Saw the movie in my local theater and it had a decent showing. Not packed but more than I expected- which overall describes my thoughts on the movie. Went in expecting mid and left decently surprised.
Pros
>Coyote and Kevin (Will Forte character) dynamic is very solid
>Coyote in general is a very endearing protag
>Most of the jokes land
>Some decent cameo’s

Cons
>Extremely half assed ending
>A few of the slapstick moments lacked punch to them
>Some cameo’s (Specifically Bugs Bunny) feel very forced and made little sense beyond being added in as an obligation

7/10 film, not bad.

>>Some cameo’s (Specifically Bugs Bunny) feel very forced and made little sense beyond being added in as an obligation

Apparently there was some sort of embargo saying that Bugs and Daffy COULDN'T be in the movie, but then at some point that embargo was lifted and it sounds like they were kinda added last second. I remember an intial spoiler leak didn't have Bugs or Daffy at all.
>>
>>155223090
oh Warner.. you sabotage yourself like most people touch themselves
>>
>>155222904
I was surprised by the audience. It was a large group of 50 year olds, two separate 50 year olds, a woman in her 30s, and a group of teenagers.
It was the teenagers and the woman who enjoyed it most, surprisingly.
>>
>>155223090
I can see the logic of that. They're such big presences just in the scenes they're in, if they'd been in any more, I think there might've been a real risk of them stealing focus from Coyote.
>>
>>155223320
Yeah, I actually liked that TDTEBU was all about Porky and Daffy. I can see them wanting to do the same thing with CvA.
>>
>>155223373
Much as I want a new Bugs movie, because Bugs is my favorite, I agree. It is nice the last couple years to see some of the other Tunes get some real spotlight.
>>
>>155223090
Daffy's inclusion made sense and worked well.
Bug's inclusion activily hampered the plot and made a 8 out of 10 movie into a 7 by activily being a major plot hole.
>>
>>155223527
Yeah, the problem with Bugs is, by his very nature he makes everyone else beneath him. That's just the fynamic he shares with everyone else.

You know what could potentially make a good Bugs movie? Something with him and Lola. Something that puts them both on equal footing. Stick with them and like one bad guy, no globetrotting, could be fun.
>>
>>155223674
A movie starring Bugs and Lola would be nice particularly cause I think Lola's personality has been kinda all over the place between her major appearances. Space Jam, Looney Toons Show and Space Jam 2 all have very different approaches to her and her relationship with Bugs.

It'd be nice to have something that is primarily focused on those two characters and gives us a definitive version of how they relate to each other.
>>
>>155223788
Yeah. Looney Tunes Show is my favorite Lola, but she also only really works specifically in that setting. Making something with her and Bugs that can cement their dynamic would be a good move.
>>
>>155222904
>Extremely half assed ending
I honestly don't get why so many people share this opinion. It works fine. I would call it -mildly- half-assed at worst

The emotional climax of the movie was Kevin rediscovering passion for life through Coyote, and Coyote finding fulfillment in friends who admire his sysyphian quest, as well as receiving actual fucking acknowledgment from his rival. The movie made it very clear that by the time the trial ended winning was no longer the point, and they were happy just giving the Acme fucks some petty revenge slapstick.

I suppose people¿s actual problem is the Bugs ex machina that happens right after, which I totally understand, but again, by that point victory or defeat is secondary. The footage won't sink Acme, it's there so Kevin's firm and their clients can actually hurt Acme's wallet and make Foghorn and Cena lose sleep.
>>
Why the hell was Foghorn a villain?
Why the hell did Disney make Peter Pan an aged out actor villain based on his real life actor's awful life.
Stop doing this.
>>
>>155222904
Did you seriously expect the big corporation to lose?
>>
>>155224115
I mean

Can you name one heroic thing Foghorn's ever done? He's always been, at best, an obnoxious blowhard.
>>
>>155224130
Sometimes they used to write endings like that. But definitely not now.
>>
>>155224115
He was always an asshole out to save his own skin whether it was trying to direct the Chickenhawk into eating that dog or becoming a KFC spokesman selling out his species in the 1980s.
>>
>>155224115
Stop being a fag- it's no diffrent when Muppet's play diffrent characters.
>>
>>155224130
They did lose?
Bug's just gives everyone a happy ending- that's the half assed part.
>>
>>155224115
In true Looney Tunes spirit, a character can be semi-heroic one short and a total dipshit the next. His role this time was as a villain, that's it.

I'm more curious that that Ms Prissy and Egghead boss show up in the movie but have no relation whatsoever with Foghorn. Guess the fucker lost interest now that he has several vacation homes.
>>
If you asked me which Looney Toon was most likely to become a class traitor, Foghorn Leghorn would probably be in my top 3.

If anything, Daffy's probably pissed he didn't think of it first.
>>
The disrespect to my nigga Pepe Le Pew.
>>
>>155222904
It's a solid 7/10, would unironically be a 9/10 if all the characters were 2d animated like Bugs is.

Coyote Vs Acme is the only good- almost but not quite bordering on great- film.

Back in Action was mixed. Some great gags, some crap.

Only seen Space Jam and Coyote vs. ACME, but.

Space Jam:
>Favorite: Probably the Monstars. Those fuckers genuinely scared me when the movie came out. Also love their theme song.
>Least Favorite: Weirdly, probably Jordan? He's just kinda wooden and doesn't feel like he fits the role of being the straight man to the Toons as well as Forte, or just from clips I've seen, even Lebron.
Coyote vs. Acme:
>Favorite Are you coming back?
Least Favorite: Some of the 3D toons looked jarring. Coyote looked great, some like Foghorn and Fudd looked wack.

Bugs' inclusion was really weird to me. Like they make it a point that the scientist had been missing for 30 fucking years and Bugs just comes in and fixes everything off screen.

Like.
Why the fuck did you wait?
>>
>>155226800
Simplest explanation I can think of is that by the time the doctor got captured ACME had already grown too big for any sane lawyer or firm to try to challenge them beyond petty settlements, without fear of being bought or disappeared for their troubles. The evidence was a one time weapon that required both maximum public interest and people being willing to risk their neck with it, so Bugs sat on it until someone dumb enough to actually challenge ACME and made a spectacle of it appeared.

I imagine there are better ways, but I can follow that line of thinking.

Coyote in general was handled perfectly. Sympathetic and likable enough you're on his side at all times but doesn't hide the fact he's a scoundrel who is more Chaotic Neutrel rather then a perfect victim. Really well balanced overal and arguably his best depiction.

Yeah, I spent a good chunk of the movie wondering how they would keep Coyote a likable protagonist while still staying true to his character. If they just had him try to catch the Roadrunner again and fail and that's the joke, no moral, no development, I would've felt pretty cheated and if they just changed him to no longer want to catch the Roadrunner either, that would've also felt pretty weak.

What they wound up doing was perfect. They didn't betray either character, they just added a bit of additional context to their relationship.

I also really like that there was something you only figure out after the movie is over. Roadrunner said "Beep Beep" to the first subpoena Kevin left, which we later learn was him saying yes. He was immediately on board and he was always going to show up to help Coyote.
>>
As much as I enjoyed the film, I am a bit sad that I really don't have any other animated movies to watch in theaters.
Like, Wildwood could be good, and I saw a trailer for Forgotten Island before the movie started and thought it'll either suck like shit or be pretty good, nothing in between.
Got any plans for later this year?

Yeah, 7/10 is a fair score. I wouldn’t say the film is bad but it’s certainly not “95% critic score on RT” worthy. Honestly I thought The Day The Earth Blew Up was funnier, there were definitely good jokes in this movie but rarely anything worthy of laughing out loud.
>>155224281
This too. If cannot be overstated how much more interesting this movie would be to look at if it had the same level of animation Back in Action had. The animation of Looney Tunes is such a big component of its appeal, so when 80% of the animation is on the same level of the 2000 Rocky and Bullwinkle movie, I think it’s fair to expect better from a property and a studio that used to be known for quality animation. The CG just wasn’t that good, and it hurts the overall film.

That makes sense honestly, especially considering Bugs didn't deliver the tapes until AFTER the Congress hearing and multiple toons wanting to sue ACME feeling confident enough to crawl out of the woodwork. Bugs Ex Machina might seem ridiculous but honestly it's pretty in Bugs's nature to just have a silver bullet to the conflict he uses at the end imo
>>
>>155225511
What money does the film need to do to be considered a "success" either for WB or the current distributors?
>>
Bugs released the tapes right after the senate committee investigating ACME was dissolved. Senator Fudd looked like a fool for punting a case with such massive malfeasance at play and his political career never recovered. When asked about the timing of the release of the tapes, Bugs was quoted as saying "Ain't I a stinker?"
>>

WBD got 50 mil from Ketchup, their involvement is over. Ketchup needs it to make 50 mil plus whatever they paid for marketing and distribution. It's already headed for a pretty solid opening weekend and has excellent word of mouth, so it'll probably get there.

"Coyote vs. Acme" is keeping a close second to "Spider-man: Brand New Day":(I still don't get why that's so popular.) , with $5.3M at the boxoffice and $1482 per theater average.

The budget was $70 million, and Warner got $50 million for it.

I watched it this morning. I thought the thing with the video tapes was like "why didn't you do that before unless bugs had not acquired them until later but that was never really shown or implied. That was probably the biggest asspull of the movie but it wasn't offensively bad. Pretty solid overall, I don't see why they wanted to cancel it's release.

>>
>>155232169

OP here.
I went in expecting slop. I was decently surpised how it turned out.

It's not perfect, the people overhyping it are dead wrong from the awkward CGI effects to some plot holes. But the two core things it needed to get right:
>Comedy
>Main charcter dynamics
Were achieved very well.
It's the only mix media animation/live action film in years- since Roger Rabbit- that was actually good.
Not amazing. Not revolutionary. But good.
>>
>>155232760
I don't mind him as a villain or CEO at all. I think it's funny that this isn't the first time he's been depicted as such. What I do mind, is how bad the face on his model looks. Why did they separate his eyes so far like that? Every other character looks normal for the most part, except for him. It looks really weird and makes him look out of place with all the other much better modeled characters, especially set next to Wile E. The only time in the film he looked right was when they went off model for the slapstick bit towards the end.
>>
>>155233160
Sony owns the film rights to spider-man and it’s the only reason it’s a successful studio right now

>It's the only mix media animation/live action film in years- since Roger Rabbit- that was actually good.
I was with you until here.

I would hate for the film industry to turn on cartoons anymore than it already has, hopefully this doing well will convince them otherwise, if it does.

Also,
Oh my god, that reminds me. In the previews I learned about that new tom and jerry movie theyre doing and the china pandering is soooooooo fucking hard and blatant like wtf is this fanfic shit lmao. I know they're super popular over there but I think the human characters lips are even synced to chinese instead of english, the lips did not match at all what they were saying. I was floored at how boring that looked. When are Tom and Jerry gonna get a good studio behind them again?
>>
>>155233234
well are you gonna share what you think was good? because space jam 2, tom and jerry, and chip and dale were all pretty bad
>>
>>155233269
Back in action was solid, it was just held back by being a bit too goofy. But it looked solid and Joe Dante is the perfect director for this sort of thing
>>
>>155233269
>>155233288
This. Honorable mention goes to Rocky and Bullwinkle despite the early CGI if only for trying to get the tone of the original.
>>
>>155233288
>a bit too goofy
Is this really a bad thing for a Looney Tunes movie though? I liked back in action a lot as a kid. I thought it was fun.
>>
>>155232395
Speaking about Harry Potter in a public setting keeps it in the mainstream. For all of Rowling's revenue to be cut, you must eliminate HP from public consciousness. That means no bootleg HP merch, no HP fanart or fan fiction, no letting your 8 year old dress as HP for Halloween, no promoting it by carrying an HP cup.

it's totally irrational
>>
>>155233288
OP here.
Back in Action had some good gags like "We ran out of gas!" and the Art Museum but it mostly sucked.
>>155233313

Harry Potter apparently has a 25th anniversary rerelease marathon but my entire county is under a film monopoly (has been for 100 years) and they didn't want to pay the license for it so I just cannot watch the movies on the big screen.
>>
>>155228303
why would you broadcast this at all
>>
>>155233266
It's a Chinese made movie that came out there last year.
I'm honestly surprised they're doing a theatrical release here, because it's so blatantly not made for us. I can only suspect that they're dumping it on Coyote vs. Acme's second week to thumb their noses at it.
>>
>>155233212
Eh, I don't think he got the worst of it. Peter Lorre and Elmer Fudd looked worse to me.
Hell, any of these models don't hold up to scrutiny in closeup shots at all.
Foghorn's problem is that he's so fucking big that he necessitates taking up a lot of screen space, and you can really focus in on the aspects of his model that don't look right.
>>
>>155233288
The only thing that prevents Back in Action from being 100% kino was Joe Dante having to fight off studio executives every step of the way and explain to them why their ideas like having Bugs Bunny rap were shit.
>>
I really enjoyed the movie, but holy fuck i dont know what was playing next door, but this earrape sound design where action films have to have this constant bass bullshit rattling the whole building was awful.

The best part of the movie was how well they nailed the slapstick, and forte did a really good job even though I don't normally like his acting

I just want more enjoyable films about cartoons I like. For whatever the comparison is worth, I did think Day the Earth Blew Up was consistently funnier than CvA
>>
why was bugs the only one who was traditionally animated?
>>
>>155234768
Probably because he was a very late addition to the movie. There was an embargo on including Bugs and Daffy for most of the production cycle. Maybe the 3D modellers/animators weren't on the project anymore when they got the okay to include him.
>>
>>155234857
that sounds about right, also, the 3d cartoon animal characters at the end looked noticeably worse than the rest of the characters. I guess those were added late as well because they were not great
>>
>wife out one night
>watch Roger Rabbit with my kid
>kid wants more "rabbit"
>we watch Looney Tunes together every morning
>go to CvA, first movie together
>we loved it, audience loved it
>audience even laughed at my kid laughing
Anyway other than the ugly models (wtf granny) we had a lot of fun
>>
Is just me or the movie has a lot of Coyote paws fanservice?
>>
>>155234857
Well then if it's that easy then why didn't they just make *all* the Looney Tunes characters 2d animated? It would have looked better than what they did
>>
>>155234857
>he was very late addition to the movie
This actually kinda makes sense because the car that was chasing them just appears and go away without any reason at all at the end of that scene
>>
>>155222904
I usually don't do this but I'm willing to see it again just to support the movie. I really want it to be a success. I did really enjoy it. It made me laugh and feel. I had to pee and didn't want to go to the bathroom because I was being thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
>>
>>155226937
You are mixing him with Ralph, Willie can't speak and is yet to officially speak a word in any of the road runner shorts (unless you count that weird crossover episode between him and bugs bunny) but outside of that even modern media threats him as a mute and stick him to the gag to only comunicating using signals.
>>
>>155226937

>>
>>155235427
No which I think does work for the best for the story they wanted to tell.
Wile E. when given vocal roles is often potrayed much more obnoxiously smug as a satire of your MENSA types.

Not having him talk still allowed him to be devious and smug but still oddly relatable. You kinda get to project a lot of the emotion back to him.
>>
>>155222904
Maybe hot take but I think this movie would have been better if the other Looney Tunes were in it much less or maybe even not at all. You really only need Wile E. and Road Runner for the plot and I think it's just funnier if Wile E. is the sole "cartoon" in an otherwise normal seeming world

>no Sam and Ralph

Anyway I hope the movie makes a respectable amount of money.
>>
Just saw it, loved it. A few key differences I saw from a leaked synopsis when the film was looking like it'd be canned.

Dr. Lorre was a MUCH bigger part of the film originally. He was the voice on the phone, impersonating Bugs. It was an intentional misdirect.
Originally, Buddy Crane and Foghorn were stated to be in a cushy, minimum security prison serving their sentence. There was a photo of them golfing in prison at some point.

Those were the big differences I remember.
>>
>>155235724
>Replace Ralph as the whistleblower instead of Bug's
>Kevin surprised by Ralph thinks- and exclaims out loud- that Coyote had a twin brother this whole time
>Coyote and Ralph look at him confused as they have no relation with each other
>Kevin awkwardly explains the two really look similiar
>Ralph asks if he thinks all cartoon canine's are related to each other
>Paige chastizes Kevin for being a Toon Racist
Some joke ideas.

JK Rowling is literally Hitler for trannies, and supporting her in any fashion is seen as an attack against trans people.

I haven't seen CvA yet, but:

TDTEBU > BiA >>>>>>>>>> Space Jam >>>>>> Space Jam 2

Both Space Jams were ass, but the first one at least looked good in terms of the way the hand drawn characters were animated and how they interacted with the IRL setting. Space Jam 2 was even worse and it's hypocritical how they removed Pepe le Pew for being "problematic" but have characters like Alex from Clockwerk Orange (an actual rapist) in there or even the nun from fucking Devils of all things (a character that committed blasphemous sex acts in a film where almost every character was a hypocritical degenerate).

Ended up really enjoying it. Wile E worked far better than I thought he would as the main character; his very nature of being an unhinged agent of chaos made him a perfect contrast to the lazy, but otherwise law abiding cast. Just the idea of a mute main character is in and of itself an impressive feat for a film to pull off, but to give him so much character on top of that really elevates the whole thing.

That being said, you can tell the 3D models weren't supposed to be part of the final product. There was just as much 2D footage as there was CGI, and it felt a bit jarring. Either their budget was shoestring or Zaslav canning the film fucked up the post production, but either way that was an obvious bit of sabotage. Were it able to go full Back in Action and have it be wholly 2D animated this would a near perfect Looney Tunes film. As is it's still really great and worth watching.

from the start i was having the sensation that his intention was to bring roadrunner somewhere put only for him to catch it. while that was the plot twist i really like that there was no deep meaningful motive for him to chase him specifically, he just wants to

People always use this rhetoric when a company mistreats a show or movie but it's really not that common for it to be about the actual quality of the movie or percieving it to be a failure. With all the constant shit that does come out, you'd think people would realize companies do NOT have the self-awareness to see garbage and think "we can't release this."

The industry was dying and they essentially just found a get rich quick scheme to do tax writeoffs. It's just that it happens that most shit hollywood makes is garbage so the shit getting wrote off was par for the course bad (like the Scoob Holiday Haunt thing) but it wasn't because they knew it.

I feel like the only reason anyone says stuff like this is just to be a faggot.
Pretending it’s a good system for a company to be able to make an entire finished film and then just not release it to get tens of millions back from the government just makes you look stupid.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if a film studio writes off a completed film, it and all of its materials should enter the public domain. Then everyone gets what they want.
>>
>>155238977
My buddy my guy, my entire stance on this whole saga is CvA was a silly hill to die on.
But every bought into this film not being just another lukewarm Guy and CGI in a car movie, this a piece of art being saved. It's being brought out to the people. and you brought out a movie that's was going to be forgotten about 2 weeks in if it came out without this whole shit surrounding it. Now it's going to be forgotten about 3 weeks in with the minor asterix of "This film got saved!" on it.

This entire saga has play itself into saving a mid film and has been coping about it since.

It's not a hill to die on just because you disagree with the general sentiment around the film. Also 2/3 weeks is a really safe bet considering that's when a lot of films get shuffled out and the new hotness comes out anyways. Try betting next 4 days instead and maybe then I'll take you seriously. People are enjoying it for merits beyond it almost being unseen, I know in your heart of hearts that you REALLY don't want to accept that but it's true. Box office data says you're gay, end of story.

It would have been funny to me if Wile E. spoke perfectly normally when they met with Bugs, and as soon as he leaves, Kevin goes "I didn't know you could talk."

I'll do one better and rank it on live action-hybrids.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit>Coyote Vs. Acme>>>Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers> Cool World> Back in Action> Space Jam>>>>>Space Jam 2.

The only thing holding CvA back from being as good as WFRR is the cel shaded toons, it's literally that good.

CDRR is mostly good, but held back by, again, cel shaded toons and the baffling decision to have Gadget fuck a fly. But more solid and funny than it gets credit for here.

Cool World is mostly boring but Lonette and Holli are hot and the spider guy is a fun character.

Back in Action is just kinda boring in general. Some funny gags but no TnA.

Space Jam had some decent animation.

Space Jam 2... Christ, what a shitshow. The absolute best I can say about it is some animation looked good.

I really enjoyed it.
Honestly really impressive what they made of it considering it's Warner Bro's table scraps.
Also it very much feels like a spiritual successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit (albeit on a much smaller budget relatively).
The entire movie was incredibly earnest and you could feel the appreciation for the characters and the medium of cartoons as a whole. I do agree the ending was a bit rushed and the cgi is a bit obvious at times, but I really liked the majority of the film, finding myself as sad as I was durning the hotel scene was not something I was expecting, Will forte does an incredibly good job of acting and reacting to coyote and feels a lot more in depth than the usual phoned in performances most people give when talking to foam stand-ins for animated characters.

WFRR is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I think the secret sauce that makes CvA work well in comparison to the other hybrids, and why people keep comparing it to WFRR, is the human side of the story is played straight. BiA tried to make the humans cartoony and it just didn't work. It's the contrast that works.

Foghorn generally was the anti-hero/ heel in a lot of his shorts. So it makes sense he wouldnt see the issue with the shit he does at ACME.
I thought it was kinda genius for them to have the whole Project Sisyphus tie into why Foghorn doesnt care that it can be seen as unethical. The whole reason Sisyphus was forced to push the boulder was because he kept cheating death; something toons just naturally do. So to Foghorn - he kinda justifiably sees nothing wrong with exploiting that natural characteristic. Of course disbarring the fact we see that it fucked up Daffy and the other toons.
>>155228411
I feel Bugs knew that he could've very easily buried ACME alive by leaking the taps himself. But Bugs in classic ruling - cant fuck with someone unless they have messed with him three times.
First strike was ACME breaking Daffy.
Second strike was them rudely trying to run him over while giving the info.
Third strike was Foghorn justifying the shit with Project Sisyphus in court and getting off free.
