>Arguably Spider-Man's archenemy for over a decade>One of the best villain designs in his rogues gallery>Made completely redundant and irrelevant by Norman Osborn's resurrection>All discussion about him now is MCU-heads saying the fat gook from the White Miles film series is gonna become him because he happens to share a name with a character who wore the costume in one (1) issueHow did it all go so wrong for our favourite orange fiend?
>>155150563Oh hey I just read that comic you posted. Neat
>>155150563No one could think of a new take on him that worked
>>155150563>Arguably Spider-Man's archenemy for over a decadeConsidering writers didn't even know the identity of the Hobo goblin for most of that decade, I feel like the problem was mystery boxing his secret identity and then flip flopping on who it should be and kicking the can down the road on figure out the twist later. it's a bad way of writing a story. Also all goblins will always be Kirkland brand Norman Osborn no matter what you do to try and make them unique and cooler.
>>155150876I think Hobby has escaped Norman's shadow, but I concede that making that happen again is extremely unlikely
Still say Ned Leeds should have been the clone saga mastermind >><Was a James Bondage hostage in the issue the clone appeared in>>Had a super shitty death that should have overturned immediately rather than allowed to stick>>Peter fucked his wife Betty when Betty and Ned were on the outs the first time around, a reveal that could be used to nuke the Spiderman marriage as far as MJ leaving Peter in disgust>>Helped cover up Betty fucking Flash Thompson behind Beds back>>In general was a toxic influence on Betty and caused her to go insane which strained her marriage >>No one gave a shit about Macendale >>Fit the profile Bob Harras had that the Clone Saga had to be done by someone with a massive grudge against Peter
>>155150563... Do you mean the Hobgoblin in general, Roderick Kingsley or Jason Macendale? I know you don't mean the demon that possessed Jason and that you just happened to pick that page.
>>155151033It should have been Paul.
>>155150563>hobcels continuing to seethe over STORMIN' NORMANHe had his time. Now he's just a costumed goon randomly showing up every once in a while.
The Hobgoblin everyone liked was unceremoniously killed off for a shock moment after only a few years and they replaced him with Jason Macendale, a loser. Every Macendale story was about how he was a try-hard loser, always attempting to upgrade his status, first by stealing someone else's costumed identity, then getting merged with a demon, then taking Kraven's serum, then getting cybernetic implants. Hobgoblin Lives, where Stern got to finally have it his way, happened after Norman came back.Slott eventually found a good place for him, being the guy who licenses out villain identities.
>>155150563>>155151056Yeah, one his most iconic villains is undone by the fact that he's 4 or 5 different guys and not even consistently, undercutting a sable rivalry.
