I'm thinking of getting some silver age books from the DC Finest line. What are some you'd all recommend?
>>
>>155398951
Don't.
>>
>>155398992
Why
>>
>>155398951
Doom Patrol is good. It's somewhat hampered by the usually silver age overly verbose writing but the book is fuckin' weird enough that it's still worth it.
>>
>>155399027
He's telling you don't because he works at Marvel
>>
>>155399031
>>155398951
Second Doom Patrol. It was nutty. I have the Lantern and Flash ones too though I don't think I'm as huge a fan. The Superman bronze age one was good.
>>
DC Finests are great. I need to pick up some more. They really need to get some more post crisis series.
>>
>>155398951
>>155399071
I don't remember how much of the silver age collection I read, but I didn't like the Flash stuff. Every issue would be an interesting premise and beginning, and then it felt like it ended 2/3 of the way through the story instead of actually finishing; and I'm pretty sure the page counts reflected that too. I'm assuming the book had a backup that truncated all those issues but I never looked into it.
>>
>>155399736
A lot of Silver Age stuff likes to pull a super power switcheroo where the big scary crisis ends up being an almost non issue because Flash used to his super speed at the last second to not really do the thing he was mind controlled to do.
>>
>>155398951
You don't need recommendations. Only ~5 of the nearly 100 DC Finest titles are silver age stories. Just buy them.
>>
Jack Kirby's The Demon is one of my favorite. I don't know if his other works are out in Finest yet, but those are good too.
>>
>>155399838
That's a 70s book.
>>
>>155399867
It's a good book

Do it. Get them all
>>
>>155399052
I think the worst part about Epic Collection is that they have so many, but none of them are in print. I ordered all of DC Finest and have a special shelf set aside just for them. Why can't I do the same with Marvel?
>>
>>155399804
>nearly 100
There's only 69.
>>
>>155398951
Get Doom Patrol and Legion. I havent read but an anon told me the Spectre one is worth it, and I'm planning on buying next month.
>>
>>155398951
Doom patrol, legion, jla
>>
>>155401709
I was thinking of getting JLA and GL.
>>
>>155399767
Did he premiere in Showcase? Some of those issues might have still been Showcase starring him, if so, but it was interesting that they were really just science fiction stories with Barry Allen being the guy who experienced it. I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but it felt like like a series of productions that kept running out of money before they were done so everyone just abruptly dies on the way back to their home planet on the next page.

>>155401652
I can't believe they had the nuts to up the price for them, too. I've never been a Marvel guy, but there's a few runs I'm interested in -- now Miller's Daredevil is fucking $110 MSRP for two paperbacks. They're out of their minds.
As someone who really only starting filling shelves in 2019 and quickly had to face printing in the COVID era, I can't believe the stuff DC is actually putting to paper, and in formats other than 1600 page monstrosities. It's awesome.
>>
>>155401665
Counting the books that are solicited and available to buy but not yet out? No, it's close to 100.
>>
>>155398951
Best way to get ostranders suicide squad

Also currently one of the only easy ways to get the original colored Killing Joke

If they do another 2 trades beyond what's solicited, will be the only way to get PAD's Supergirl in trade form
>>
>>155401844
Oh sorry, completely missed that you were looking for Silver Age recs

Can't got wrong with those Flash books
>>
>>155399052
OP works at DC, so is balances out.
>>
>>155401744
Silver age GL is kinda ass
>>
>>155401919
Really? I read the showcase issues and it seemed entertaining enough.
>>
Aquaman
Blue Beetle
Doom Patrol
Metamorpho
Plastic Man is golden age but it's still worth picking up if you can find it
>>
>>155401828
He can't buy them if they're not out.
>>
>>155402467
Fuck the Blue Beetle volume

>>No Charlton Blue Beetle #6
>>No Americomics #1 (which has the proto Watchmen team of Charlton heroes, though the upcoming Question DCF will have it)
>>The cover, title, and most of the stories are Daniel Garrett Blue Beetle shit

They should have put all of the Charlton characters stories in an anthology book ala the DCF horror and western stuff. Would suck for Question fans but at least it would be better organized and they could leverage JLI and the Oneil Question stuff to get the Weisman Captain Atom stuff collected at last
>>
>>155401796
I said it in the other thread but the worst part is when shit runs get scalped to high heaven. I am not paying that much for DeFalco F4.

I liked Justice League
>>
>>155402863
Wait for the Omnibus. Especially since the omnibus will have FF Unlimited and Unplugged, both of which resolve dangling plot threads from the main book DeFalco could not be added to have resolve
>>
>>155402863
Which DeFalco FF Epics are like that? The only one I had to pay rape dollar money for ($120) was the first DeFalco Epic
>>
>>155404192
Strange Days. Which is the last one before Heroes Return.
>>
>>155404149
This is one of those cases were I wound up just buying the actual floppies. Which I got for a song in comparison.
>>
>>155404416
Seriously? That one used to sell dirt cheap for ages. Fuck, I hit my copy for like $20 online a couple of years back
>>
>>155405215
Yeah shit just sneaks up on you. It's crazy.
>>
>>155401936
If you already liked what you read, go for it. It's definitely not for everyone, but I find it fun the way it bounces between classic sci-fi and sitcom shenanigans.
>>
>>155402467
Good list.
>>
>>155402749
Interesting.
>>
>>155398951
Be wary of DC Finest in general. Especially Batman & Catwoman. Lots of typos & misprints not from the original published scans.

FUCKING PLASTIC MAN!!! Also the two Green Arrow books are stellar, same for the lone Legion of Super-Heroes volume
>>
>>155414779
I don't think that's how weed works
>>
>>155414779
>Green Arrow
>stellar
Lol
For Legion, I really don't see the hype. It's so boring with how melodramatic it gets over relationships. Yeah they're teens. You can do more than just relationship drama.
>>
>>155415058
These old comics catch too much undue praise.
>>
>>155415058
>>155417317
Fuck you.
>>
>>155418870
I'm sorry you're a liberal teenage girl but those comics suck.
>>
>>155418944
Stop being on your period.
>>
>>155419798
You're the only one upset.
>>
I'm trying to get through the Golden Age, but they're so dense.
>>
>>155398951
Here's my opinion based on the ones I've bought
>Great
Batman: Year One and Two
Doom Patrol: World's Strangest Heroes
Doom Patrol: Death of the Doom Patrol
Horror: The Devil's Dorrway
Western: The Hangman Never Loses
Hawkman: Wings Across Time
Fourth World: When the Old Gods Die
>Good
Catwoman: Life Lines
Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters
Aquaman: King of Atlantis
Deadman: How Many Times Can A Guy Die
Batman: Killing Joke and Other Stories
Batman: Death in the Family
>Meh
Catwoman: Vengeance and Vindication
Science Fiction: The Gorilla World
Super Friends: The Fury of the Super Foes
Sgt. Rock: The Rock of Easy Co.
Peacemaker: Kill for Peace

I have like 5 others but haven't read them yet
>>
>>155421112
>Horror: The Devil's Dorrway
>Western: The Hangman Never Loses

I need to look into the genre volumes.
>>
>>155422109
I'm hyped for the new horror and western ones. The romance one too.
>>
>>155411480
>>155413114
Man. I was looking forward to picking up the Catwoman volumes with the prospect of finally being able to collect the full Balent run in physical form, but now I'm a little wary.
>>
Year One and The Longbow Hunters are def the best ones (from the ones you mentioned)
>>
Deadman, though I really only like the original Strange Adventures run and don't care for how they tried to run him into the ground later after his original premise came to a conclusion.
>>

>>155422375
I know the first Catwoman DC Finest released had problems like this but I never bought it. Just Batman ones.
>>
>>155421112
Thanks anon.
>>
>>155421112
I forgot they were reprinting Super Friends. I found one of the Showcase Presents volumes of it a couple years back and enjoyed it.
>>
>>155423628
Looks like ass.
>>
>>155398951
I read the Legion of Super Heroes silver age stuff and it was pretty good.
Maybe it was after the silver age because it was pretty decent to read.
