Will he try to get the rights back too? I don’t think Paramount even wants those characters anymore.
>>155236402R&S were some side-characters to "Our Gang", I doubt John K cares since he fully owns George Liquor.
>>155236418But R&S is what made him famous, not George.
>>155236402It depends on what kind of deal it was. If it was work-for-hire then he can't.
>>155236418This is what happens after 5 years of bussy chasing on animation discords
>>155236438Yeah, but Geroge is the character John K himself has been trying to push for decades.
>>155236402MF is 70 right now. If in the unlikely shot he does claim them back - he's basically assuring they'll just be orphaned works once he croaks. I doubt he'll even do much with them outside of some shitty made to order merch or something. Basically the Ken Penders route.Should he still try to get them back? Sure. That'll be a fun arc. If nothing else it'll give us some more fuel for the schizos.
>>155236469B/c he didn’t have a choice. Imagine how much he’d have milked R&S if he owned them.
>>155236402Depends on if Ren and Stimpy is considered "work for hire"Judge actually has a shot due to B&B appearing first in Frog Baseball. That said, John probably doesn't care that much and would rather try to make more George, Jimmy, and Sody content
>>155236483>John makes some demonic, badly tweened flash cartoons with R&SWould it be worth it? Hell, like with Billy West, John can no longer do the Ren voice either. Sounded like a chain smoking rapist in that one scrapped SpongeBob short in 2015
>>155236442Big City Blues was produced by Nickelodeon and not independently, so Ren and Stimpy doesn't fall under this clause
>>155236504link to the short?
>>155238308Was never finished but there's thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ddWgtabp1I
>>155236489Ren and Stimpy are fairly simple archetypal characters, if John wanted to make something like them again, he simply would have. Kinda like how Walt moved on to Mickey after losing Oswald. The truth of the matter is that George Liquor IS what John is all about. I don’t even say it disparagingly, it’s quite evident that George was what he considered his life’s greatest work, and he really wanted him to take off and be popular. That isn’t to say he didn’t have other ideas, but his other ideas were out of necessity in order to keep his studio afloat. Networks weren’t interested in George, so that’s why he pitched Ripping Friends, He-Hog, Wally Man, and the others. Ren and Stimpy was primarily pitched as a show about George at first, but the Nick execs requested he focus all-in on the cat and dog characters instead. It says a lot to me that John was so adamant about keeping the rights to George, like he absolutely could not afford to lose him. I’ve seen a lot of people criticize George’s “other ideas” as being uninspired or even bad, and I think the real reason is that he didn’t want to get too attached to any other ideas than George. Obviously John is proud of his work on Ren and Stimpy, but I don’t think he’s that attached to the characters themselves.
>>155236483I was gonna type out a post like this but yeah he's obviously getting up there in age. Did anyone ever commission him on this board...? It's hard to imagine how active he is at his seventies.
>>155237068if they can make a season without his involvement, he likely doesn't own the rights, or have enough sway as a producer to be able to convince them to let him work on it>>155236402what would be the point? if the company that made them doesn't want them then who would?do you think he's going to tediously animate episodes by hand, cast new voice actors and put it out on YouTube or something? who the fuck would even watch that in enough numbers to make it financially worthwhile to spend years working on it? we're talking about a 70 year old man here, do you really think he gives a shit about self-producing more episodes or running around trying to sell it to real studios at his age, when he could be at home writing blogs about how smart he is and how dumb everybody else is? be realistic
