Why is Dr. Phosphorus so underutilized in Batman media?>great visual design>cool ability set that makes for a nice challenge for batman to fight>is one of the few bat villains with actual powersYet most Batman media ignores him unless you count Blight in Batman Beyond as Dr. Phosphorus-Lite-but-not-quite. Even Batman: Arkham Knight has him but only as a background character in Simon Stagg's interview tapes as a rando doctor that gets iced offscreen. It took until Creature Commandos for him to get mainstream exposure, even Caped Crusader ignored his ass. I don't get it. You'd think people would be jumping at the chance to reinvent the character, give him the Mr. Freeze treatment yet there's nothing. Instead we just get more random gangsters in gimp costumes.
>>155239244You can’t punch a guy who’s main thing is burning skin off
>>155239293Doesn't Batman fight him with specially insulated suits or something? Also pretty sure Phosphorus can do way more than just burning shit by touching it.
>>155239244well he was going to be the main villain of Batwoman season 4.
>>155239353>batwomanfirst of all nobody watched that shitsecondly it's still not a batman showseriously they never have phosphorus in actual batman stuff
>>155239244The simple answer is that if you aren't one of the big name Batman villains AKA Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Harley, Ra's al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Clayface or Killer Croc then you might as well not exist to hack writers who aren't interested in actually doing something new but simply putting their own "stamp" on well-known villains.
>>155239382No asked you. I'm giving a bit of trivia regarding Dr Phosphorus. Take it or leave it, just don't cry like a bitch because the show triggers you.
>>155239382NTA but>Batman media only counts went it starts Batman>lists Creature Commandos as a talking point>whines when Batwoman is brought up which is more BatFamily centric than Creature fucking Commandosare you retarded?
>>155239459>actual batdyke fans on /co/man this board has gone to hell>>155239482not the op i couldn't care less about creature commandos but batwoman is about as much batman-centric as that birds of prey show from the early 2000s seeing as it literally starts with batman dead and batdyke replacing himso the question is are YOU retarded?
>>155239517>actual batdyke fans on /co/Wrong. I dislike the show but I recognize it has a small fandom.>not the opI don't believe you. But let's entertain that thought for a second:>i couldn't care less about creature commandos but batwoman is about as much batman-centric as that birds of prey show from the early 2000s seeing as it literally starts with batman dead and batdyke replacing him1. Batman quits, he doesn't die. You're thinking of Gotham Knights. So you didn't watch the show, got it. So where'd you get your opinion from?2. If you aren't the OP, I don't care if you don't like Creature Commandos. That's not the point. It's not a matter or liking or disliking, it was brought up in the OP's post and he/maybe-you got buttmad when a more Bat-centric show was mention...but if you are the OP, because this is /co/, well, why'd you bring it up then?>so the question is are YOU retarded?Naw. You proven that you are with the evidence I listed. Now that you're sniffling in the corner, let's get back on topic.
>>155239543>Wrong. I dislike the show but I recognize it has a small fandom.which is why you got so butthurt about defending itnot fooling anybody bucko>1. Batman quits, he doesn't die. You're thinking of Gotham Knights. So you didn't watch the show, got it. So where'd you get your opinion from?technically he disappears and is presumed dead for part of the show so apparently you didn't watch it despite being an obvious fanboy and me loathing the showso you gonna admit that you just got butthurt that somebody called out the show for being trash?>If you aren't the OP, I don't care if you don't like Creature Commandos.i like it actually i just don't care about it in the context of the threadbut batdyke clearly doesn't count because it's not a batman show anymore than 2000s birds of preyit being slightly more associated with bat mythos than creature commandos doesn't change that>Naw. You proven that you are with the evidence I listed.you didn't prove shit except making it blatantly obvious that you got assmad over me shitting on batdykeand i will continue to do so because it's clearly making you mad
>>155239244Dr. Phosphorus is basically a walking gimmick, but once Batman figures out how to deal with that gimmick, he's not exactly the easiest character to get much mileage out of. Like Mr. Freeze can keep updating his tech and countering Batman's counters, Poison Ivy can undergo some new mutation or come up with a crazy new plant. But with Phosphorus, you can really only do so much with him before he gets old. He's a one-trick pony, basically, and that trick isn't super flexible. And it's not even like Phosphorus can get the drop on Batman either. Dude's fucking obvious no matter what he does or where he goes. So he causes trouble, Batman sees that it's Dr. Phosphorus, he breaks out the latest anti-Phosphorus tactics and shit's done.
>>155239605>literally "I know you are but what am I" SCREEs without meritThat's a lot of crying. Funniest shit I read in a while lmao so thank you. I needed that, keep going. :)
>>155239661>no proper comeback just impotent seethingthanks for playing dipshit
>>155239845>"B-bu-buh my autistic screeching proved you wrong. Therefore I win."hahahaSo funny. So adorable. Keep going. I'm loving this. :3
>>155239624>Like Mr. Freeze can keep updating his tech and countering Batman's counters, Poison Ivy can undergo some new mutation or come up with a crazy new plant. You don't need to have Phosphorus keep getting massive upgrades since he's already powerful enough as is with the only addition in newer comics that he can actively control his powers so he's not blasting radiation everywhere he goes 24/7. Poison Ivy's powers have been more or less the same for 30 something years now. Besides there's the likes of Clayface, Killer Croc and Man-Bat who aren't exactly pulling new abilities out of their ass in every fight with Batman. And even if you do want Phosphorus to have new tricks, it's not hard to just say that the radiation has mutated him even further and have him do new things like generating EMP to shut off Batman's gear or something. I was more referring to the fact that Batman media seems allergic to having Dr. Phosphorus show up at all to fight Batman with the closest we get being stuff like Creature Commandos or as >>155239353 said season 4 of Batwoman. Also I think it's funny that you call Phosphorus a one-trick pony while also mentioning Mr. Freeze whose Nora gimmick is good for like one story that writers then repeat ad infinitum.
>>155239909lmao i can practically see your tears through the screenbatdyke sucks deal with it loser
>>155239943That's your reflection. Thanks for the laughs, friend lol.>batdyke sucksyes it does indeed.
>>155240044a reflection of me pointing and laughing at you dumb ass?that it is lmao>yes it does indeedi'm sure it killed you inside to admit it but at least you didmoving on
>over half the thread is the OP seething and choosing to pick a bitch fight over a tv showWelp. This thread is dead. Was hoping to talk about Dr. Phosphorus.
>>155239244Blight in Batman Beyond did his gimmick better.
>>155239393Killer Croc and Clayface are a stretch even. Even Scarecrow gets sidelined. I want them to mine the rogue's gallery a lot more
>>155240089>I cried, I lost, let's move on
>>155239353Was that actually confirmed by anyone? I know the creators were being coy about that teaser.
>>155241041Carolin Dries said in a TVLine interview after season 3 ended that this mysterious figure was going to cause Chernobyl in Gotham City with literal radioactive fallout. So an adaptation of this was planned>https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Batman:_Strange_ApparitionsIronically Pennyworth was leading to something in its cancelled 4th season plans. Guess nuclear fallout was a no-sell.
>>155240144>>155240701>samefaggingjust take the l already weirdo
>>155240644I think all 3 get a decent amount of exposure in Batman shows. Scarecrow is definitely up there with Joker, Penguin and Riddler as one of the most commonly used Batman villains.
>>155239244He’s more famous as a Starman villain now.
Phosphorus exists in that weird space of post 66, pre-89 villains where many didn't stick and they started lacking the Dick Tracy villain grotesque flair of a mobster. Sci-fi themed Batman villains tend to have a hard time sticking around, and the '89 movie and BTAS leaned into giving Batman media a very gothic feeling that wasn't really there in the 70's and 80's where the comics were very much meant to exist in the real, current day. It makes the more sci-fi themed villains feel out of place. Then the Nolan movies and 2000's comics would lean towards a feel of "realism" or supernatural horror which works for a lot of the core rogues gallery but not so much villains who get powered up by bullshit science. At the end of the day, a lot of the main villain gimmicks are tangible;Joker is bleached and uses venoms, Two-Face is a scarred man, Scarecrow uses hallucinogens, Riddler is a themed gangster, eve later additions like Croc or Bane feel like they have grounded explanations for their powers.Radiation just doesn't feel like something that would empower a "street level", pulp villain. Too sci-fi. Mr. Freeze is a very lucky case for a sci-fi themed Batman villain in that he was used in the '66 show (3 times, albeit different each time) making enough of an impact to keep him from total obscurity and getting reworked into a character that fit the art deco/noir aesthetic of BTAS, which in turn helped normalize him as part of his rogues gallery. Poison Ivy is another weird case because she went form a simple poisoner to having sentient plants and mystical ties, though I'd say it helps her lean more to the supernatural which still has a pulp feel. The Clayfaces have been melded so that he's more an all around monster man which works with the pulp roots. Blight perhaps did more damage in that he both established the whole concept and look for another era's Batman's main villain, and moreover made his power set seem more "futuristic".
