>Upcoming Pokemon parody comic
>Getting its own TCG apparently
I don't think it'll happen and I doubt it'd even be big but I always thought had the crash never happened there'd be someone pulling this in the very late 90's to early 2000's pairing single issues with random cards.
It'd be a spectacular failure of course but I could imagine someone trying to blend the two for both engagement and speculator bs

>Creature Corps revolves around a reality where survivalist, fantastical creatures from a broken future slip into the present, pitted against each other for vicious sport. The series will launch with a 60-page issue priced at $4.99.
>The mysterious animals soon fuel an unethical creature battling league that generates unprecedented profit, often using teenage "trainers" to manage the time-displaced fighters. One of those trainers was Dusty Gotem, who ascended to World Champion when he was 14. A devastating event forced Gotem to leave the trade in disgust, leaving him to seek solace in the wilderness. Years later, Gotem's former colleagues seek him out with news of a much more devastating battle: Gotem's mother lies in critical condition drowning in medical bills, forcing him to rejoin the trade—and the chronological refugees—he hasn't faced for decades.
>"I'm excited to be reunited with my dear collaborator Jok and my friends at Image Comics on my biggest launch yet," said Pires in a statement. "Creature Corps is equal parts 16-bit gaming nostalgia, the dark deconstructionism of The Boys, and the time travel insanity of Back To The Future in equal measure. It's a chaotic menagerie of comic book magic that feels uniquely its own. Did I mention we're doing a trading card game too? This is gonna be fun."

Brother they're not even hiding that this is based on Pokémon

I do think Jok is a good artist but I think his artstyle is gonna alienate the people who'd be remotely interested in "Pokemon meets The Boys"

I'm not too keen on the concept but honestly you CAN make it work but you'd have to be a diehard, jaded Pokemon fan (that isn't the Genwun kind) to *get* why it could work to begin with. Because so far it just seems like the tired "DUDE POKEMON IS A BLOODSPORT" type shtick.

Wow so this is the power of creator driven comics

Did you read what you just typed out?

I know he's a parody of Ash but he looks more like the guy from the first Digimon World

>>155304347
Unfortunately that's the way of marketing
I think the inherent problem with making anything "The Boys" of something is that The Boys was a satire of superheroes second and a satire on the entertainment industry and military industrial complex first

That said, I might check it out
I heard good things about the writer's other works

>>155304358
I meant people would probably expect something that more closely resembles Pokemon's artstyle to begin with
Mon "deconstructions" are already a thing

>Check Variants
>Booster Bundle Variant
>Two dollars more expensive than the other regular variants
Somewhere out there Marvel or Kirkman is either lamenting how they didn't come up with this first or are waiting to see if it does work so they can do the same thing

I'll say this about the designs
I'm not all over them but at the same time I don't hate them.
Palworld never clicked with me because it looked too much like Pokemon and all the best Mon media that aren't Pokemon are visually distinct from Pokemon with their own mix of inspirations to stand out.
The worst Pokemon inspired indie games are the ones that look at Pokemon and Pokemon alone for inspiration when in reality Pokemon wasn't born out of a vacuum, it was inspired by the likes of real world zoology, yokai folklore, Jurassic Park, the kaiju genre, etc
Granted like that one Anon pointed out, "Dusty Gotem" is too on the nose.

I hate the art.

I'll check it out but I'm not really feeling it. If it's going to be a pokemon parody the creatures really need to shine even if the character drama is the focus. Making a tie-in TCG also raises some reddish flags to me these days. If it's just a cute little side bonus thing then it's fine but if it's an attempt to stoke the speculator crowd then it seems more likely that the actual comic will be an afterthought to the gambling and speculation. Also it looks like there's a horror props company that goes by the same name as the title so that seems like a problem for name recognition and visibility.

Yeah, I'm with you guys. I'm still willing to check it out, but unless it's got more in store than just being a blatant gritty Pokemon parody, this isn't going to last long.
>>
this looks like a shitty parody webcomic from 25 years ago

No

What issue is the "They're having sex with the humanoid one" gonna come up ya think?

Whats gonna be their gardevoir analogue ?

The art should be better.

I'll read it if it's storytimed here
