People don't watch it anymore. Even if they did still have some witty jokes, nobody would see them. Most popular simpsons memes became memes well over ten years after their original episodes aired. Spongebob tries to inorganically create memes in their new episodes and it's super obvious, and that's why it just doesn't work.
