Yes, that is why people hate Steven Universe. Because it was sincere.

Reminder that the industry person who made this xeet is the same troon who complained about a gag in a SpongeBob episode of a manly muscular nurse for being "transphobic" and IIRC, chimped out at Ren & Stimpy veteran Bob Camp who designed the character and then proceeded to brown nose for a gig on The Patrick Star Show.

Camp was right about the industry being "an awful place full of horrible people"

Trannies and leftists forget that sincerity is sometimes the baseline prerequisite for a good story or that it depends on the structure/tone of the story. And sometimes even comedy needs it and doesn't require any sort of ego at all or it requires an ego that has to be made clear and understandable so that it isn't always the result of each and every joke.
If it's "Wow look how dumb/silly I was/I am!" every single time then you're just Woody Allen or the Woody Allen, Orson Welles saw. It's a version of humblebragging that you're able to move past some bad thing when it gets to a certain point. That's why people hate trannies because they're basically self-imposing this supposed obstacle on themselves but then try to have their cake and eat it too.
Then there's too much ego and that's shit like modern Simpsons where it's using every joke possible or trying to be snide and above it all.
>>
>155132402
It's all too common nowadays
I see it all the time here
That's literally why you never see anyone who complains about modern cartoons make their own cartoon/webcomic/book
Some youtube critic/reviewer decides to make something of their own and it turns out to be shit

At a strange point in life where I have to watch le epic parody of genre that hasn't had a good original animated series that wasn't also a parody/deconstruction of the genre or milennial show where the villains aren't actually evil except like one super evil one.
>>
>>155133028
Some genres might have more parodies than straightforward examples by this point.
I can't find a single pulpy science fiction story that isn't extremely old or a parody of the concept, to the point I question if that had ever been a real thing, for example.

Sincerity is boring (that's why I never got into Klasky-Csupo Nicktoons, Football Head and anime)

Sincerity doesn't mean tumblr

>>155132133
The problem is structural.
Most cartoons are made in a boardroom. They're seen as toyetic products first long before they're considered art.
While they have gotten more and more serious, because that makes money, because in brings in more fans... they're fundamentally unable to make anything sincere.

Let me explain. Sincerity is vulnerability. To create a story that's touching requires you to talk about things that are (in a vulnerability sense) socially unacceptable.
Once you've already got the story, you can talk about it all you like, you can praise it, criticize it, analyse it, it's fine. But the process of actually making it requires much more intimate conversation.
Think of a story you like that really touched you, that had real emotion behind it, and try to imagine yourself sat in a board room with people you don't know, try to imagine yourself not presenting your story, but creating it. You have to share with them the bare pitch, the starts of an idea, not fully formed.
You can't do it. It's impossible to do without immediatley putting up your social defences. You force yourself to describe your story in a way that's cool, like you're just a mastermind behind it but it doesn't really resonate with you. You dumb it down, you lampshade it, you add jokes to make it insincere, because you cannot be vulnerable with strangers you don't know.

Film directors get away with it by being hyper aggressive. They defend their vulnerability by attacking everyone around them. They have to, because they are in a vulnerable position by the very act of making their stories. But this is why their stories are so good.

SU had a weird contempt toward animes, and "manly stuff" portraying it as weird while also doing shonen fights. HS is gay and stupid.

>>155133569
The problem with SU isn't that it had contempt for anime, but that Sugar was too sincere to the point of growing to become extremely naive and completely shattering whatever sense of naturalism and emotional believability that S1-2 laid out.

Early Steven Universe was truly special because it was a fusion of Sugar's favorite media (Zim, NGE, Utena, The Simpsons, Spumco cartoons, etc) and her grounded thoughts and feelings about life and other people. There's a sense of fun optimism and tenderness but it's quite bittersweet and slightly cynical. S1-2 is sad in a real way, sad in the sense that Steven is living a happy life and rolls with the punches that life gives him (because he doesn't really know any better) while everyone else is scarred, hurt, and left to pick up the pieces. Rose is a failed God-Messiah-Lightbringer and Steven is her successor meant to carry out Tzedek and champion Teshuvah.

That's kinda the whole point behind Rose's Fountain being the way it looks, especially with the entrance being shaped to resemble the Star of David. Through neglect, the water of God in Eden has become blocked, but it is only through Strength and Mercy that restoration is able to begin again.

S3 is where the emotional groundedness vanishes thanks to Sugar overdosing on idealism and getting lost in the sauce of an awkward blend of neo-Jewish/Christian naivete

>>
>>155133767
Early SU works because of Steven acting as the Messiah-Bodhisattva that the quietly miserable setting desperately needs. Steven is pure and relatively untainted by the same immature and stupidly adult selfishness that plagues the rest of the cast. It is because he is like a small child that he is able to figuratively enter Heaven unlike the rest of the cast.

I'd actually consider S1-2 to be VERY Christian when all is said and done. Steven constantly believes in the inherent goodness of other people while also not allowing other people to engage in unrestricted selfishness that harms the community. He is even willing to allow harm to come to him so that others may not be injured. Through his actions of loving-kindness, he undoes the "original sin" of Rose's failure and the evils of the Gem Empire.

If anything, I assert that S3 is where things start to fall apart because Sugar hit reverse and made things revolve around Jewish metaphysics instead: Steven really IS just as bad as everyone else, and everyone else can be equally as good, which leaves the inherent mythic-story as a Jewish counterpart (it has no proper ending).

Steven Universe was not mocked for its sincerity. It was mocked for its random moments of low production value, inconsistent pacing, and over-emphasis on fringe, ideological beliefs. People fucking loved it when SU leaned hard into its melodrama and musicals, because those were the moments that felt sincerely Rebecca Sugar. Stuff like the Dove commercials or shipbait the storyboard artists kept pushing were hated because everyone could tell that someone else's vision was being hijacked.

We didn't need Steven in a dress to understand that he's a young man more in touch with his feminine side. But you just know some blue-hair retard insisted on how important it was to showcase it and Rebecca Sugar probably shrugged and said, "Ok! Sounds good!".

Also, hating Homestuck because it mostly appeals to teenagers is fine. People hate YA novels all the time cause they're kind of corny. The point is that they should still exist even if people call them cringe. Homestuck never went away, so I don't know why this person is implying audiences chased it away.
>>
>>155133875
>Steven constantly believes in the inherent goodness of other people
This is not Christianity. This is Westernized Buddhism. Christianity believes that everyone has the capacity for great evil and it's only through a savior can we hope to overcome those internal desires.

It's actually amazing that this person has done nothing but have terrible opinions. You'd think the broken clock theory would eventually hit. It's made even worse when you discover this guy is in the industry AND see others in the industry agree with him. Then you go, oh fuck, these are the people destroying the animation scene right now.

Troon you couldn’t handle reading my stories and giving an opinion on them.
Even my own former best friend hasn’t surfaced for years after I showed one of my series that was being oriented as a big gift to her. They’re real shockers.
>>155132133
Homestuck fell down a bunch of stairs of irony and pandering to whatever Tumblr thinks this week. It left sincerity behind in Act 5 after Tumblr obsessed over the trolls without even reading the story. I could’ve worked on it but members like my former best friend chose a gazillion layers of bullshit, I chose sincerity.
>>
>>155132663

Same person also now works on The Patrick Show and that character has not appeared at all since their time on the show

Bob Camp is also a storyboard supervisor on that show.
>>
>>155133569
It wasn't a contempt of anime rather it was a contempt of escapism. Originally it was supposed to criticize escapism with the crew coming from marginalized backgrounds where they didn't want to be special but rather be perceived as normal which is why none of the humans see the gems as strange despite their apparent alienness. Later it became a fondness for escapism because the crew realized the were using escapism by having the gems be treated as normal by the humans.
In short the SU loves the more dramatical portion of anime in the same way a shoentard only cares about the fight scenes.

For some reason cartoons these days tend to attract almost nothing but absolute pieces of shit.

>Steven Universe and Homestuck weren't ashamed of their own source material because they were their own source material.
I think people just want adaptations to not be piss takes of their own origin material. To just trust in the genuine love the fandom has for a popular IP and not turn everything into a Netflix animated sitcom.

If you want something sincere just watch Neftlix Castlevania or DMC.

There's a difference between the characters being ironic because they're teenagers and using it as a coping mechanism for their shitty lives and abusive guardians and the story being ironic because the author hates you. The latter only started happening in act 6.

People did like SU. It was popular. Even /co/ liked SU for the first couple seasons before it really started to go downhill. "People hate it" is shorthand for "I don't like it" for people who can't bear to form opinions independent of the herd.

>>
>>155138283
Read it again, they're contrasting the two designs. Sandy is "women with muscles meant to evoke respect".

But they're still wrong because the nurse isn't meant to be trans she's just meant to be unattractive and masculine, in contrast to the extremely attractive and feminine nurse shown earlier.
Some people aren't capable of realizing that cartoons are not humans, they are analogies for humans. Their features are not meant to be taken literally.
