I'm so confused by the positive reception of episode 1. It's not terrible, but it doesn't feel like Green Lantern. Is it REALLY that hard to give fans First Flight in live action? Do you think by episode 8 the series will be a collective winner, or a "afraid to be comic book" dud?

probably because you're mentally retarded
>>

Like clockwork, first poster is a fag like every other thread. Is there something you personally liked about episode 1 you'd like to share?
>>
>>155141776
like clockwork, the first poster is based
>>
Why didn't Hal just scan the guy with his ring to determine if he was alien or not?
>>
>>155141767
Wouldn't know, haven't watched any of it and I'm not going to.
>>
>>155141950
He was low on power.

>I'm so confused by the positive reception of episode 1
TV audiences, especially live action TV audiences, vastly outweigh comic audiences, and don't give a fuck about how accurate a show is to the comic books.
Any other blatantly obvious questions you want answered?
>>
>>155141767
Why would you want that shit film in live action?
>>
>>155141767
I'm glad they killed that pedo off
>>
>>155142081
That doesn't track. He has enough power to contain a bomb, but he can't use his ring AI to scan what species the suspect is?

>Shitting on First Flight
Now I know this is bait
>>
>>155141950
>>155142798
It was that good of a human costume.
>>155141767
Hal was absolutely based that's how. I'm hoping 2026 is the B plot and we get more Hal and by the end he comes back. I'm also hoping John stays cucked in his Surf Dracula chair.

>I'm hoping 2026 is the B plot and we get more Hal and by the end he comes back
We know we'll at least get more, there's a lot of scenes in the trailer that weren't in this episode, so probably parallel mysteries. Now leaks say he does come back but as Parallax but they might have changed this.
>>
>>155143440
The problem is that we're dealing with a show that is very clearly going to be conservative with the alien shit. Hell they openly admitted Hal in costume was a last minute addition.

Also I hated the sheriff character.

I guess the only silver lining I'm hoping for is Sinestro appearing in a future DCU project with yellow ring as a Legion of Doom member. It's the only thing that makes sense as to why they greenlight shit like People vs Gorilla Grodd, they're fast tracking villains

I want this fig but not enough to pay $40
The bane 3 pack with bane batman and nightwing is only $32
>>
I think the biggest pushback is from people who naturally are expecting something Star Wars/Star Trek yet we're stuck on Earth wearing earth tones
>>
>>155141767
It's another Surf Dracula where we will see someone in a GL suit fighting bad guys from space in the last 5 minutes of the last episode.
>>
>>155142814
I rewatched it and Emerald Knights this week. First Flight was bad, EK was good.
>>
>>155144202
How is First Flight bad? It's the perfect GL origin movie
>>
>>155144207
The second act is boring as can be, and it never recovers enough to make up for it. I get that they needed Senestro to be scheming, but it was just a lame scenario and just meanders. Hal isn't set up enough either. We don't get a sense of who he is before he gets the ring, and then he's just thrust into the Corps. It somehow manages to be too rushed and too slow.

>afraid to be comic book
Pretty much all of the "behind the scenes" stuff has led me to that conclusion because they keep emphasizing "wanting it to be grounded" (which is fucking laughable for a show about space cops trying to uncover an alien invasion)

I liked episode one for what it was. I've been a fan of Green Lantern for as long as I can remember (started with the Millennium Edition of Brave & The Bold 28) and consider the series one of my all time favorites

I think Hal maybe a bit out of character in some places, but like Barry, he's very Vanilla and I've always considered him more or less kind of like an avatar for the reader/viewer
>>
>>155141767
Actual adults want a real show. Not more kiddy friendly star wars faggotry.
>>
Super heroes are for children. Trying to make them adult is retarded.

I got both 3 packs the color change paint makes his skin look a little off compared to other figures in the line. Hopefully there will be a single release.

>I'm so confused by the positive reception of episode 1

I haven't seen any positive reception, aside from shills and shitposters here on /co/.
>>
>>155144255
>meanders.
Everything had a purpose so I can't agree with this.
>Hal isn't set up enough either.
What is there to set up? He meets Abin Sur, he gets the ring, and he gets official training/introduction to Oa.

You assessment is way off

It's more like a game to wait and see when Warner plans to deflect any criticism as politically charged hatred towards a minority lead.
So far not quite yet but I'm sure that day is coming.
>>
>>155144478
I don't think that works here because John Stewart has a following thanks to the DCAU cartoons. Fans aren't even upset about the "replacement" aspect of the show, they're just sick of Surf Dracula

>My “world” is my local trailer park and Cletus’s family of cousins hated it

Worse than living under a rock.

I enjoyed it alot. I care more about a good story than cool visuals, even though the latter of course also matters.
For me personally, waiting for actual space cops GL stuff to happen isn't a surf dracula thing, but more of a soft launch into the world of GL to the normal non /co/fag viewer.

Of course, niggers were flabbergasted when episode 1 basically knocked it out of the park when you compare it to the expectations (which I always love when something is expected to be shit but turns out good), but we'll just have to wait and see if they can keep the quality steady.

Also, Kyle Chandler is a fantastic Hal. I was sad to see him dead at the end of the episode. The way he was sitting and his facial expression really made me melancholic. I came to accept him quickly.

I don't agree with >>155144343 about Hal being Vanilla in the sense of being a POV for the reader, because Hal definitely has characteristics that are hallmarks and can (or should) be recognised in his different iterations. Personally, I blame animated media for this. As much as I enjoy the DCAMU, sometimes they tend to get their heroes' personalities wrong. The only one they keep nailing are Batman and the surrounding cast.

>I'm so confused by the positive reception of episode 1.
Listen that first trailer was so bad that the first episode actually being watchable if not good kind of skewed the reaction.
>>
>>155141767
>I'm so confused by the positive reception of episode 1
I'm confused why people like Smiling Friends and its retarded zoomer brainrot humor. But clearly the majority disagrees.

But Lanterns is just good and the reception is good. Step outside of your echo chambers, touch grass, and accept people think different from you. Especially regarding James Gunn.
>>
Is it true that in most of the early green lantern comics they weren't all military or cop people?
I not too familiar with he source material, but i always heard kyle rayner was an artist

It could have been done more interesting, though.
Hal is the same before and after he gets the ring. There is no change. His character remains pretty much the same.

Online isn't reality. Normal people in the real world don't consume media based on capeshit unless it's Batman or the MCU.
