's fucking catchphrase is "My body! My body! My body!". His catchphrase, because of how constantly harmed he is.

the single happiest episode is when they get stuck in a trash heap in the middle of the highway. for them, it's a vacation.

Had to Google it. He's talking about PPG, presumably because of the spamming autist.

I heard the reason nick would dump green slime on guests and stars was so the execs could greenscreen it out and replace it with white so they could pretend its cum and masturbate to it

CatDog is the first nicktoon where its first airing isnt the same as its official premiere. It first aired on April 4, 1998 right after the Kids Choice Awards and then reran the next day, but aside from the Fan Mail short and maybe something else airing during commercial breaks, it didn't air again until it officially premiered on October 5, 1998.

Powerpuff girls, Catdog came out in October of 98, and Powerpuff premiered the next month

CatDog always felt like it came out at the end of what I consider 90s Nickelodeon. It felt like the start of a new era of Nick for some reason, though maybe part of why is because Nick eventually got to a point where they mostly only aired stuff from 1998 onwards once it got to the early 2000s.

I love how wonky and irregular those buildings look

CatDog is my guilty pleasure show. I love their design; it’s simple, goofy, and really charming. Half of the time they look like snakes, but it adds to the slapstick. Tom Kenny and Jim Cummings gave a lot of life to these guys.
Nickelodeon is still retarded for betting ALL of their chips onto this show. I think the writers who were stuck making episodes wanted to vent out their frustrations by making CatDog as miserable as humanly possible because the “mean-spiritedness” that gave the show it’s notoriety ramps up around Season 2, specifically the episode where CatDog move out of town because they got sick of getting bullied by everybody.

That episode you're talking about oddly enough is the only episode that immediately comes to my mind when I think of CatDog. I remember other episodes too, but that one stuck with me because of how harsh that whole episode was. The episode seemed like it was trying to parody emotional episodes. I think?

People always talk about how mean the show’s characters are but I don’t see nearly as many people criticizing how grimy and uninspired their world is.
Catdog’s house is creative with its split design, but the entire rest of Nearburg is a depressingly disgusting location with absolutely no memorable locations, interesting landmarks, or “fun” in general. It’s such an incredibly bland setting.

I can only remember Winslow’s labyrinthine house in that one episode, but you’re right.

This show was originally going to be a board driven show like Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life where the visuals would help drive the story a lot. However, it ended up being script driven due to Nick's high demands of wanting to get as many episodes as possible. It was ordered 40 episodes to start out with so uh...yeah.
