Everyone keeps saying Jean went too far in this movie, but if you watch any other X Men media she always struggles with morality. Interesting choice to have both Peter and Jean go through "evolution". The MCU seems to reason that even though Peter is not a mutant, he functions like one in most of the ways that matter. The comic lore is that Peter is a totem given mystical physical abilities that aesthetically match a Spider, but the movie is going with the sci-fi approach that his DNA is literally that of an actual Spider and his body will go through the evolutionary stages of a Spider. We normally get this stuff with X-men.
