Where do you see indie animation headed in the coming years?
Will more shows sign deals with streamers or will they do something else?

It can't last on YouTube forever
My bet is that more will license their shows to Netflix and the like
Some may sign over the IP entirely
>>
>>155152328
Each indie studio is wanting to get too big.
If they dialed themselves back they could get a bit more out there in shorter time
>>
>>155152328
>Where do you see indie animation headed in the coming years?
More cult propaganda and capitulation, until the first-of-its-kind dysgenics program started in 2021 (with planning in 2019, at the latest) plummets the social order as well as the human population.
>>
>>155152384
Doesn't Zeurel get like 15k a month for this?
How much was he expecting?
>>
>>155152328
The endgame for all indie animators, whether they admit it or not, is to get picked up/backed by a big studio or network. It's fun to talk about how great going indie can be but the reality is that if you want good looking work, money has to be involved. Have you guys ever seen the short films made by famous creators before they got real shows? They're almost always crude looking and cheap. The shows that you all grew up with can only be efficiently made in a studio environment

Good morning
>>
>>155152411
The main objective of every indie studio should be building the pipeline that produces content at the rate the audience demands, at an acceptable quality using only the resources they alresdy have.
They made the whole cartoon rennaissance with 0 computers and half a dozen guys.
>>
>>155152550
Hazbin’s pilot was more expressive and creative than most of the show

What you actually get from the industry is things like the Ren and Stimpy reboot, adult cartoons with jokes like “Kanye West is RACIST” and whatever ailing beanmouth sludge still comes out of the pipeline, with a side of fake anime and the bare few exceptions
>>
>>155152656
>he mentioned ai. He must be indian
What do you think the secret is all tue big studios have that turns money into animations?
They contract out animation jobs to 3rd world countries like India. The "indian" animation is what gets put on tv.
>>
>>155152328
Pretty much, only Hazbin and Smiling Friends have been successful because they’ve worked with established studios, while Glitch is basically a small studio themselves. Everyone else is frankly delusional. They’re destroying their bodies just to release one episode every two years and their fans are delusional too if they think this pace is going to speed up. Yeah, mainstream animation is basically dying, but this is still just a smaller version of the same shit compared to a massive dumpster fire.
>>
>>155152694
Why are some anons so eager for AI to take over? What do you gain?
>>
>>155152675
What the indies hope for is a big check to soothe their self inflicted wounds of inadequacy.
If you want to devote your whole life to animating, the tools to produce quality animation at the level considered elite in the 90s and 80s are available and cheap for a single operator. They used to hire bored women to do cell painting. Because cell painting is easier than painting by numbers, but it takes forever. Now you can paint digitally. You don't need to photograph all your frames, it's digital. There is no pencil->ink step. It's digital. You don't have to render your animation to 50mm film and watch it on the studios movie screen just 5o see if it's all fucked up
Its digital.
>but digital looks bad
By choice. They choose to not add texture. They choose to interpolate. Just don't.
>>
>>155152550
>The endgame for all indie animators, whether they admit it or not, is to get picked up/backed by a big studio or network
Except they all pretty much get offered and they refuse them nine times out of ten because they don't want to compromise their "artistic integrity."
>>
>>155152783
That's literally only Flashgitz and that's because of patreon money
>>
>>155152730
Then how can we save the mainstream industry if indie can't replace it?

The entire point behind making an animated pilot and sticking it on YouTube is to be bought out by a big studio and turn it into a series.
If not that, then they want to be recruited by some big name animation team that gets a look at their work.

No one does it just to have shit on YouTube.
>>
>>155152759
The whole entertainment media industry is plagued by the same contagion. They have explicitely chosen to deny the problem and hope the individual leaders retire/die of old age before it all becomes unsustainable.
Ai provides an alternative to big budget hollywood that held a monopoly on rich media. We don't need them.

>>155152826

Sounds like a group of people who will sodomize me into making what they prefer
>>
>>155152759
It's not about what I gain, it's about what the liberal communists lose.
>>
>>155152826
>No one does it just to have shit on YouTube
I do
Mainly because I know that no studio is ever going to notice me kek
Also because I put my entire identity since childhood into being a cartoon creator and quitting now even at 30 would destroy me and I'd probably turn to drugs or something
>>
>>155152783
Aaaaand you would be full of shit. Everyone wants to be paid for their work and getting a lofty showrunner status from some big studio is the primary goal.
>>
>>155152826
They want to lull a Justin Bieber and convert online success into corporate success.
They dont realize bieber's online success story was invented as part of his early marketing. If you make a pilot and you put it in the hands of someone important to pass along. OR you get ignored. No amount of yt likes will twist the arm of a studio exec and force them to buy your series.
>>
>>155152328
Are we really getting "Indie animation is doomed!?" video essays already?
I thought that wouldn't happen until Glitch started feeling the affects of Digital Circus ending.
>>
>>155152759
Another victory against feminists who constantly push socialism and troon ideology on kids. Seeing them not only out of a job but their entire industry they spent their lives achieving being fucking destroyed is a net gain for all humanity.
>>
>>155152864
Based
Keep going.
Making cartoons is a reward in and of itself.
It would be nice to have cartooning be a career so some stinky job doesn't subtract hours from your life you could otherwise be spending animating.
Keep your eye on the prize. The goal is to live a life creating. Not to become a rich lay-about.
>>
>>155152384
So basically the only way indie can survive is to no longer be indie and sell out to big corporations like the two biggest Indies, Vivzie and Glitch, have been doing?
If true and this does happen then what an example for Indies they have been leading huh?
I wonder how many will follow. I wonder if there will be a new champion of indie animation.
>>
>>155152848
That's most industries these days. almost everything is in the hands of elderly 80 something Boomers who have completley lost their fucking minds about a decade ago and are a mix of terminally conspiracy theory and 24 hour news network addicted, and also in total denial that the economic system of 35 years ago no longer exists.

Pretty much everyone is waiting for the aging boomers to finally die the fuck off so we can have an actual functioning economy with businesses that don't run on conspiracy addled fucking crazy any more.
And they're taking too damn long.
>>
>>155152876
Statistically speaking even if this is true for the majority it's impossible to be true for everyone.
>>
>>155152881
Going even further back, they want to be Matt and Trey and somehow manage to grab the attention of George Clooney who sees their cartoon, convinces his big Hollywood friends it's great and they buy it, turning the animators into millionaires overnight.
>>
>>155152759
AI is a better collaborator than humans in this online community have ever been.
No overwrought oversocialized dykes trying to break you into a toiling slave for all their gay friends, just a rational agent who will receive your independent vision while being sweet without caring about things like your clout status or trends.
>>155152876
No faggot, you just start making the studio’s vision instead of your own.
>>
>>155152882
There is a [THING] id DOOMMMEEEDDD!!!!!@2!@!@! video on youtube almost every fucking day, and they are almost always fucking stupid and made up.

I saw a video how Wizarding World attractions in Universal are DOOMED!!! any day now a few days ago. and that was 100% wishful thinking since that place is filled to capacity every single fucking day, there is no way in hell that is doomed to fail any time soon.
>>
>>155152983
Sometimes I wonder just how you can be THAT level of fucking retarded yet still manage to string a complete sentence together....
>>
>>155153005
Quit jerking yourself off to trying to get new artists absorbed into the industry hivemind.
>>
>>155152911
Pretty much yeah.
Making a cartoon requires too much, even for the professionals. It takes too many people, takes so much time to do, takes a required level of skill to accomplish, and requires specialized tools/software to create. It was an expensive logistical nightmare all along and studios have been trying to figure out ways to lower the cost since the 1950s.

It's too expensive and requires a lot of skilled people to make anything of substance for it to be a totally independent thing.
>>
>>155153039
It requires a fucking pencil you absolute retarded retard corporate dick sucking faggot.
>>
>>155152983
Aren't ya ever tired of trying to sell people something they'll never buy?
>>155152992
People think they are now free from the fear mongering on cable news, but it all moved onto YouTube but even worse as now everyone can do it and only the most obnoxious get ahead on YouTube these days.
>>
>>155153067
It requires
>Animator that has to be good at what they are doing or else the whole thing looks like unwatchable shit since bad movement takes you out of the story
>Background artists
>Voice actors
>Writer since animators kind of suck at writing shit
>Foley sound and music since a quiet cartoon is awkward and weird to sit through
>Some means of making it all like lots and lots of paper then a camera to record it all or software and a computer to compile it all

And if it's 3D then you need
>Modelers both hard surface and soft
>Rigging artists, and they also have to not suck at it
>Very expensive recording software and a computer to use it on, phones are not cutting it here

Animating is a team effort or else you are just going to make some annoying boring shit no one will care about.
>>
>>155153025
No offence but aren't you trying to get new artists absorbed into the AI hivemind?
The very hivemind that the industry hivemind is is currently trying to feed off of?
>>155153039
Oh dude i understand.
I tried getting into animation so i know the struggle, especially when i am a story writer with average at best drawing skills.
I can't do everything obviously and i never managed to find a team to work with when it came to animation.
I hope for the best for those who have what it takes to make it.
>>
>>155153067
If you're trying to make a substantial animated project (over 1 min) it requires you to be good at
animation
Background design
Video and sound editing
Compositing if needed
Voice acting if you can't get anyone else
So many anons seem to underestimate just how much of a team effort animation is for some reason
>>
>>155153164
Oh, and of course, writing. Which is something people will bitch about if it isn't up to their standards
>>
>>155152759
Indians and Boomers are just obsessed with Ai.
>>
>>155152783
Or they get picked up for a pilot/proof-of-concept short and then the studio buttfucks them by sitting on it while also refusing to release the rights back to the creator so they can make it on their own or pitch it to another studio.

Case in point: Katie Rice's 'Camp Weedonwantcha'.

>>
>>155153164
It's also incredibly time consuming to accomplish. which is why studios were never fans of it (apart from being kiddy shit they do not care about)
You can go on location with a camera and some actors and film 20 minutes of a movie. Meanwhile 20 minutes of an animated thing takes months of work and about a dozen professionals. No one liked how slow the process is.

Indie animation can't survive by having the same production style as the big studios but with less money. New artist and creators need to try with different run times, limited or more experimental animation. The biggest problem is that most cartoon "fans" think Helluva and TADC are the norm in indie animation and not exceptional outliers. If you're a literally who and expect to have a full blown animated tv quality series free on youtube you'll just fail no matter how many followers you have on twitter or your faggot ass cartoon review channel.

If there is a Threat to indy animation it's YouTube's incredibly weird and nonsensical AI driven monitoring program that goes around demonetizing channels at complete random without giving any kind of a reason for it. And then the channel owners have to go through a series of more AI bots to pleade their case or ask questions on why the fuck they were demonetized.

Sometimes the process takes months and those guys really cannot go 6-8 months of disruption without an income to fight and argue with bots.
>>
>>155153355
Fun fact, Americans used to AWLAYS make shit by themselves. It's sort of how they founded and built a nation before jews came over and spread communism to idiots in college.
>>
>>155153269
Oh, now i'm not so happy as Netflix is simply trying to have a monopoly on indie animation like Amazon is, and Netflix doesn't even do a good job at animation, they're worse than Nickelodeon.
I feel bad for the creator now, not only will Netflix treat him and his show as badly as all of their other animation but i feel bad that he was in a position where he felt like he had to turn to Netflix.
Is Netflix even giving him any more benefits for him to better his show and create his vision? Honestly i doubt it...
>>
>>155153430
I want to know the nature of his contract. Netflix is known for supporting something for a few months then immediately dropping it. Will Zeurel be legally allowed to go back to youtube and make more Monkeywrench when that inevitably happens? Or will they maintain ownership forever after?
>>
>>155153430
They gave him money but apparently most of it just went to finishing episode 6 which makes me wonder just how little they payed him
>>
>>155153459
For now, it's a non exclusive contract. If Netflix backs out, it won't affect the show itself
>>
>>155153377
What are ya talking about?
Your ancestors needed the help of slave labor to get to where your country is.
Not to mention how animation specifically was always more than one person working on a cartoon.
But if that's your beliefs then please, by all means, prove it right and make an entire cartoon, at least 12 episodes, all by yourself.
They can even be 5 minute shorts.
Please, link to me your social media so i can follow your progress.

>>155153482
Well that's good.
>>155153468
Oof, that's a desperation i can't help but feel bad for.
Why does Glitch help him out? It's not like they don't know Monkey Wrench exists, they put it in their compilation talking about helping out indie animation, but that's all they did to help the show.
And it's not like they don't have the money to help out with all that Digital Circus money and merchandising. They're the biggest company in indie animation but they can't help at least partially fund or promote any smaller cartoon outside of a small clip in a compilation? Not even a social media post?
What? Am i wrong for questioning this?

What does the industry add besides bosses who don’t understand the medium and collect the profits, bad and failing production pipelines, and severely outdated formulas?

Groups of artists making animated projects funded by people who want to watch them is a self-sufficient arrangement. And it will only get easier with AI (despite the rage of established artists about it)
