Every word out of her mouth is more moronic than the last. She's nothing but a trope obsessed idiot who thinks an afternoon with TV Tropes makes some an expert and can't process any information unless it's through the window of pop culture. She has no sense of quality and is a constant culprit of pushing the fallacy of presentism on historical and classical works.

the whole point is that they're projecting modern views of homosexuality onto Achilles but then refusing to apply our modern concepts of morality and ethics onto him as well, since Achilles had done alot of things that would be considered reprehensible by our modern standards (owning female sex slaves, killing a defenseless trojan boy etc...)

And I really REALLY don't want to get into the greeks were gay thing, so I'll just say this:
We only have confirmation that a few greek city states (out of the hundreds of them that existed) engaged in specific forms of homosexuality (most notably pederasty, which isn't something the modern lgbt movement would want to publically associate themselves is it?). However, to make the extrapolation that the entirety of what we'd consider "Ancient Greece" to be "gay", and that the average greek back then would have been totally fine with it in all forms is completely retarded. You wouldn't claim that the U.S is a gay friendly paradise just because San Francisco exists would you?
>>
>>155197520
She's a nice pitslut
>>
>>155198090
>You wouldn't claim that the U.S is a gay friendly paradise just because San Francisco exists would you?
I would call the US a gay friendly paradise because it is legal, rarely stigmatized and, in some contexts, openly celebrated. Just like in Ancient Greece. Although Greece was actually more gay friendly because with them, it was much more institutional via the pederasty system like you said

Ancient Greece had laws against homosexual acts that makes the anti-gay laws we had in the past few decades seem tame in comparison.
Being 'Kinaidos' was a crime in Athens, the Athenians had more laws against the act and punishments involving it up to and including persona non grata REGARDLESS of stature than any other city state in the ancient world to the point if you were kinaidos and outside during a religious event/ceremony/holiday you could be killed with impunity. if you were convicted of being gay in Athens at its peak colonial power, you could be stripped of land, inheritance, rank, right to be in public a good deal of the year, denied advancement and the right to command men in war and there was even recorded cases of men losing their children for fear of what they might do to them.
Places like Pergamon and Thebes were consistently mocked and derided for their pro gay stances, One of the reasons we know so much about Sparta losing to Thebes is because Athens loved their rival being beaten by a bunch of gays who were 'lesser men' and went out of their way to document it because of it. Sparta used to kill pedophiles as well for the religious reason that sexual relations with their charge was considered betrayal to their gods and their oath to mentor the younger male.
Once again, you cannot frame homosexuality as something that was completely ubiquitous in ancient greece, so the "lol the greeks were gay" claim/punchline doesn't make any sense considering all the documented hostility towards it which contradicts the idea. Whether or not there's a documented confirmation of a guy sticking his dick in another guy's asshole in the entire span of ancient greece's history is not the point and never was.
>>
>>155198090
>the whole point is that they're projecting modern views of homosexuality onto Achilles but then refusing to apply our modern concepts of morality and ethics onto him as well
I'm guessing in the video she's guided by her female hormones saying "Wouldn't it be great if two men kissed and licked each other's cock?" and isn't actually discussing Achilles the person but Achilles the character she invented when she started the video.
I remember a recent history documentary (was actually a tourism show, presenters like free holidays to sunny places), some Anglosphere presenter went to Sicily and joined an archaeological dig on a classical culture which the dig was proving performed human sacrifices on babies. For some reason he tried to say it's not very clear, and that only later Romans vilified the culture, openly saying as much to an archaeologist who turned around and said "No", with him folding immediately and meekly agreeing, and for some reason they didn't redo the take with him saying the considered to be factual line, like he didn't want the archaeologists to be right but also had so little charisma he couldn't force his view through by cunningly not keeping the footage with the historians. It was fucking weird. Maybe the camera crew and editor didn't like him being a baby sacrifice apologist so refused to play ball.
>which isn't something the modern lgbt movement would want to publically associate themselves is it?
Too many of the modern ones hear "Cretins were gay..." and go "You go qweeen! Yaaaaaas" and don't stick around for the "... because they fucked children and everyone from the mainland Greeks to the Romans were appalled by this"
>>
>>155198395
the thing about ancient greece is, depending on the time, place, and what god you worshipped, they had EVERY unhealthy sexual extreme. Full male domination, full female domination. orgies like crazy, total celibacy... and we need to start seeing all of those for the equally bad problems they are.
>>
>>155198395

All the primary sources we have about Sparta came from non-spartan writers so all the info we have about them must be treated with some degree of skepticism since there's alot of room for bias. But Xenophon had the closest firsthand experience to Sparta and he says that the relationships between men and boys weren't sexual in nature and treated that as ideal.

You both seem unfamiliar with the Illiad. Achilles refusal to participate in battle is over Agememnon taking one of his female war prizes. His homosexual relationship with Patroclus isn't really in the text and is much closer to headcannon.
>>
For all the effort she does with her analysis, she rarely actually digs from anything but children’s cartoons or anime from when she grew up.

With all the talk she makes about ATLA, is it a surprise that her comic is just Avatar with extra steps. Her art isn’t even that good when she actually puts the time into it. I’d much rather have McCloud give his thoughts on tropes, since I know Buddy has at least read more than the base requires for an English degree.

Still Red need to get married while she has the chance. The fact she let blue get away is a crime.

The problem with the way TV Tropes uses "trope" is that to them, it's a recurring pattern that appears in media. Nevermind there are words like archetype, motif, or theme. Also, they way they use tropes is hyper specific. An example of one Trans Audience Interpretation which is spin off trope of Alternate Character interpretation. It's getting to the of "why"?

TV Tropes is just a way for idiots to add what they're a fan of to another list. Just look at how many SUBVERSION entries there are when something doesn't use a trope.

And behind all that was a systematic population collapse. Because the government made promises - to men - that it couldn't fulfill. It only took a generation and a half to realize, even if they got something (after stripping it from someone else) it would never be enough. Too little too late.

The only way you can conclude that is if you don't understand the early years of western study of gorillas.
Not only did westerners largely believe they weren't real for a long time, but local tribes specifically had legends about them kidnapping women and children in the night, which contributed to westerners just believing they were generic boogieman folklore.
When they actually got confirmed as being real, a lot of these stories would get taken more seriously, and Gorillas were considered violent, aggressive, potential man-eaters all the way until the 50s.
If anything King Kong is about how there might be more to these creatures than we think.

>Sparta used to kill pedophiles as well for the religious reason that sexual relations with their charge was considered betrayal to their gods and their oath to mentor the younger male.
That one we don't know if its accurate or not. Pretty sure its from the same guy who said the spartans had state enforced cuckolding, while others said the spartans practiced pederasty. Big issue is we have 0 spartan sources cause spartans couldnt write. Or read. Or farm. Or build anything past a mud hut. We got like four guys who write about sparta and none of them are spartan.
The entire city state ends up being more of a projection than anything clear, because theyre functionally just a african tribe except two fags jerked them off possibly due to a fetish for muscular men.

Nowadays enough people know how retarded youtubers are that you can openly call anyone that says this garbage out for being a tard that regurgitates what hacks on youtube tell them, but this shit was fucking insufferable for the longest time. There is no faster way to find out if someone talking about Greek myths is a grifter pushing an agenda than if they start saying the Rape of Persephone is a love story or was in any way supported as legitimate by anything but the most fringe of tribals (and even that's giving them too much credit).

I can see every time Blue put forward even the inkling of a hint at a relationship, she starts telling everyone she's asexual. Maybe she is, maybe she doesn't want to risk losing the friendship, maybe she was being tsundere. But because Blue is a bit dense and would tell everyone that Red told him that she's asexual, she has to commit. So Blue finds his wife and Red is stuck in a hell of her own making. I'm sure she'll do a trope video on that one day soon.

No the state enforced cuckolding is from Xenophon
>He noticed, too, that, during the time immediately succeeding marriage, it was usual elsewhere for the husband to have unlimited intercourse with his wife. The rule that he adopted was the opposite of this: for he laid it down that the husband should be ashamed to be seen entering his wife's room or leaving it. With this restriction on intercourse the desire of the one for the other must necessarily be increased, and their offspring was bound to be more vigorous than if they were surfeited with one another. In addition to this, he withdrew from men the right to take a wife whenever they chose, and insisted on their marrying in the prime of their manhood, believing that this too promoted the production of fine children. It might happen, however, that an old man had a young wife; and he observed that old men keep a very jealous watch over their young wives. To meet these cases he instituted an entirely different system by requiring the elderly husband to introduce into his house some man whose physical and moral qualities he admired, in order to beget children. On the other hand, in case a man did not want to cohabit with his wife and nevertheless desired children of whom he could be proud, he made it lawful for him to choose a woman who was the mother of a fine family and of high birth, and if he obtained her husband's consent, to make her the mother of his children.
Is it accurate? We don't know, dude was a athenian who was exiled from athens and went to sparta and seethed about athens. Good luck trying to find anything useful.

The Greeks had a different set of taboos. Homosexual sex between free men was supposed to be intercrural - penetration was for women, prostitutes and slaves, i.e. lessers. Topping was fine so by that logic gods can fuck anyone they want I guess.

I feel like it's probably been around as long as LotR has been popular, the question is that racists start it or did antiracists who assumed old white guy must be racist start it? Because you'd be an idiot not to see that there's obviously people who liken Orcs to blacks but it's like saying God made rats to be a dogwhistle for jews.
>>
>>155234429
It would be Asians not Blacks if someone were arguing in good faith that Tolkien was racist. Which he wasn't beyond the standard of his time. Orcs talk like Tommy Atkins, only an American would associate them with black stereotypes.
>>
>>155234429
If you are talking about modern discourse it was the former only to be made worse by the latter.

Basically racists use orcs as an analog to their detested demographic meant to illustrate their fears by using a universal archetype for chaotic evil. Wokesters put the cart before the horse and assumed racists were equating orcs with blacks because having a designated evil race leads to people think there are actual evil races in real life and not simply utilizing cultural Canon for communication
>>
>>155210798

animation reviewers on yt in general seem to fall under some mix of politicsbrained, pretentious, and terminal autistic fixation/justice sensitivity that renders them pretty hard to watch
it's weird in that while other art forms are plagued with similar issues or their own more particular cases, they have some more level headed people out there, but I've yet to find a cartoon reviewer that isn't someone that caters to the annoying pc crowd or one that's on the spectrum enough that their material is so odd and warped from their strange viewpoint or just plain hyperbolic (latter might be the worst desu, lot of hypebeasts and negative hypebeasts in cartoons, think like the fuckers proclaiming modern spongebob is so back after a meme face or fuel for gooner artists like the karen dancing thing some years ago
>>
>>155238075
It's like on the one hand, I do believe there is deeper discussion to be had regarding the medium, but on the other, there fucks are so desperate for any kind of validation of their hobby and interests that they try to force it on things that don't really deserve it. We can't have a more philosophical debate on this when they only want to hype of things they already like.
>>
>>155213985
>we have 0 spartan sources cause spartans couldnt write. Or read. Or farm. Or build anything past a mud hut
We have no Spartan sources because the Spartans were autistically paranoid and literally didn't allow their citizens to write anything about Sparta or how it functioned for fear others would use that information to attack it. We know there were plenty of esteemed Spartan poets but their work hasn't survived.
>>
>>155235321
Define authors. Because i only seen this discourse with memes and other little skits rather than full narratives. Namely Sargon of Akkad parodying the i flux of immigrants being a good thing by framing the orcs invasion of border or whatever as a similar good thing.

Orc as a staple fantasy race was long established by then.
>>
>>155238056
Oh well aware. Fantasy proms tactical wheelchairs and Mexican orcs.
>>
>>155238286
The poetry doesn't survive not because of the paranoia but because nobody made enough copies, probably because it wasn't very good by wider Greek standards. Sparta was culturally impoverished.
>>
>>155238957
Sargon of Akkad is a 24th century Sumerian. If you mean some whiny modern racist I don't think he can be of Akkad, since it's been gone for thousands of years.

I understand Shakespeare is quite popular.

It doesn't really matter which classics they teach, because there are too many of them to cover and the point is not actually to give students a grounding in classical literature, it's to teach critical analysis. Homer is actually not the best fit for that, arguably.
