how possible would it be to make my own, sustainable, indie animation studio?Where do I start? I already create animations and have been for 7 years
>>155132604>indie animation studio>sustainablelollmao
>>155132604If you want a studio, go make a lot of money so you can hire people, and then we'll talk
>>155132711Well if tv animation is dead, how is indie going to replace it?
>>155132604If you didn't start making YouTube money by 2016, it's already over
>>155132604I like how Vaggi is the most iconic character to represent Viv/Hazbin Hotel.
>>155132604Look, I don’t know if saying this makes me an asshole but Long Gone Gulch shouldn’t even be part of the discussion anymore. Shit came out like a decade ago without any follow-up, so as far as I’m concerned it’s also long-gone. At least most of the other things in this image made it to episode 2, except Lackadaisy, which I would also say should be out of the discussion but it IS going to get a second episode at some point.
>>155132604By getting sponsored by mega corporations like half the "indie" shit in your op.
>>155135174Wouldn't that be Nifty? Or Angel Dust?
>>155132604You have to become a vendor to people buying animation, and then you have to decide what your long term strategy and ethos will be- aka what kinds of paying clients you want, and what sort of original animations you plan on making for yourself. Then you have to figure out and constantly be thinking about monetisation and keeping the lights on every waking hour of the day- build teams of employees and pay them, following the trade papers, following up with your clients and taking on meetings with them... so on and so forth. Idk.
>>155132815What makes you think indie's gonna replace anything? A single studio operating off Australian government grants with a single breakout hit and a bunch of flops?
>>155137203I actually know a bunch of people who run a studio like this and they've received an insane amount awards and collaborations with Fortune 500 companies. They're very talented in their craft, but they're also businessmen and techbros. They're basically set for life yet if you look their studio up online you'll barely get any results at all and their social media pages that have hundreds to a few thousands followers. It's kinda crazy that there's plenty of people and companies like this around the world making shittons of money that you've never heard of while you see famous names that greatly contributed to the industry desperately scrambling for money through online crowdfunding, just being a great artist isn't enough.
>>155132604Sustainable? Insanely hard. You can create something with friends and even get a reasonably good following, but financing is ALWAYS an issue with indie productions. It has a lot to do with luck and timing which aren’t really things you can control. Work on indie animation if you want to work on indie animation, but starting a starting a studio is not a replacement for having a job.
>>155135215Lackadaisy only came out a few years ago and has had several shorts since then.
>>155132604I suggest getting some kind of fanbase first, who will be there when you post new stuff and won't forget about you if something takes more than a month to complete. Maybe post drawings and small animations of characters you plan on doing something bigger with.
>>155137873> They're basically set for life yet if you look their studio up online you'll barely get any results at all and their social media pages that have hundreds to a few thousands followers>set for lifeDoubt
>>155138310I literally cannot get a jobFucking McDonald's rejected me 5 times
>>155138335Guy who founded it actually came from an already rich family and has other talents besides animation and being able to network like crazy. People like this do not ever end up on the street penniless. It's a good position, because the real multi-billion players have way more responsibility on their heads. That's one of the biggest blackpills about life. People like to think it's like an RPG character sheet where you have to allocate a limited pool of points, but charismatic guys with extremely high IQs are basically good at everything.
>>155138383> Guy who founded it actually came from an already rich family and has other talents besides animationSo your post is disingenuous. You were alluding to the fact that they’re set for life based on the merit of their animation studio alone. That’s like saying “Jeff Bezos started a rocket company and he’s basically set for life”. Both those things are true, yet the statement is misleading.
>>155132604Glitch was subsidized by the Australian govt to get started. Murder drones and TADC obviously were their first profitable IPs. I would suggest that + rich dad
>>155138517The wealth helped but it's not like everyone would be able to achieve the same things with money alone. Plenty of rich kids out there who just party around and beg their parents for money as they're pushing 30.There's a reason why the chronically homeless do not stop their habits if you just give them free housing.
>>155138340If you can’t get a single job anywhere, it doesn’t bode well for the future of your animation “career”. It’s WAY easier to make a living working in restaurants than in indie media of any kind.
>>155138534You’re losing the plot
>>155138310>It has a lot to do with luck and timing which aren’t really things you can control. Why CAN'T we control luck and timing tho???
>>155135215LGG was greenlit but got rat fucked with a merger. There's no info out because of legal reasons .>>155138310Doesn't help that a lot of indie shit (not talking about Glitch) isn't marketable, if not forgettable
>>155138564>McDonald's >"restaurant"
