Am I their only fan
>>
>>155215659
Maybe. I wouldn't read this.
>>
>>155215675
That doesn't mean much, you've probably never read a comic.

They're cool, though I prefer these guys. It's a shame they're all going to get used as villains for the foreseeable future because of IRL events.
>>
>>155215699
You mean Russia trying to liberate the part of the country that democratically voted to be apart of Russia and was then under military occupation by Ukraine since 2012?
>>
>>155215659
Yelena looked real nice in that more recent Winter Guard run where she teamed up with the original Red Guardian

I've been reading comics for 20 years.

Sure you have anon.

That reminds me i have to look up new new drone vids of Russians being turned into meat confetti and masturbate.

It is amusing how the people that basically do that, try to put themselves up as the morally righteous individual.

I like crimson dynamo.
Question what do you recommend to read from them?
>>
>>155215796
Why would I lie?

That's a good question. Why are you lying about reading comics?

Winter Guard 2021

Perun has melties when ya mistake him for Thor

This run was weird since it was constantly showing off every new Avengers team like Stone Age Avengers, Russia Avengers, Underwater Avengers...and never did shit with any of them at all.

Don't forget the Ukrainians attacked Russia first sparking the whole war in the first place. After promising to genocide the ethnic Russian population of Ukraine.

We need to see the Winter Guard fighting against The Americans in the euroasian no man's land.

No plot just they beating the shit out against each other.

Jesus christ I sometimes forget how fucking ugly his art can get. There wasn't even an attempt to make the engineer not look like a tranny.

Russian superheroes probably have the second biggest "archetype support" at Marvel. The path to success is to jump ship and hang out with Americans though.
>>
>>155215659
Doesn't Red Guardian 2 aka Vanguard have different powers then Red Guardian 1? Who was basically just Captain America but Russian

Frank Quietly is great.

Yes. Muties get a bunch of shit. And in the decades between them was another Red Guardian who was an athletic brain surgeon who had a rather dubious way of being written out, but got really powerful in the process.

I want Aaron's Perun to get used in a future Thor run once he Thor returns to a normal status quo.

I was pissed him and the Russian venom god were beaten by Thor off screen in Aaron's Avengers.

Technically he's red guardian 3 as brubaker killed off the heroic red guardian 2 in a throwaway bit in his first issue of Captain America
>>
>>155226142
There's a lot more Red Guardians than that. Thanks to early retcons, the first Red Guardian was Aleksey Lebedev, a WWII hero Marvel inserted into history in the early 90s, there's a later story where he led a whole team.

Because of that, Alexei Shostakov the 1960s Red Guardian is the second one, he died a hero at the end of his first story, then just showed up alive as a bad guy in Bendis' Daredevil and some later stories until MCU synergy made them stop writing him as a villain.

After that, there was Tania Belinsky, the female Red Guardian introduced in Defenders, who got turned into the radioactive superhuman Starlight and was enslaved by The Presence for years.

Then there was a lifelike android duplicate of Shostakov who appeared in a Black Widow GN and got counted towards the numbering of Red Guardians.

The fifth Red Guardian was Josef Petkus, through the late 80s and 90s, on the Supreme Soviets, later rebranded the People's Protectorate. He later became the Steel Guardian when the team became the Winter Guard, and was apparently killed by Dire Wraiths in Limbo.

The Steel Guardian rebranding probably happened because someone had introduced a new Red Guardian in another book, this was Krassno Granitsky, and he was the guy who got killed at the start of Brubaker's Captain America.

The new Winter Guard team that first appeared in Loeb's Hulk run had a new Red Guardian, eventually revealed to a man named Anton whose mind had been transferred into a series of LMD bodies. It was heavily implied that he was Anton Vanko, the original Crimson Dynamo, but this hasn't been followed up since the Winter Guard mini in the early 2010s.

After all that, we get to Vanguard being the current Red Guardian, and a lot of writers seem to forget this and just write him as a shield-throwing guy with no other powers.

Fun fact: this special, along with the New Mutants Summer Special, the two issue Starjammers mini series, and a random Moon Knight/Shang Chi team up special, were create to run as serials in Marvel Comics Presents. They got turned into one shots when Marvel decided to make Ghost Rider 2 and Wolverine permanent anchored features for the book.

Is that true for the Eternals one shot that was out around the same time too? There's a later Inhumans special that looks like it was meant to have run as a serial in Marvel Comics Presents but MCP was cancelled instead.

Here's an unrelated pic of Tony fighting the Titanium Man.

As a slav, these guys are kinda funny. We generally take this sort of stereotypical "representation" in good humour. At the very least, it's colorful and not boring. We ironically call this sort of stereotypical portrayal "klyukva" (cranberry) based on a 19th century joke about an out-of-touch French writer who wrote that Russia has "branching cranberry forests", which was never a thing.
>>155225817
Fun fact: there are IRL schizos in Slavic countries who actually still worship Perun as an attempt to carry on the pagan legacy. It's very fringe but it exists. There are even occasional alt girls in universities who do it to look special.

Very based. Worshiping your ancestral deities as opposed to a desert one from the Middle East that has nothing to do with your people.

The thinking man's superheroine costume.
Naturally Marvel had to ruin it by retconning her into actually being a hideous alien disguised as a human.

If I had a dime for every Marvel character who got retconned by later writers into being an alien shapechanger or a clone, I'd have a lot of dimes.

The inhumans special was long rumored to be a planned MVP serial, until it came out that it was actually an inventory book that was supposed to be published in the mid 80s but got pulled from release due to low order numbers. IIRC details from it, especially relating to Medusa, were included in her and other Inhumans Marvel Handbook deluxe edition entries as the entries were written before it's original release got spiked.
>>
>>155230103
Fun fact: PAD set up a plotline thet Fantasma wasn't what she said she was and that her physical form was fake. But no one ever followed up on it.
>>
>>155229915
Do you consider Darkstar specifically "klyukva"? A few weeks ago, I was thinking that she seemed less of a national stereotype than most other international heroes at Marvel including her brother, but since I'm an American born in the 90s, I might be missing some cultural context.
>>
So what makes Vanguard different than other Red Guardians
>>
>>155233413
Cool powers
>>
>>155215766

>>
Is Darkstar still technically the original possessing the body of a Dire Wraith after it killed the replacement Darkstar and IIRC said Dire Wraith was Fantasia who had killed off most of the Winter Guard?

>>155232606
It was followed up on by her being a Dire Wraith.
>>
>>155234396
I don't remember, I need to reread WG 2021. All I recall is them fighting Dracula and trying to arrest Alexei.
>>
So are there any good, or any, non-American team ongoings from Marvel and DC besides Alpha Flight and I guess Excalibur?
>>
>>155232606
Using a one-off guest appearance you have no intent on following up on yourself to set up the plot that a character isn't what they seem is a real dick move. Setting up the idea that a beautiful sorceress' appearance is just an illusion and she's actually hideous is both a tired old trope AND a dick move. That the eventually follow-up to it made her a villain who betrayed the team was even more of a dick move.

I don't know what it is with comics writers where they see hot girls and they always want to turn them into whores, psychos or monsters.
>>

That's all women are. Whores, psychos, and monsters.

>>155215659
Ever see the live-action russian movie Guardians? It feels very much like they tried to do an end run around marvel although the only really similar character is the bear guy.
>>
>>155232572
I think you're talking about the Inhumans "Untold Story" special from about 1991, I meant the 1995 special, released not that long after MCP had been cancelled.
>>
>>155235316
I didn't know Russia had its own Hollywood
>>
They should honestly redesign Perun to be more Slavic because he literally looks like Thor and has been stated as such for the longest time.
>>
>>155235356
They've been making movies since the early days of the soviet union. Lot of /co/ material too. It's only since a little after the breakup they've been producing western-style slop though.
>>
>>155235391
Aren't they comparative mythology guys, but with Perun the chief god level thunderer like Zeus? Seems natural they would be similar.
>>
>>155235797
Yeah Perun is the Chief. Like Zeus is the King of Olympus. Whereas Odin is the one in charge of Norse stuff.
>>
>>155235391
I liked the designs for Perun and Chernobog and Vostok from Aaron Avengers >>155227144

Red Widow.. so.. mysterious.. and spooky.. perhaps even.. kooky..
