anyone who's lived with, been friends with, or had any relation to burned out stoners with social anxiety and severe depression recognizes a lot of similar traits and experiences with characters in this comic. Humans tend to enjoy media they can personally relate to. If you can't relate then you probably have no experience with the margins of society.

Meggs an emotional cunt who hides behind her drug use rather than confront her actual problems, Mogg is a douche who can only operate in a Status Quo where everyone's a huge loser so he feels cool or otherwise he's just that dude who gets cheated on a lot and Owl someone they don't even like but keep around anyway because he pays most of the bills and is a good punching bag, despite the fact he can and did leave at one point

It's a good comic when Simon's writing about drugs and art. When he's trying to write Meg's troubles from a female perspective, it falls apart. It's unfortunate he chose her as his childhood trauma character. Bullying is just different for girls vs boys. The locker room scene was ridiculous.

That’s more Owl. He stuck around because despite being a punching bag, he could also feel superior as the only functional one out of the lot of them.
Mogg’s thing is more that he peaked in high school and never tried afterwards. He’s completely passive

IIRC, Owl leaving is the chronological end point of the series. Everything before that is a prequel, unless I'm mistaken.
