>TFW your favorite show from your youth gets a gritty horror reboot
I understand that the times change but Buddy was a wholesome show. Some properties should be left alone. I'm surprised the creators ok'd this
>>
>>155255245
Mascot horror is trendy right now, so it makes sense.
>>
>>155255245
I hate this trend so much.

How long do you think Freddy was in the Buddy world?
Does buddy just cycle through cast members every season?
Does he feel guilty over what he is doing?
>>
>>155255265
Its been trendy since FNAF, when is this shit gonna end?
>>
>>155255245
Spoiler alert. Buddy a metaphor for child grooming by producers in the entertainment industry.
>>
>>155255343
When we have a Supergirl 1984 moment. Something so bad that it kills the whole genre.
>>
>>155255340
Buddy killed people like it was nothing so probably not that long. Might have cycled through a cast every few episodes.
>>
>>155255245
>A Barney-inspired slasher movie and Coyote vs ACME both did better than a big-budget Ridley Scott movie
1. Has there been a director who had a bigger downfall than Ridley Scott?
2. What direction will Buddy 2 go in?

>I'm surprised the creators ok'd this
Me too. I mean, what kind of madlad would say yes to free money?!
>>
>>155255245
Pretending the show exists outside of the movie is a dumb shtick that was already boring in the previous thread
>>
>>155255349
Is it still metaphor when Buddy grope a nurse ass and implied to only eat virgins?
>>
>>155255382

At least they got it right that Buddy doesn't start off looking scary.
A lot of mascot horror stuff make the mistake of making the initial designs too scary. They are supposed to start off seeming harmless they become scary.
>>
>>155255423
>An anon joked in a previous thread that Buddy 2 would take the Aliens route and go full action and would be titled "Buddies"
If buddy follow the horror trend of M3GAN 2. They will make Buddy a good guy.
>>
>>155255366
The entire genre is terrible though. The FNAF movies were straight garbage that only turned a profit because FNAF has the world's dumbest fanbase with dog shit taste and that's the most successful thing to come out of this subgenre.

Buddy is getting attention because it's surprisingly good unlike most stuff to come out of this fad.
>>
>>155255245
Do the Buddy glide!

>>155255245
Oh yeah my friends and I wanted to go see a movie and were considering this, but the only showtime was 9:00 at night and we all had work in the morning.

I’m disappointed that a lot of the Chucky/Child’s Play franchise does this. The first movie understood the correct balance of making the original Good Guy dolls believably ugly cute. Like a real Cabbage Patch doll. The cursed Chucky doll is supposed to be an outlier that is getting progressively more uncanny and creepy as the first film progresses. But later entries in the franchise just decide that Good Guys should look fucked up from the outset.
>>
>>155255382
I don't understand how Ridley keeps getting big budget films

At this point it is more interesting to make a straightforward, seems it will go into horror but never does adaption of a children’s game/show/series vs the mascot horror and they kill kids slop

Its pretty good, it is a lot more "absurd" kind of film then a horror film but it is a genuine film if thats what your worried about. Its not so cynical as to not take itself seriously. Even if there is a good chunk of comedy in the film you never feel like the kids arent genuinely in danger, Buddy is a serious threat up until the end, and if your worried about it being like a FNAF property where its mountains and mountains of lore bait its not that kind of film either. Like aside from a joke or two not landing its a good time. I had a pretty full theater in my screening(mostly high school kids go figure) and they were enjoying themselves

Also as an aside, isnt it fucking crazy that despite all the shit going on in the world and the general state of the economy that this happens to be the year where films are actually putting out good(or at least financially successful) movies? I just find that interesting
>>
>>155255245
Speaking of which, today I learned the director of this movie also made that official Scooby Doo/Blair Witch Project parody that Cartoon Network aired as commercial bumpers. He just went under the name Chris instead of Casper.

>>
>>155258303
Start of the film was funny, some kids were there for whatever reason and they were whining that it was just a kids show because they just could not wait for things to go pair shaped. I feel like that in itself is testament to how well Buddy pulled off resembling something that could've very well been for kids in the past compared to most of this stuff

If you recall how the rules work, it seems pretty clear that Buddy was trying to make Freddy feel bad and sing along with him to try and get a credits roll. It's why his final utterance before death was "Bitch." because she didn't fall for his trick
>>
>>155259431
I feel like at some point Buddy really did care and love the kids, but that one kid joking around with his song made him try to be a LOT more controlling of the situation around him, and you know what they say about absolute power.

I want a Barney movie where Barney's an asshole off-camera, stuck doing store openings and children's parties to pay the bills and fund his drug habit, and Baby Bop is his adult, hard-drinking, hard-up and slutty sister who books appearances not connected to their tv job. On every off-studio job, Barney's in the backyard with the family and their kids' friends, singing songs he finds annoying and dying inside little by little, and Baby Bop's off raiding the liquor cabinet, and/or trying to corner the father or teenage brother in the house. Everyone thinks they're actors in costumes, but they're real dinosaurs...and scientists have once again gotten how dinosaurs looked wrong.

>>155255382
The most likely scenario would be that they just do it again but with [insert x] this time. Either Terminator 2, Aliens, or Friday 13th part 2

But if they went a bit clever they could go somewhere else. Instead of it being about the show directly, they handle another part of it of the "Buddy franchise". Maybe the horror is about the merchandise, somethings haunting a certain product and its spilling over and causing death.
A new toy is being release and it's warping the minds of those who buy. And the more death is cause the more powerful it is until a new Buddy is remade or something

>>
>>155258222
Happens more times than you think with "horror" movies
>>
>>155260991
I said this in an earlier thread but there are two things going on with that. Number 1 is that there is a meta aspect to that lore bit, cause the thing that this movie is majorly spoofing is Barney. The thing is about that despite cultural osmosis telling you otherwise, Barney's show is called "Barney and Friends" but as time went on people and eventually official media just called the show Barney. So with that in mind, the in world show being called "Its Buddy" and the reveal of [insert your spoiler here] shows how Buddy himself took over that world/show just like how Barney overtook Barney and Friends.
The second thing is more of a lore bit I imagine. Despite the obvious "TV Show" premise the magic in the show is real, and there are aspects of the world that cant be explained by just Buddy's powers, so thats why you get [insert spoiler here] and its implications for the other magical aspects of this world. Also it leaves room for sequel bait, the director has had interviews post premiere that have him already stating hes down to do another one so thats why those bits were probably left vague at the end
>>
Nice, it's up on youtube. DL it while you can and watch at your leisure. Just look for "Buddy Full Movie". It's in 5 segments.

But it's ALWAYS bad. The problem is that horrorfags literally don't have a rock-bottom.

I felt like she knew but knows she couldn’t do anything cause of how worse it might get.

they don't have the balls to make a Bill Cosby parody film

if you replaced grace with betty in that one scene, do you think she would let him do it?

Having seen it now, I can actually see how a person who is distracted and not paying attention and out of touch with modern kids’ media could get confused for maybe a good twenty minutes into the film. They open by playing it pretty straight. Even the poster isn’t designed to scream “scary gorey mature horror movie,” it’s just mildly unsettling.

>Has someone done Willy Wonka as a horror film yet where the kids are just shown getting gored?
Someone made a Willy Wonka inspired TTRPG called Blood in the Chocolate: that triggered /tg/ critical role 5E fans because he didn’t shy away from the racial enslavement of the Oompa Loompa’s.

This movie makes me almost sad that I fell for the hating on Barney meme back when I was in the prime target demographic. Just cause it woulda given me better context and maybe even nostalgia. I think I secretly watched maybe two Barney episodes out of curiosity when I was probably about seven.

But even I can see that the early scene in Buddy with Josh definitely does very well capture one classic 90s edutainment trope. There’s was always some moody emo kid that wanted to go pout in a corner while the other kids were having fun, and it was the episode’s job to show him that being antisocial is bad and he should come join the group. Buddy is faced with an interesting problem when Josh doesn’t magically get with the program at the usual cue and instead persists in his behavior.

I saw a post in a now dead thread over on /tv/ that they were struggling to identify any themes the movie had. Between me being so stuck on Josh’s entire character and the molestation scene with Nurse Grace, I think there was a theme about abusive control and the violation of consent.

His voice was vaguely attractive and I felt a little something when he tongue-lashed the nurse.

Oh absolutely. Better question is whether or not she’d enjoy it.

Between this, the Mario movies, and Super mansion, Key is really good at voice acting
He was extremely believable as a Barney type character

Do you think Buddy was also getting jiggy with the original nurse?
>>

Nancy? Possibly. He could be doing behind closed door stuff with literally any of the cast. Probably if any of the girl kids stuck around long enough to age up a few years, he’d start predding on them too. Assuming Grace was his type.

I’m glad we got a minimum of uncomfortable sex stuff though. It’s very easy to over do it and then it wouldn’t be as uncomfortable.

Not entirely sure what they were saying with the gay cowboy puppet but that was fun too.

Josh is an interesting character to me, because when I was a kid, I also only ever wanted to sit alone and read. And now that I’m an adult, I finally understand why all the adults in my life would keep insisting I’d have a better time if I went and played with the other kids. I was supposed to be learning skills then that are a lot harder to learn now.

But physically beating Josh still seems bad. And yet, I don’t see a better alternative. Which is why it’s so good I’ll never have kids.
