>Momoko continues to redefine her artistry! This November, the visionary artist debuts MOMO-TONE VARIANT COVERS, an all-new variant collection that showcases a bold new technique for the best-selling cover artist. In these gorgeously painted pieces, Momoko utilized screentones, adhesive sheets traditionally used in manga to create dynamic shades of gray and dramatic shadows. The result is a striking collection of dramatic portraits of Marvel icons unlike anything Momoko has created before, while still remaining true to her unmistakable signature style!>When asked about the project, Momoko shared, “When I was in school, I always wanted to use screentones for my artwork, but they were too expensive for me to afford. Now I have the opportunity and decided to challenge myself by using screentones for these new Marvel covers.”>“But an obstacle emerged,” Momoko explained. “How to color using watercolor paint on these screentones? So instead of painting on top of the screentones (risking the art warping), I tried and found that painting on the back of the canvas was very effective! It created a very clean, soft tone color palette that comes through the painting when light passes through from behind. I always enjoy these trial and error challenges and discovering the best methods of painting.
