How long until adult swim begs them to come back?
Never.
>>155270353Why was this show popular anyway
>>155270424Parasocial oneyplays fans
Have any of you actually seen the live events where the creators have to interact with the fans? Everyone but Michael is so obviously not into it it's not even funny. Marc M. is basically trying to ruin it for everyone else on purpose and Zach is basically showing up onstage chainsmoking and trying to have a completely separate conversation, forgetting his lines and entire subplots. It's very clear the entire thing was just a hail-Mary that he wanted to make as loud and infectious as possible before he burnt out forever.
>>155270578Zach smokes?Cusack being into it makes sense. It's clear he wants to be a big shot considering the sheer amount of shows he has created (Yolo, SF, Koala Man, Dad's House, and indie stuff like Croc & Cube)

>>155270353They've been begging them all this time actually. I don't think Adult Swim was EVER happy with Zach & Michael's plea to end Smiling Friends out of nowhere, but the execs also realize the two creators' specific brand of humour is a big reason why it blew up in the first place. Their many contributions are what defined the writing/direction as well as the promoting at Comic-Con panels and Annecy festivals. Adult Swim only conceded because they knew fans wouldn't react favorably to the two main draws of the series stepping away. The network's greed would be extra obvious that way. The ball is in Zach & Michael's court, but for whatever reason those assholes went full scorched earth and backed out of the confirmed 2-season order instead of simply asking for a hiatus or a deadline extension. The fans wouldn't have minded waiting a little longer for new episodes.
>>155271214Smiling Friends was cancelled before Season 2 aired.
They probably already have. Multiple times.
>>155272095That makes no sense
>>155272206It's true, though, so.
>>155270424Because it’s good
>>155270424Oneyplays fans spammed it all over the place with the power of autism and unemployment, it's an astroturf show
>>155270353Considering no original shows get made anymore and Smiling Friends has nothing to compete with, it appears better than it is. The writing is awful but it has funny meme moments, it's similar to Family Guy gags and Rick and Morty-style voice acting. It's still a fun show and I'd put it in the same category as TADC.
>>155270353Why would AS need to do this? Rick and Morty has already gone back to fulfilling SF's purpose as being the flagship IP. There's no need to go the extra mile when your target audience is "DUDE SCIENCE AND WEED" people.
>>155271214they explained their reasoning that they didn't want to call it a hiatus, because then there would be an expectation of them coming back. The show effectively *is* on hiatus. Adult Swim are basically just waiting for them to ask to make more. Maybe it'll still happen. Maybe it wont.
>>155270353DUNNO
>>155270353Some adult swim shows have long hiatusses too.
>>155270424Its not
Does AS have anything other than dick and snorty now?
>>155270353did they get kicked off?
>>155272095>>155272206>>155272293lmao
>>155272866what the fuck you talking about? the purpose of every company is to make money. without smiling friends, they can't do that.
Pim is tewwwwww CUTE!
>>155273862ESL or literacy crisis? Adult Swim doesn't need Smiling Friends anymore. They have Rick and Morty to push sales and pump up viewership for them.
>>155270353they left the show, they weren't fired
>>155270424It was appealing to a mass amount of people, decently original characters and dynamics and decent humour. People assume it was oney plays fans who boosted it but a lot of the people I met who watched it never knew who oney was
>>155270353The begging happens when the creators are going through the thought process of quitting. And here we are, they've quit.Adult Swim will move on.
>>155270424This another Pre-School cartoon in the wrong place (Adult Swim).
>>155270424Non Oney Plays watcher here:1. Purely episodic, no loreshit in the sea of muh deep lore shit. it's easily digestable funny shit happening executed well2. The realistic dialog gimmick works well. It's funny seeing these weird fucks talk about domestic disputes.3. Short 11 minute episodes so they're quick to watch
>>155274520Yes! VERY!
it lasted well
>>155276377Fuck you, we were promised two more seasons. Zach could've quit after that.
>>155275660>hates lore kinoLiteral baby needs episodic slop so he don't have to think very hard
>>155270424Reddit really loved it.
>>155273023>Maybe it'll still happen. Maybe it wont. I hate that shit. It's so rare for a hit cartoon to actually end and STAY ended. Now Gumball's back, Regular Show's back, Phineas and Ferb's back, etc. The feeling of closure for a beloved show is something all you nostalgia-blind animation fans will never understand apparently. I'm even starting to fear Hirsch may one day succumb to the decade of pressure from Gravity Falls fans and bring THAT back somehow. I always respected Zach & Michael's transparency since the beginning about not wanting SF to last forever. They could've actually made full use of the show's potential, tapped out with an actual final season*, and it would've been perfect! Now we're stuck not ever really knowing when--or if--it'll come back for a new season or special. This state of uncertainty sucks bigtime. *No, Season 3 was NOT written as the final season
>>155274940They didn't "leave." They burned the whole thing to the ground.
I still don’t buy the burnout explanation considering Michael immediately got back to work and has done stuff since it ended
>>155278855Zach more recently had some sort of article interview where he mentioned budgets. It sounds like that theory that came out shortly after the announcement about budgets/outsourcing/the reason they made their own animation studio might've been true.
>>155277197What's Edddy's brother's name? The B keychain hanging from his neck suggests it starts with a B but I can't think of any intimidating name that starts with that letter.
>>155275660>The realistic dialog gimmick works well. It's funny seeing these weird fucks talk about domestic disputeno different than watching a Joe Rogan podcast, friendslop
>>155275660>2. The realistic dialog gimmick works well. It's funny seeing these weird fucks talk about domestic disputes.I think the problem is it's overused. It can be funny but when it's the whole show and they're self-aware referencing it by the time of Mole Man it's too much. It works as a side thing, not "always on."
Yep!Guess I'm OOGLY GOO!
