Back in the day Homestuck had $10,000 whale tiers and people bought it, then Undertale did it too and got bids. It basically just doesn't hurt to have a giga-whale backer tier on your project because there's a small but real population that can sling 10 grand at something they like, esp. if they think it'll be a clout investment.

>>155264158

What are the odds Tom and Don are the ones funding the 7k tier to generate hype and to use it as tax write off?

interesting theory, it would make a kind of sense too, as they would 'settle' into their bodies better after a decade or so.

It hasn't really been demonstrated as such however. Also Chip had giga-plot armor, he survived because Tom and Dom wanted him to, not because he was old. Punching a hole through the middle of his chest, including a football sized chunk of spine, is an instant death for everyone who isn't a primarch in 40k.

>Satire the past decade or two has gotten hijacked by people using it to mock something they hate instead of lampoon something they like
The problem with a lot of modern "satire" is it isn't actually satire.
Starship Troopers is an exact example of this. The director 'intended' to make a movie satirizing the book, and the way he did this is he just had tongue in cheek propaganda and nazi uniforms. That's "satire" as far as certain types of people are concerned, just say that the other side are nazis and that's good enough. But it isn't. You're not actually critiquing anything, you're not saying why nazis or propaganda is bad.
Compare Helldivers, which is very similar to the Starship Troopers film with one major difference: Super Earth is constantly fucking up and constantly causing its own problems. There is no implicit claim that the Federation manufactured the war with the Bugs, Super Earth actually did abuse the Cyborgs, farm the Terminids, and wage a false casus belli against the Illuminate. The criticism against European style "managed democracy" is very explicit, and that's what makes it actual satire.

For Space King, the satire is under several layers of irony and the true message is "yes, it is bad for genocidal empires to exist in real life, but in fiction it is extremely awesome and stupid to claim it isn't awesome".

Slapping greatcoats on characters isn't satire
Propaganda newscasts are trying to have their cake and eat it too, refusing to commit to being in-universe or the whole movie itself being one while still showing shit that no propaganda reel would ever fucking show
The film shows an orderly society responding to an existential threat (because the director was too fucking stupid to make it a false flag and outright says it isn't) that they weren't prepared to fight but quickly adapting past their initial failures and turning the war around. At no point does it actually lampoon what's supposed to be wrong with this society it just goes
>haha look at these people acting all patriotic aren't they fucking insane!
and that's it
The movie fails as satire from the outset because Verhoeven added tits and ultraviolence purely to sell movie tickets, not to actually communicate a message, which then muddles any possible message in a melange of consumerism. It lacks all purity of focus, not least of which because they didn't even understand what they were parodying, he read one chapter of the book describing ancient greek democracy, where you only get a vote by actually serving your nation, then declared that fascism.

They're biologically collectivist, every single bug is willing to die to the very last to serve the will of their queen and their queen has decided to make war against mankind
Brainbugs show they very much are not "dumb animals" and are explicitly led by very intelligent creatures who are willing to brutally murder every single human they come across. There can be nothing short of extinction or the threat of it to stop them.

The whole "the Federation sent the asteroid as a psyop" is a common theory, even the director claims it is true, but if you actually watch the film what happens is the asteroid nearly hits a Federation ship in deep space and that's the first clue of the Bug's sneak attack.
There is ZERO evidence the Federation were behind it, and every bit of evidence that they were not.

>The criticism against European style "managed democracy" is very explicit, and that's what makes it actual satire.
Managed Democracy is more like North Korean or Venezuelan fake elections than anything to do with the European Union's indirect election bullshit or its member states' habit of forming wide coalitions ranging from the far left to moderate right parties to keep the "maybe have less immigration" parties with 40% of the vote out.
It's just obfuscated through the pretense that voting happens by people putting their preferences into a computer and the algorithm then determining their ideal candidate, which just happens to be the currently ruling party each time, coincidentally (or for the recently-liberated commies of Cyberstan, the "be exploited by Super Earth forever" party).
The first game was especially blatant about satirizing the Bush-era Great War on Terror propaganda, with a focus on the jingoism and promoting "freedom" as a motivation for the war, along with aspects of 1984 totalitarianism.

It does make me curious if we'll ever see more of the civilian side of the Space King universe. It obviously focuses on the Psycho Warriors and their endless crusade, but since all we've seen of normal humans are the boy hunts, the Grim Lord, and that family that one Psycho Warrior was trying to protect in Episode 3 before the alarm went of, I'm curious if their society is any more functional than the Psycho Warrior legions and the Sanctum Globulari.

We really used Terry too early because there's no way these guys are worth more than him
>>
>>155280013
That sounds like Blapper talk to me bucko, and I don't want Blap Blap spittle all over my nice clean Blueberry-squiahing armour.
>>
>>155280166
They probably are to Tom and Don they don’t like Terry that much

Yukon is explicitly the one they like from Kingsmas. Hermy is canonically dead and I'd be surprised if Rudolph got anything. I think we'll probably just get more and more obscure monster figures.

Maybe if we're lucky an expansion loosely based on Episode 3 with the AI and the caped legion there.

Weren't human wave attacks, didn't get everyone killed, and the mobile infantry adapted immediately realizing the bugs are actually smart.
The bugs should've sent a fucking diplomat to argue
>what the fuck are these assholes on our clay
so the federation could tell them
>do whatever the fuck you want with them, they're not ours
>>
I don't know man. I was skeptical about the board game before but after the stream, I wonder if it'll even be worth playing
>>
>>155278611
See, exactly what i mean
Tards see a director who is obscenely retarded and actually think he's a satirical genius despite the film and commentary track both outright saying the opposite. There was no false flag, the bugs launched the meteor, verhoeven is too stupid to understand space is big since he never shows any kind of wormhole as FTL.
There was nothing at all to say its a false flag, the film shows a meteor nearly hitting a ship, the film doesn't hint at all that its not a meteor or that the fed sent the meteor themselves. The film plain as day states that the bugs launched an attack on the fed as recompense for unrelated space mormons which is casus beli

I just want the minis. They look way better than gw's nu-marine slop
>>
>>155280656
It's a shame because I was hoping for a simple game with play with my buddies. They don't like overcomplicated shit like Four Souls or anything that needs turn structure. When they advertised the game, I thought it'd be something simple where I can convince them to join in but I can confidently say they will not play it. Maybe once or twice, but never a third time
>>
>>155279687
>The first game was especially blatant about satirizing the Bush-era Great War on Terror propaganda, with a focus on the jingoism and promoting "freedom" as a motivation for the war
And that was far more effective of satire than HD2 where the enemy factions are now existential threats to mankind who need to be fought off yet their elite shock troops and fire support specialists are no longer grizzled veterans but bumbling retards.
>but super earth drove them to do that
Sure, but that doesn't matter to the people living on earth today. Those people are unrelated to the crimes committed against the bots and bugs and squids a hundred years prior, you can't just tell them
>hey you should lay down and let these people slaughter you because they were wronged before
And arrowhead has, time and time again, shown that the enemy factions aren't waging some war of liberation or independence, they are actively mulching civilians in giant robo blenders. So that leaves the only real criticisms being about the nebulous political structure of Super Earth and its corporatocratic tendencies.
>>
>>155280605
It won't
But the minis look nice
>>
>>155279091
The very first episode had a fresco in High Command's room depicting Space King resisting the temptations of scantily clad alien harlots (by shielding his eyes)
>>
>>155277513
Space King's audience isn't really the typical /co/ audience, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the anons posting in these threads don't even post much on /co/ when there isn't a new episode out.
I'm sure many of us are 30+ year old boomers who remember the glory days of Gachi memes.

I get you. My friends bailed on playing anything that isn't online. Or requires any kind of effort. Now I just paint the occasional mini. Normies can't keep up, but we're dead in the water without them. It's either deal with sperglords at the hobby shop or go hermit and paint by myself. Here's hoping the game at least gets enough buzz to get a few good players.
>>
>>155280760
Needs more pose variety. There's only so much guy standing I can handle. Here's hoping we get some more psycho warriors with some variety like the robbed guys from episode 3.
>>
>>155280769
It's not like my friends hate playing board games but they don't want anything complicated. They want to play simple games like Codename, Secret Hitler, Virus, etc. Games that barely have much variety after the 10th run. And no matter how much I egg them on to try something new, the moment they see more than one set of cards, followed by dice, they bail out

The eternal desire of boys to be the biggest baddest mfer around and for all the bitches to want you, only to say no and ignore them truly our hero.

>>155280895
I really don't understand how they still have so much good will left, I dropped them immediately when Broken Age ended up being one of the most braindead games I've ever played.
>>
>>155267130
The first part of the episode was genuinely good. Then Zach's voice started to kick in and it became mediocre.

I wouldn't say it was a bad episode, just not as good compared to other the four.

>>

What's wrong with the game? Gameplay so far looks like a non woke Solium Infernum.
>>
>>155280832
i see a couple of straight up succubus in there. Hopefully they make for the chaos demon stand-ins. It would make sense, the ultimate temptation and the catalysts for ruin.
>>
>>155281304
It looks boring from the way they advertise it and put more emphasis on the minis than the mechanics of the game
Also games that put more time into it's jokey aspect typically suffer because mechanics will be based around what's funny more than what's enjoyable

>War World 5.8M views in two days
>Kingsmas 4.6M views in 8 months
Woah holy shit.

>>155281416
So far the only problem is that it seems like a plyer who's screwed anyways can trigger a draw very easy.
>>
>>155281214
More memeable with his ancap ways, while Rudolph is more grotesque and they probably don't want him to be their posterboy for a Psyker type unit.

generally xmas or halloween episodes are either more, or much less popular than any other episode in any series. Xmas in particular seems to be a non-starter.

is it really that complex? the game looks fine
oh well at least the figs are cool, they said the poses should show their personality like bryce eager to throw the lava grenade

>>155281851
It's not complex for me, but my friends are normalfags. If a game has more than one card deck, figures, and/or multiple sets of dice, they immediately say no. It took me so long to convince them to play Four Souls, and even that we only touch once every few months
