How can we get more comic book readers posting on /co/?
>>
You'd have to seperate comics and cartoons into two different boards. And comic books only, no MCU and animated series allowed.
>>
>>155308736
Normally I'd suggest converting people through storytiming non-cape comics with artstyles and premises that'd appeal to the majority of people who make up this board but my patience is waning
>>
>>155308736
I almost would rather talk to comic book readers in private nowadays but I don't want to deal with posers, leeches and cosplayers
>>
>>155308736
You'd have to change the entire sitewide culture back to like, circa 2010 before things got *political*, never going to happen.
>>
>>155308736
Make more comic threads.

Gave it a think since last time.
1.Each month pick a genre, go to sales and rec lists for it and pick 4 of the highest selling or acclaimed.
Each week storytime one at specific times and days for consistency. Wednesday's around when people are waiting for storytimes feels like one of the sure bets to have the most eyes here, but during or after that has the hurdle of recent stuff distracting them.

2.Some browsers don't like text between pages posted but engagement helps thread sustainability, so gather a bunch of information, annotations and trivia in the form of quotes, video or pics for mass replies to the appropriate pages.

3.Respond to subsequent questions, as well as thematically appropriate requests if there's time and interest. For example posting other samples or even whole issues from the creative team that show progress in their craft (e.g. Tradd Moore's art evolving from Luther Strode to Silver Surfer Black) or sequel material, whether or not from the same team, as a comparative lesson where it fell short. Or don't, just a thought to help inform and reflect on past and present decisions.

4.Once there's enough post traffic: poll browsers on how they feel about the work and, from what the OP can manage, their preferred day and hour for subsequent storytimes, as well as what they'd like to see added and swapped out from the schedule. That way a majority of invested posters can self sustain the threads, overall or for the theme of that month.

>You'd have to seperate comics and cartoons into two different boards.
It basically comes down to this, I'm primarily a comic guy nowadays, and I'm exhausted seeing comic-related threads get pushed to page 9 or 10 by the five billionth Amazing Digital Circus thread.
>>
>>155308925
This!
Make a lot more.
>>
>>155310575
Make me.
>>
>>155308736
more rco sites so you can get more readers
I'd also say a shorter timer or less ass captcha because storytimes are now way more trouble than they're worth but that would just result in more spam so it's not a good idea.
>>
>>155308736
I started to read comics then RCO went down so I stopped
>>
>>155308925
I did a long series storytiming comics and do it to get people to talk about things and got no more than a handful of replies in every thread. Magister's Spider-Man storytimes barely get a response. The only storytimes that get responses are things with an attached outside fandom i.e. the serial killer comics because of true crime fans and things like Transformers and TMNT because of cartoonfags.
>>
>>155311938
>Spider-Man
You need to storytime better, less common comics.
>>
>>155308736
You need the people who the run place to care about comics.
>>
>>155308925
I try. Most of them get nothing. The few that do get vitriol.
>>
>>155312284
Shut up, contrarian
>>
>>155314947
Do you participate in those threads?
>>
>>155315714
of course he doesn't
>>
>>155308736
Post more comics. Talk about them and recommend ones that have decently similar themes or vibes to others when you have threads. And don't be afraid to bump your thread and throw some shit out there. Comic threads need all the help they can get.
>>
>>155308736
Does anyone want to do a recommendation round? I recommend something, you recommend me something?

It would be best to separate the board, but jannies are gay. Only other way is to spam the board with comic threads and push out all the shitty cartoon generals.
>>
>>155316790
What's your taste?
>>
>>155308736
Actually moderate the shitty cartoon threads. For every one comic thread there's about 9 threads about whatever errant and pervy thought enters a cartoon fag's mind.
>>
>>155316631
Here are two threads I created on a similar topic, three years apart. Notice the enthusiasm from other anons in the first thread, and how much less there is in the second thread. Most of the posts in both were mine.

I miss the days of lantern posting and cosmic marvel. Those were good days.
>>
>>155316885
I like stories with a magical realism element, speculative scifi, horror, thriller, mystery, historical fiction and autobio

Some of the stuff I like/have liked so far are: Doom Patrol, Watchmen, Sandman, Ghost World, Love and Rockets, Hellboy, The Goon (which I picked up recently but I am LOVING)... What about you?
>>
>>155316631
Wednesdays usually get a good comic thing going with the story times but again it's hard to keep traction in the waves of empty simpsons quotes, FOP shipping threads and the like.
>>
The comic anons should just flood the board with comic threads on Labor Day just to see what happens.
>>
>>155317731
I don't know what it says about the two audiences but I don't know that I have it in me to just spam stupid shit
>>
>>155317105
I like to read obscure stuff from the early 2000's from prior but I'm open minded enough to try whatever
Usually with some sort of interesting trivia attached and didn't win an Eisner or was written by someone who's already known for superhero comics or licensed stuff
As for a rec, it's unconventional but I think you'd might find some enjoyment out of it given you mentioned like horror, Pim & Francie
Don't expect a coherent plot, it's literally a collection of unfinished comics
>>
We got cartoon fags spamming toddler shows now.
>>
>>155317731
Don't forget to bump other comic threads, otherwise you're just killing other comic threads.
>>155317858
So spam good shit.

The Prime threads were great. Please god let them return next year with a proper ongoing.
The ASM threads are good for mutual bile fascination and struggle session.
>>
>>155318040
DC in general has been kind of a solid okay. Not across the board, they're not perfect, but there's not really as much to bitch about as there is with whatever the fuck marvel thinks they're doing.
>>
>>155317988
>Don't forget to bump other comic threads, otherwise you're just killing other comic threads.
I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be the tougher part than the making of threads. Everyone has a list of shit they want to talk about, but comic posters are going to be just as uninterested in posting in a thread about something they don't care about as cartoon posters.
>>
>>155318146
I mean that's certainly an element to it. I'm not hanging around X-men threads just because I want there to be another comic thread.

I think something we forget is that there used to be a bit more overlap between cartoons and comics. Way back when you had good super hero shows it was easy to bridge the gap between to two mediums. But when was the last GOOD super hero show? One that felt like it cared about the material? Justice league Action was decent fun but it got ZERO exposure. My Adventures with Superman was ass, nobody cares about Caped Crusader, and the only retards who want to talk about Friendly Neighborhood were diseased foot fags. If somehow suddenly EMH was announced as a comeback, with someone like Yost as show runner the whole board would lose it's collective mind.
>>
>>155318138
DC doesn't have a sense of someone spiteful from behind the wheel ramming the picnic table because enraged equals engaged.
They at least attempt for some solid storytelling, although that recent Superman bout after Prime was some real heavy lazer slop.
>>
>>155318470
At the very least it seemed like someone was trying to make something cool.
>>
>>155317911
I'll check it out, it looks cool and I like the inkblot art style mixed with horror thing it's got going on. How well-versed are you in underground comix? I have a few I can recommend but I don't want to recommend stuff you've already read.
>>
>>155318701
>How well-versed are you in underground comix?
The big names I've heard of but haven't sank my teeth entirely
I've read half of the original Hate series and some of Cerebus
Love & Rockets is something that's been on my backlog but I've been mostly prioritizing the stuff that isn't critically acclaimed or brought up often
>>
>>155308736
Nothing can be done.
Broadly 4chan is declining, I mean we love to yell at newfags, I'm somewhat of a newfag myself, it's been too long for me to reminder the precise year but I think I was an election tourist. Meaning I've been here 10 years.
What new young anon is coming to 4chan?
This place has enough going to keep limping on, but it's a dwindling pool.

Everything is dead and dying and we can't do anything to help it.
>>
>>155318767
You might like Dog Boy by Steve Lafler or really any of his work that was originally published via Cathead Comics, he has a bunch of stand alone series but the one I enjoyed most is Dog Boy.
>>
>>155318838
Reposting this
As much as people give shit to people who are new here (and believe me, it's warranted in certain cases) 4chan is oddly incapable of nostalgic discussion for anything starting around the early 2010's unless it was already something this place liked to begin with.
Late Gen Z nostalgia is everywhere on the internet and there are dedicated followings still making art and cracking jokes for games and shows that the Anons here never liked
Those people are not Anons and will never be Anons because 4chan isn't a destination like it once was
>>
>>155318865
I like what I'm seeing so far
Thanks
>>
>>155318880
Thanks for yours as well, I'm excited to give it a read. Honestly, it's been a pleasant chat!
