Goodwin beat up a girl he wasn't married to!
>>155250549Adeliers stay taking Ls
So how do glamours work? If the helmet falls off of someone the normal thing to see would still be them, not someone else. But I get the feeling that it's not as simple as that.
>>155250549>named Goodwin>has a good winJUST AS FORESHADOWED.
if you saw his helmet knocked off and where he landed, the glamour might hold. if some rando just walked over without knowing the helmet got knocked off, they might see a young woman in oversized clothes on the ground
>>155250696Wouldn't the normal perspective sphere still mean you see a man given the clothing is for men? Though confirmation you're seeing a different man from everyone else would break the glamour.
>>155250616Glamours work via "perception spheres". The helmet helped add to the perception that Miki was Lilleord, and proximity to the helmet is important for maintaining that perception, but she doesn't specifically have to be wearing it. However, wearing it makes it more effective than not wearing it, because perception glamours depend on the viewers' own assumptions in order to work.Think of it like social engineering. Someone wearing a hardhat, a high-vis vest, and carrying a clipboard is going to read to most people as a construction worker. It's not until you look more closely, or spot inconsistencies, that you realize that person isn't who they say they are. In other words, the more you interrogate the glamour, the more likely it is to fail. And if you know it's a glamour, it stops working entirely.
>>155250749Can confirm. When I had a plain, white single cab pickup truck I could safely illegally park pretty much anywhere. I'm convinced that if I added an orange cone I could have parked on the municipal courthouse lawn and got away with it.
>>155250737i think desire has to be there too. thats how sette saw the version of duane she wanted to see. i wonder if someone could be thinking "noooooo that cant be our guy on the ground, i wont accept it," and then they look and whoosh its not him
>>155250816>>155250749I think pulling colours from elsewhere is also just visually present and consistent. Everyone will know this dog's glamoured, and may not particularly wish to see such a pink thing, but there it is.
>>155250545see, that's where you fucked up. you said "for father", but ya got the dad who doesn't do the shanking instead, see?
>>155250545No no no! ...Mikisisters... It wasn't meant to end like thisWhy did I invest so much in Soudcoin? GODwin chads are gonna make fun of us
>>155250892That's not a perception glamour! Perception glamours utilize perception spheres. I think they're first really mentioned/discussed in... chapter 7, page 56.> "The flaws of utilizing perceptive spheres in glamour construction remain the inherent relativity of perception and the inability to suggest specific or even consistent alterations without... blah blah, we need more flowers."Miki was trying to make her grandfather look like a two-toe and got a poo-toe, because she was using perception spheres, which are super finicky and variable, instead of doing a direct aspect swap. What you're talking about is taking an aspect of color from one object and applying it to another object. That doesn't require perception spheres, that's just direct aspect swap.
>>155250549The unfortunate fate of an Adelier seen looking Too Cool
>>155251000The dialogue calls it a glamour in the last panel.
>>155251034The direct aspect swap ones are called literal glamours.
>>155251034Yes, but it's not a perception glamour. There are two kinds of glamours in Unsounded. There are ones based on aspect swaps from materials, like color. Those work regardless of whether you know they're there or not. Those are much more limited, and making something super creative out of them is painstakingly difficult and generally not done, so they usually just handle superficial changes to something without meaningfully changing that thing's appearance (e.g you know the pink dog is still a dog). You can also use things like transparency, such as using the transparency of water to make yourself less visible. Then there's ones that rely on perception spheres. We see the vulnerability of perception-based glamours when Bastion is playing doctor after the Nevergreen blew up, because he kept showing up as a different person to everyone who saw him, and that's how he got caught. Perception glamours are popular because they're so versatile. Most of the fancy glamours we see in Unsounded are perception-sphere glamours. Simple ones, like color or transparency or taste or smell, are basic aspect swaps. A glamour is just an illusion, and there's more than one way to cast an illusion.
>>155250549Poor Goodwin, Miki's going to be called out to dull the Geffendur victory, a young soud girl almost out-pymaried their specially bred war plat. I don't know if the Geffies are going to eat the lesser shame or do something outrageous, like agree to not use plods if the Lions make up the labor difference

I didn't expect something as uncool as loosing to the fucking fake cape trick, that's practically a scoobydoo joke.
>>155250545Funny how just last thread there was someone talking about how impractical a cape like that is in a fight.
she has to marry him now. Unless he glamours into a girl and she has to kill him instead.
That was actually a good fight all in all with good ups and downs for both sides and fun exchanges. The ending wasn't telegraphed at all, it was anyone's game right up until the final move. The fact the two of them were running around a giant coin was a great visual representation of how evenly matched they were. Even how they're both being fucked by the system, two sides of the same coin. But someone had to take it home in the endI don't know what happens to Goodewin after this but I don't think it's anything positive. He might seek Micki for revenge or maybe out of curiosity?Losing always sucks but there are a hundred different interesting ways for it to go from here. Winning would have everyone bitching about a mary sue
>>155250549Eugenics works!
>>155252038>pissing in your smashed and slammed bloodlineI don't have the Dhammakert breeding rules memorized but I imagine it yields a bronze or something shitty like that. Pink Man would never allow it.

>>155252100then don't lose your duels lol
>>155251162>Most of the fancy glamours we see in Unsounded are perception-sphere glamoursI wanna say the various costumes the Crescian upperclass like to use are probably hand crafted, though. It's more work, but for an outfit you want something specific you know people will see. We also see Duane and Siya working with, presumably, a loom that helps facilitate this in Litriya.Although, looking at some examples such as the attached spoilered tatas and the Queen's half invisible dress, the explicitly magical parts do seem very simple (either just glowing or making you see through), so I suppose you're probably still right.
>>155252082>I don't know what happens to Goodewin after this but I don't think it's anything positive. He might seek Micki for revenge or maybe out of curiosity? What do you mean, Goodwin just won the right to impregnate prime, top breed Plat snatch. What better end is there than that?
>>155252124I don't get why they use glamour for fashion, considering they break if you know its glamour. all the nobles in the ballroom probably see each other half naked and wearing plain clothes
>>155252038Sir, this is a perfectly standard traditional military practice. Only homoeroticism is allowed
>>155250549get dunked on, NERD
Goodwin is going to BREED tonight
this wouldn't have happened if she had better shoes fir for her tiny feet.
>>155252154Only perception glamours break if you see through them. The other glamours that specifically use pymarics and pymary to construct an image of something specific are impervious to being seen through with simple doubt of its veracity. It's like the difference between a hologram and, like, a psychic projection (though perception glamours are not psychic). But, as the other anon said, the down side to non-perception glamours is you can only do super simple stuff easily. Anything beyond a simple light shown requires someone to basically pre-bake a specific image into a pymaric and it can only ever show that one glamour. Perception glamours' weakness to being discovered is that it's super simple to cast and doesn't require much more effort for complicated images, because the targets will see what they expect. They're just bad in crowds, or when multiple different people are communicating what they see, because you can't actually CONTROL what they think they should see. The Ssaelit saw Lilleord, but I bet if they compared notes they would've seen different versions of his injured state based on what each one knew about his wounds. And if they weren't on almost literally non-speaking terms with the Gefendur paladins, the Gefendur probably would've had wildly different visions of the soud they expected to see themselves.

>Mikaila lostOK, I’m bored with her now. Let’s go back to Sette. At least she’s a winner.
Rouseau doesn't seem too happy about this.
>>155252552Sette dropped her knife that one time.
>>155252082Ultimately Miki lost due to a lack of combat experience rather than being outmatched in pymary imo. Can’t see this going well for her now though, married off or third option’d or efghersit. And nobody kind/sane by Aldish standards is going to want to marry her. So a choice between 3 miserable lives.
Wow pissmops really are useless

>I must apologise for the Soud. We purposefully created them wrong, as a joke.
>>155251162>>155250749Glamors have always been the weirdest part of Pymary to me. Most of it has been very objective and based in physics and mathematics, ie "pull heat Aspect from this brazier to launch a fireball"Perspective spheres are always based in subjective perception so they're difficult to grasp as a reader, even an autistic one who likes magic lore.
>>155252137Unironically, Rousseau doesn't believe they won fast and hard enough. They're both losers as far as The System™ is concerned.
>>155250549Why is Will in trans flag colors at the bottom?
>>155252568On purpose, so some taffer would step on it and drop their gubbins!

>>155250549>She fell on the wrong sideOh god is rape about to happen?!
>>155252137>prime, top breed Plat snatchEven if Rousseau lets him breed it would be with another (probably related) smashed and slammed Plat like himself. Goodwin's only real shot at quality poon is to run away to some Plat village in the middle of nowhere.
>>155250549Ssaelbros... it's happening again
>>155250549I hope she gets raped
>>155252124Man, elka fucking hates emne
>>155251652It took Goodwin way too long to win. He's an asshole that way. It's going to get worse if Miki's identity get revealed here. Not just for her (which of course it will, because breaking social norms and LOSING is actually dangerous) but for Goodwin, too (because now he struggled against a girl, which will not endear him to his boss or co-religionists).
>>155253193Fat chance Ssael killed the gods if this is the best his devotees can do. Probably ran away pissing himself and it trickled down through the khert and coloured the hair of his followers.
>>155253445>he thinks Goodwin was fighting a girlGet real. When have you ever seen a woman cast like that? Where would she even learn it from? No, Goodwin’s pymary was obviously so powerful it rended the dammakhert itself and transformed Lilleord into a woman. Pity for the poor man, but nothing that could be predicted. And what power! This’ll be one studied in the textbooks.
>>155253777Obviously, Lilleord was a third way all this tiume, and as such is a male for all intents an purposes.
What was Miki's getaway plan after the fight anyway? Either this was going to happen, or else she'd have been surrounded and carried off to the pub by cheering Lions. Either way she's pretty sure to get exposed.
>>155252124Please please please let my man Emil be permanently retired. Fucker EARNED it three times over
>>155250545So Miki was clearly going for a kill with those daggers. Did Goodwin show mercy here and just swat her out of the arena when he could have actually killed her?
>>155254225They were both fighting to the best of their ability, I think. He's been throwing edges at her all match.
>>155252782Goodwin will walk over to help the cool pissmop opponent up, only to accidentally cop a feel. You know the rest.
I think it could be read that Miki's response gave Goodwin enough pause to make reconsider his approach and stop trying to take her head. While at the same time giving Miki the resolve to try and fucking murder him when she had previously be going for non lethal options.
If Sette, Jivi, and Matty are becoming pirates will Matty get two eyepatches?
>>155251384>switching to killing attacks after being non lethal the whole fightIt was a double hex
>>155256170With dual knives right after a flashback. Miki doomed herself to jobber status
>>155255948Sette and Jivi will turn Matty into a nugget to body swap for Duane in the great plod heist, so Matty with have two eyepatches, two hooks and two peg legs.
Miki literally won because she saved Will’s life, which was her actual objective. And she came within a Ssaelit pube of actually winning the whole thing to boot.
>>155256244I don't like your words, sir.
>>155256261Holy cope, and I don't mean Ashley.
Goodwin should join the main party he is fat and good at magic and white and male all admirable qualities they are lacking in
>>155256506We ARE lacking in a fat guy.
Here's how Goodwin can still lose:
>>155256587Spontaneous combustion.
>>155256340It’s OK. He’ll be very buoyant so he will have a valuable job on the boat as life jacket.
So I noticed she landed on the copper side of the arena. They're going to be the first people to know she's a woman. Are they going to risk invalidating the duel by exposing her? Or maybe they'll keep her cover so they can have a political win.
Miki liedSsael criedWill died
realistically speaking if the dude she impersonated was in condition to participate, would he have won? hardly? easily?
>>155258167I doubt Lilleord was weathering the Goodwin bladestorm Miki dodged through.
>>155258167According to the Q&A they're roughly equal.
>>155258167Would have been interesting, he's probably a more experienced fighter but I doubt he's got Mikki's raw talent, on the other hand he wouldn't have been wearing the wrong size clothing and maintaining a glamour the whole time either, and on the other other hand Goodwin is probably really good at beating up more conventional fighters because that's what he would be trained for
>>155258167He was taught by Duane in vaunted core technique so he would have just razzle-dazzled Goodwin and secured an easy victory. Miki ruined everything by getting her dad killed.
>>155258167They are match in terms of pymary. but as pointed out by Argenti SR. He is not nearly as agile. He wouldn't be pulling all that dodging bullshit Miki did even if he could scry as good as she did.
What if a wright just had a fucking gun
>>155258439On the other hand he knows how to fight hand-to-hand. And his boots would fit.
>>155257023>Are they going to risk invalidating the duel by exposing her? and validate letting women participate in duels? They're fraternal geffies, not an option>Or maybe they'll keep her cover so they can have a political win.And loudly advertise that their finest plat bred lines were almost beaten by a little girl? She's also Ssaelish, Soud, and the daughter of maybe two Aldish martyrs? They'll probably go into 'Argenti is a Machiavellian genius mode' and do something stupid
>>155256587>Goodwin is surprisingly good natured about the ordeal, having found a respect for his opponent during the fight>Even defends Miki after getting found out>Gets kicked out for not being sexist enoughTrust the plan
In talking about Vleigeng Ashley mentions that this imagine is the first one she drew and that also this is kinda a proto version of THE MAN and Illganyag
>clutches a 2 v 1Get this man a prime breeding sow
>>155256587Having to put up with Rousseau.
>>155258699>THE MAN and IllganyagCareful, that's proto-man and a proto-vliegeng. He reminds me of proto-Bastion in some ways. Doesn't RP Bastion get a wish granting senet beast put in his chest that makes him immortal and adopt the name Etalarche? I believe it's still partially canon to his future self in Unsounded.
>>155258167He probably would've been more aggressive from the start and he would've just made Goodwin into Deadlost when it was 2 v. 1 rather than doing that silly ice trick.
>>155259417He'd likely have been intimidated to face him in a straight casting match and instead rushed him together with Will to try to stab the biggest threat first. Source: I'm psychic
>>155259243It's all the three. The red and black bird on his shoulder was the bases for our glorious titty bird
>>155258459IIRC Ashley answered a Q&A about firearms existing in southern Kasslyne but wrights can just make mass barriers/fields that nullify solid projectiles going at certain speeds. It makes me wonder about something though. Could you store enough momentum aspect into a pymaric to make a railgun? Like just a horrendously expensive, gigantic block of momentum that rockets a first material spike down a barrel at a target. That'd be fun.
>>155260104So they could also mass-cancel arrows? That makes sense, given the sort of warfare we've seen. Unlike railguns which would have no properl target.
I hate every page of this ever repeating story. who the fuck even are these people and why does anyone cares. don't answer that. I won't read it.
I wonder if Alderode has civilian accessible faster-than-letter communication. If not, how am I supposed to headcanon some Plat hikkineet girl that loves her khert-husbando and argues about porn with other degenerate Alds?
>>155252100Plat with a chance of tacit casting. And that's not even considering her talent at combat casting, almost entirely self taught. If Rousseau's complaining it's out of habit.
>>155260427>I hate every page of this story>Who are these peopleYou mixed and matched too far, you have to pick a lane or nobody will take you seriously.
>>155258167He'd die.
>>155260104I remember that post. Last thread when Duane's assassination was brought up I spent a lot of time thinking about why didn't he just do that. Maybe it's a spellburn and not core technique, but not doing it got him killed and his daughter stabbed.>>155260408Projectiles in general, it just destroys whatever's going above a certain speed.
>>155253445It's pretty easy for Goodwin to talk his way out of it, he was playing with kid gloves, trying to win without hurting her. Pay no attention to the bit where he half killed himself grabbing the entire Khert to smack her with a few pages ago. Assuming he doesn't keel over in the next page and a half. The Lions aren't going to be nearly so willing to cognitively dissonate the affair. There'll be hell and Argenti Sr. to pay.
>>155260836You're not wrong, it's not like anyone's going to reevaluate their beliefs.
