How do you feel about The Sandman by Neil Gaiman right now, considering all that's happened?
>>
>>155403417
I just bought this but haven't read it yet.
What happened?
>>
>>155403417
I LOVE most of it, i loved the locke and key crossover too, the tv show sucks poo chute.
>>155403494
fan girls got to meet him and he asked for sex and they said yes but cried later on and hes the bad guy.
>>
>>155403494
Gaiman just died in a sledding accident.

>>
>>155403588
NOOOOOOOOOOO OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
NOOOOOOOOOO
>>
>>155403515
who cares about women?
>>
>>155403696
other women.
>>
>>155403417
I tried to read it when I heard it was much more heady than other comic books. Then he goes up to space to meet Batman at Batman's space station and I realized it's still just a dumb comic book.
>>
There were some great messages in Sandman, shame Gaiman couldn’t follow them
>>
>>155404259
>imprison women for saying no.
thats very gaimen.

That Netflix sticker in the corner isn't a sticker btw. It's part of the cover.
>>
>>155404747
i know my friend, when i finally got around to buying the compendium 3 for invincible it had that "sticker on it"
its so fucking retarded that they make it look like a sticker aswell, althought im just as retarded for buying it
>>
>>155403417
In college I knew this super feminist girl who was a huge Gaiman fan, wish I could've seen her face when she found out.
>>
>>155405082
Why does some random from years ago live rent free in your head?
>>
It's pretty cool hay Wonder Woman is tied to this
>>
>>155405857
Morpheus fucked Wonder Woman's daughter, right?
>>
>>155403417
I don't care about what Gayman does in his personal life, Sandman's still good
>>
>>155403417
I'd never finished it, and I'm pretty sure it's overrated, even aside from Neil maybe being a creep.

Probably you can read Preludes and Nocturns, Season of Mists and Brief Lives and you'd be good.
>>
>>155403417
Sandman is never going to not be a huge defining book for me, when I read it as a teenager it was one of the big comics that really changed my perspective on what the medium could do. Gaiman is probably a piece of shit, whatever, I can separate the art from the artist.
>>
>>155405427
She isn't gonna have sex with you.
>>
>>155403417
Same as 2008, I don't care if the "creator" had dirty sex with other people.
I only care about comicbooks.
>>
>>155403417
Kneel
>>
>>155403494
Gaiman had a sexual relationship with a woman he and his wife had hired as a babysitter, seemingly with the wife's permission, and evidence from messages and things like that suggests the babysitter was OK with it at the time but became not OK with it years later and accused him of sexual abuse.
>>155403417
Personally I don't give a shit about what any artist does outside of their art. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to listen to ANY music. Not rock, not pop, not rap, not even classical.
>>
>>155404188
that never happens

But he does go to the JLI headquarters and talks to Blue Beetle, Mr Miracle, and Martian Manhunter.
>>
>>155404188
All comic books are just dumb comic books, whether it's Batman or some feminists talking about her life. Drawings aren't taken seriously in the west by proper adults.
>>
>>155403417
It's fine. Not a masterpiece but not bad either.
>>
>>155403417
I bought the absolute editions of I-V, Death and Overture to support him
>>
>>155403417
It's pretty good but I always thought it was overrated. I wonder if that story about the writer with the captured muse reads differently now
>>
>>155411928
Oh, it does.
>>
>>155409570
There also seems to be at least some evidence that it was kind of an organized takedown by right-wing media elements in bongland, but I haven't dove into that particular rabbit hole enough to make any kind of decision about it.
>>
>>155403417
I have plans to read it as soon as he dies and not a moment sooner.
>>
>>155414366
Why does it matter? That's such a weird, arbitrary line to draw.
>>
>>155414377
I don't see how.
>>
I really enjoyed Sandman when I was in high school. It was my first exposure to comics that were a bit deeper than capeshit. Made some friends in undergrad who I introduced it to and we all enjoyed it. I always preferred the anthology stories (World's End and Fables + Reflections) more than the actual storyarcs.
I have been reluctant to re-read it now that I'm in my 30s because I think it's one of those entry level stories that seem great when you haven't read much similar stuff. I'm sure parts of it hold up but I remember thinking that Lucifer was the better long running Vertigo title.

Overture had some great art but the story was mediocre.
>>155414377
There is probably some amount of royalties that Gaiman gets. If you wait until after he dies he won't get any money from buying Sandman. Granted Anon could just pirate it.
>>
Sure are alot of misogynists in this thread

As Nielsen gaimen said. We need to #believe all womem #stand up for she
>>
>>155414442
What do you read these days that your standards are so high?
>>
>>155414488
That's the funniest thing, he's guilty by his own standards whether he actually did it or not.
>>
>>155414297
Believe all women shitlord. Gaimem told us to
>>
>>155414488
You think you're sticking it to him but all you're doing is building more support for the #believe all women movement. Congrats, your ironic shitposting has made you join the other side.
>>
>>155414442
You could pirate it, you could also buy it used. It's a comic that ended 30 years ago that's been in print this entire time.

I was always a death of the author kind of guy, so Sandman is still my favorite comic series ever.
But Gaiman really turned out to be some human trash and it makes sad I gave him money, I would have rather pirated it if i knew
>>
Do you dare enter gaimen magical garden bathtub realm?
>>
>>155414525
>noooooo you have to defend the guy who wouldn't piss on you if a women set you on fire
>>
>>155414497
I still mostly read anthologies. I'm a big fan of Peter S. Beagle and Ray Bradbury and I've recently been getting into old magazines like Black Mask and Weird Tales. I actually also read most of Gaiman's prose works as well (haven't done Norse Mythology because this was after he became a cucked faggot but I've read three of his short story anthologies, American Gods, Anansi Boys, and Ocean at the End of the Lane).
I actually really really liked the first part of Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader which he also wrote.

In terms of non-capeshit comics I already mentioned Lucifer and I also read a good amount of Hellblazer. Recently I read the Darwyn Cooke adaptations of the Parker stories and thought they were phenomenal (I'm biased though because Cooke is probably my favorite comics creator) and I've also read a bunch of The Spirit, both Eisener's original run and the DC relaunch that Cooke started and was continued by other people afterward.

In terms of capeshit I'm going through a bunch of bronze age Batman stuff and looking at some post-Miller, pre-Bendis Daredevil.
>>
>>155414604
You can just not meddle into it, you don't have to have an opinion on everything. Either way, you're siding with the women so congrats, you played yourself.
>>
>>155414575
I feel that Gaiman was killed and replaced by some kind of robot or reptilian sometime in the early 2000s. He had a very good outlook on comics and artistic endeavors and seemed to genuinely care about storytelling as an artform. He seemed to, in good faith, think about the whole Tumblr mentality about fiction and ultimately decide that he didn't agree with it (you can find this in the introduction to his collection "Trigger Warning" which is meant to be a somewhat sardonic title).

Then he just becomes a huge corporate sellout and completely ruins his image when he defends the Netflix Sandman adaptation and doubles down on the whole #metoo garbage. It's like a completely different person to the genuine art-for-the-sake-of-art person he started out as during the British Invasion.
>>
>>155414667
>dont meddle in it!
>leave the women feminist who sats believe all women alone!

Anon, no matter how much you try, he won't fuck you
>>
>>155414667
No, I will enjoy bad things happening to bad people and I'm not sorry.
>>
>>155414719

>>
>>155414705
netflix sandaman was so fucking cheap and mediocre; it fills me with so much sadness to see it like that. Dream and all the Endless looked like some dudes/dudettes and not larger than universes entities. They didn't even give him the black eyes...
>>
>>155414740
>you're a feminist if you aren't defending the feminist who turned out to be a sex pest like all male feminists are
Trying too hard.
>>
>>155414740
>nooo u are the cucked feminist
>not me, the guy defending the cucked feminist

Lol ok anon
>>
>>155414726
The hubris and irony of gaimen downfall is delicious
>>
>>155414742
Yes. I think that Sandman is fundamentally too fantastic (in the literal 'fantasy' sense) to be properly adapted in live action and an animated series would have been much smarter. Given the relative success of that sci-fi anthology (Love Death and Robots?) you can easily imagine various storylines or one-offs being told in different artstyles too.

I think it is extremely obvious that it is bad and I think it was less obvious but still pretty apparent that it was going to be bad well before it actually came out/filming was finished. There is no way that Gaiman could have both been involved with it in any capacity and also not seen how shit it was and was going to turn out but he didn't care and in fact doubled down and attacked the actual fans of the source material who were upset over what was being done to it.
>>
>>155414753
I'm not defending anyone, cucky.

I like his works, and thanks to social media exposing their every horrid ingrained neurosis, I have come to utterly despise women, so everything has worked out.

nobody seems to discuss how the re-coloring fundamentally alters the original material and in my eyes inferior to the original. This is just one example of how they shifted the entire color palette to make the comic look more realistic, in turn losing all of the "pop" and charm of the original colors. We'll never get a complete restoration of the original colors, due to the fact Gaiman himself made that change. Swamp Thing also got fucked by recoloring and is only just being fixed.

That's because the comic wrapped up before the internet was a thing. If it were being published today, all the niche weirdo contrarians here would be in love with it and there'd be a permanent Sandman general. Until they discover women really like it too.
>>
>>155403417
I didn't like it much back then quite honestly.
>>
>>155417720
I noticed that when I read it years ago. I fucking hate recolors.
>>
Gaiman has pretty much been shown to be innocent of this crime, but neither the feminists or right-wingers want to admit it; the feminists because they serve their ideology first and foremost and they’d rather sacrifice the innocent than admit their ideology made a mistake and the right-wingers because they’re mad at what Gaiman said during MeToo and want a scalp, even without it being justly acquired.

I loved it. Tried to reread it recently after not reading it since I was a teenager and for some reason stalled out and got distracted before finishing volume 2. I think its so like, quiet and contemplative that rereads feel a little bit like going through the motions. You remember pretty much everything that happens and it all just kind of unfolds, which is the elegance and weight of the first read but it does mean it doesn't have this propulsive quality to pull you along through a reread.

Which is a shame because I do need to reread it, because I definitely feel like the last volume or two were a bit over my head when I read them at like 16. I was fine up to that point, first 7 volumes or so, but a lot of the longer term thematic stuff about death and art, purpose and struggling to reconcile things with yourself would benefit from me being better at interpreting art and understanding life a bit better as an adult. I definitely picked up more of that subtext in issue 7 with deaths first appearance on the aborted reread. Its actually impressive how subtle its played but how clear it is that it was setting up the very end-you're supposed to think Dream has renewed purpose and optimism because hes been reminded the jobs of the endless are important. When in light of the ending his bounceback is because the whole experience has subconsciously made him realise death could be a way out.
>>
>>155403417
>considering all that's happened?
It seems strange to me that people would let the actions of a creator change their opinions of the creation. Maybe it's just a symptom of parasocial relationships people have with celebrities, I dunno. Like I knew someone who was a fan of LostProphets and threw away their CDs after all the shit came out about Ian Watkins but like, you enjoyed that music. You thought it was good music. How does finding out one of the people responsible for it was a pedo suddenly make it bad? Regardless of what Gaimain may or may not have done it doesn't change the quality of the comic.
>>
>>155403417
It's still good. Nothing really changes for me. I won't get anything new from him though. People want to compare this to JK Rowling but Harry Potter is genuinely trash. It's a bad series made at the right time so it's better if you don't revisit it.
>>
>>155414705
>Then he just becomes a huge corporate sellout

Racists really can’t handle Death’s casting and Neil being fine with it because as a writer he obviously isn’t as obsessed with mere visuals like most “fans” who throw tantrums when Neil doesn’t join their bigotry
>>
>>155403417
I think the spinoffs are generally better than the main series, particularly Mystery Theater

Not gonna tell you he's not a degenerate, but all the accusations, as far as I've seen them, seem to be just women who were into it until they changed their mind retroactively.
>>
>>155414604
Yeah, that's how principles work.

If you vehemently believe leopards eating people's faces is a bad thing, it's still bad when a member of the "let leopards eat people's faces" party gets his face eaten by a leopard.

I mean, you don't have to intervene if you don't want to but cheering for the leopard only makes it worse.
>>
>>155422882
The show looks like it had a budget of $20. VFX are trash and about half the actors are terrible with Rose standing out the most. Black Death was stupid but Neil and disingenuous faggots like you try to deflect and pretend that is the only criticism of the dumpster fire that is the show. Knowingly defending a shit product (because it is a product not any form of art or passion) by deflecting all criticism through ad hominem claims of biggotry or racism is a large part of what makes Gaiman a sellout.
>>
>>155423994
Nah, you’re just being a dishonest asshole. People get called racist when their “criticism” boils down to just whining about casting, which about 98% of all complaints regularly revolve around.
>Well I’m not racist!
Well congrats, anon. You want a special snowflake “I’m not racist” medal or something? The fact remains that this place has spent several years screaming Neil Gaiman is a sellout because he said he was okay with the casting decisions, and racist dipshits here can’t accept that because a black actor playing their waifu triggers them.
>>
>>155423994
>Neil is a sellout because I didn’t like the adaptation he worked on!

Whoa, look out, we have a real critic amongst is.
>>
>>155424115

>>
>>155403417
The actions of the author have little effect on my appreciation of the work. However, I've been considering the Sandman to be an overrated series for some time now.
>>
>>155424085
Hey faglord, if you're done being a disingenuous kike, maybe try addressing my criticisms?
See I articulated why I thought the show was garbage and you ignored all of that to harp on about criticisms I never actually made. Your obvious samefagging is only slightly less pathetic than the idiotic shit you are spewing every time you post.
>>
>>155425037
I don’t care what your criticism is.
