It was the Disney property that was for boys at the time.

Which is funny because Mulan had better and more action, as well as better bromances.

Where's my Mulan animated series, Disney?

It was a really fun movie with great visuals, every single song being solid to the point that one of them blew up and became a standalone radio hit, and memorable characters and a setting that could be taken in practically any direction they wanted. There's really not much of a mystery to it OP.

Aladdin.
Aladdin: The return of Jaffar.
Aladdin and the King of thieves.

Mind you the second and third movies were more written as an intro and a conclusion to the animated series rather than actual sequels to the first one (which might explain why they are actually better than most animated direct-to-video sequels of that era).
>>
>>155225108
The series was great, fun adventures with interesting new characters. Disney never came close to this again, maybe a little with the Tangled series but that's about it.
>>
>>155225108
1st movie is extremely good.
2nd movie was alright but was really more an intro for its series, which was very well done.
3rd Movie was a very well done series finale that wrapped pretty much everything up.

Characters were very well done and written. Aladdin was a cool and very likeable MC, extremely well done and entertaining. Jasmine was dangerously based and absolutely the best disney princess to this day. Genie was Robin Williams being Robin Williams then Dan Castellaneta being Homer with some Robin Williams. Abu was funny monke with kickass design who was giga brotier. Carpet was a fucking carpet that had more personality than most shit written nowadays despite never actually talking. Iago was Gilbert Gottfried being Gilbert Gottfried.
>>
>>155229179
What about Jafar?
>>
>>155225108
Short answer? Eisner.
Corporate restructuring in the late 80s and early 90s meant finding ways to stretch budgets from IP, so if Eisner even got a whiff of success they'd franchise and merchandise the FUCK out of a brand. Extra capital that should go to reinvestment, instead went to company stock shareholders. A practice that continued until Iger realized it wasn't sustainable for long-term growth, let alone absorbing other old properties for a quick turnover. Like eating all the fruit from a tree and forgetting to replant seeds.

>>155225108
Aladdin was popular but let's not forget that Disney was makes shows and direct-to-video sequels from fucking everything back then.
>Bambi: sequel
>Cinderella: 2 sequels
>Peter Pan: sequel
>Lady and the Tramp: sequel
>101 Dalmatians: sequel, show, and two live-action remakes (back when they were rare)
>The Jungle Book: sequel and a spin-off show
>The Fox and the Hound: sequel
>The Little Mermaid: 2 sequels and a show
>Beauty and the Beast: 2 sequels
>The Lion King: sequel and a spin-off show
>Pocahontas: sequel
>Hunchback of Notre Dame: sequel
>Hercules: show
>Mulan: sequel
>Tarzan: sequel and a show
>Emperor's New Groove: sequel and a show
>Lilo & Stitch: 3 sequels, a show, and an anime
>Brother Bear: sequel
>a bunch of other shows and movies spun-off from Disney characters
>>

>why was Aladdin so big in the 90s?
1. The movie was a big hit.
2. Jasmine.
3. That song was a big hit.
4. The animated series was better than expected and had some cool villains.
5. The follow-up movies brought about some good closure for the series.
6. A bit of a stretch, but perhaps some boys self-inserted themselves as Aladdin. He did go from being a street rat below the poverty line to landing a princess, after all.
>>
>>155225108
>Raiders of the Lost Shark
>The Sands of Time
>When Chaos Comes Calling
One of these is the best episode, but I can't make up my mind on which.
>>
>>155229077
I assume you are only counting animated shows based on films because Gargoyles is also very good.
Emperor's New School I remember being good too but it's not adventure it's comedy.
I never watched Buzz Lightyear of Star Command but I think people generally remember it fondly too.
>>
>>155232778
Agree but also
>Genie was Iconic and it was at the high of Robin Williams career.
>Had a top tier Disney Princess but wasn't a Disney Princess movie that turn away the male demographic.
>>
>>155232778
7. This brought up a valid point about Aladdin being a rare component male character in a Disney movie. >>155232596
8. Jafar. At least Disney villains were unironically in a better spot back then. Both entertaining and rotten to the core.
9. And this brings up a good point. >>155230272
>>
>>155225108

Mulan felt like it was more targeted for girls and Eddie murphy sidekick was a chineese bootleg genie.
>>
Someone should make a "the Virgin Thief and the Cobbler vs The Chad Aladdin" image if it doesn't exist yet.
>>
What does Aladdin mean?
>>
>>155225108
Wasn't the voice actor of aladin a character in full house?
>>
>>155231755
Didn't even know about some of these. Direct to video's a hell of a drug.
>>
>>155231755
After having watched both Moana 2, Zootopia 2 and recently Toy Story 5 these direct-to-video sequels had of course lot less production value but where in some cases better movies.

I also didn't know Beauty and the Beast had two sequels.
>>
>>155237874
Zootopia 2 is shit, hated that shitty diversity multiculturalism agenda the movie had. That's what the entire Zootopia franchise is all about and anyone who likes it deserves to be killed by Non Whites.
>>
>>155225108

Aladdin is highly satanic because it promotes the false religion of Islam

They are more like midquels, really.
