>completely cool with the USA exerting influence with violence throughout the world, even helps them do it
>can't cope with the idea of a billionaire doing it unilaterally
really shows you how outdated Watchmen is, today Blake and Veidt would be reluctant allies and he'd kill Rorsharch for asking questions about why Manhattan disappeared

Goes to show how simple minded you are.

Blake had no problem with Veidt intending to kill half of New York, hell like you said he worked as an assassin for the USA and stood beside Manhattan while he slaughtered Vietnam. The part that broke him was the insane method that Veidt was going to use, the motivation, and the probability of it’s success. If Veidt’s plan was to, I dunno, hold the world hostage with genetically engineered super virus that kills half the world’s population and only he has cure so if any country wants it then they have to disarm their nukes or something, I doubt Blake would have care. Hell, he’d probably join Veidt because that’s a stupid plan that any hack thriller writer would come up with and would never work so it’d be fun to have a front row seat to watch it fail. The squid on the other hand is so absurd and violent and yet Blake can’t think of a single reason why it wouldn’t accomplish what Veidt wants it to do. The issue wasn’t the mass murder Veidt was planning, the issue was that the mass murder was going be done in the most comic book way possible to bring peace and that it was 100% going to WORK.

He does really well. His or Watchmens problem is a discrepancy or ambitiousy in character-drawing-reaction.
For example the Comedian is crying because of what Veid wants to do and he doesnt understand. But we also know what a ruthless guy he was at the riots and especially Vietnam, shooting a women pregnant with his baby. So it is a little bit over the top for him crying. Shocked, confused or repulsed is ok, but this crying feels weird for such a hard U.S. agent. We see his softer side with Silk Spectre 2, but since all of his history is sprinkeld through the story, for me he is harder to sob.

>it is a little bit over the top for him

no, no you're forgetting in addition to the other thigns he is, he's also a huge racist

he doesn't give a shit what happens in vietnam because it's happening to people and places he doesn't give a shit about

but veidt's plan happening in saigon wouldn't have the same impact on people's minds for the same reason, so veidt chooses for it to happen in the one place where it's going to matter while leaving world governments intact to respond

comedian understands the logic of that and doesn't like the light it casts his prior actions in because he thought his cruelty was necessary, but now he sees he's not the big man telling people how it's going to be
>>
>>155410929
I feel retarded right now, and I haven't read the comic in years, but is it happening in every major city in the world just a Zack Snyder movie thing? In the comic it exclusovely happens in New York and not the rest of the world?
>>
>>155410929
Thats a good point. But we see at the riots how ruthless he is. Since New York is a moloch, i dont think he has any feelings for them that he bursts out in crying. When we see him trying to rape Silk Spectre 1 or having a (vientamese) baby, he doesnt really show that has a big bond to people that are near him.
We get little things like he caring for his real daughter. And since Before Watchmen isnt canon to most here, the bond betwen the Kennedys cant be taken into the storytell8ng of the Graphic Novel.
>>
>>155410991
It is only in New York. The movie changed things to make it more dramatically and bigger. Maybe to explain some points better. For example why would Russia cares that much if things happen to the US? Especially when it is Dr Mahattan? So it becomes a worldwide event.
It tries to explain the problem why should the world care about an interdimensional attack on the US and the movies changing it from a foe that could attack the whole earth to Mahattan.

For those of you that don't understand the joke. The sign is a subtle joke. The shop is called "Sneed's Feed & Seed", where feed and seed both end in the sound "-eed", thus rhyming with the name of the owner, Sneed. The sign says that the shop was "Formerly Chuck's", implying that the two words beginning with "F" and "S" would have ended with "-uck", rhyming with "Chuck". So, when Chuck owned the shop, it would have been called "Chuck's Fuck and Suck".
>>
>>155411164
The problem is that if the perpetrator is Manhattan, the US is going to catch blame for the rest of the world getting attacked. The movie ending leads to war, or at the very least, reparations from the US.
The alien projected visions across the world to make the threat active.

But also i dont mind that ending in the context it is a movie and Manhattan is seen as a Person. So you could argue thats like blaming a soldier gone rogue or a terrorist attacking another country. That country isnt responsible but could be seen too careless, letting a weapon of mass destruction walking around.
>>

"Chuck's Luck and Shuck"

The US would be held responsible. Manhattan is both a soldier and a WMD.

And a person. I dont know if the public knows how he is mostly passive in his actions or they think he has a mind of his own.
Otherwise he is just a powerfull person. You dont think the U.S is responsible for Trump or the Democratic Party. Or even the full Republican Party. You know Trump is responsible and his minions.

>comedian's whole philosophy on life is a kind of nihilistic cynical absurdists gallow's humour.
>he basically views the world as absurd, and himself as absurd, therefore morality and justice are absurd too.
>it's all a joke
>dresses up like a super hero so he can act like a pschopathic mass murdering rapist and have people cheer for him
>brutally murder the innocent civilians of foreign nations so he can go home to brutalize the citizens of his own nation
>ruthlessly assassinate the same US president that he meets at a fancy dinner party celebrating his contribution to America
>it's all just a joke
>extends his attitude of nihilistic humour to his own superhero team-mates and by doing so plants the idea of using an absurdist premise to fight the greatest threat to humanity there is, the cold war
>Veidt takes his sentiment and uses it to hatch a plan to kill millions to save billions, an expression of nihilistic contempt bigger than Blake could ever imagine
Blake finally sees the horror of what his philosophy on life has led to, and the conclusion of his thought process in Veidt's plan. His entire world comes crashing down on him and he has a mental breakdown.
He's stripped bare of all one-liners
He has nothing left except the cold dead results of his nihilistic immorality
It's all a joke
and he can't laugh, because it's just too fucking bleak.

Well Blake it turns out life is NOT a reductive joke, it's just a remake of an old Outer Limits episode and not even one of the good ones...

Moore heavily used by stuff he got inspired by. See it as a spark that gave him a great idea. His talent is mixing the stuff he watched into full, compelling stories.
But thats quite common. Simpsons is based upon Gronings family. Games of Thrones is England and the war of roses.
>>
>>155416717
Than why dont does he get angry, blow the plan instead of whining?
>>
>>155417246
It's too big of an operation for one man to take down (even a veteran super hero). He plans to expose the whole thing. Veidt doesn't trust him to keep a lid on what he's learned which is why he assassinates Blake in the beginning of the story.
>>
>>155405009
It isn't?
>>
>>155417084
>it's just a remake
No. "The Architects of Fear" was one of multiple stories to use the "alien threat to unite humanity" ploy. It happened in EC, Kurt Vonnegut did it, I think so did Theodore Sturgeon, and likely others. Moore's version is a combination of these and it's recontextualized into the world he created with Watchmen. Just know that Watchmen is a combination of many sources of inspiration and real-life people and events.
>>
>>155417084
The outer limits thing is overblown, the idea is similar but not the plot, and it’s not like either invented the idea of a false flag. The War of the worlds radio broadcast of ‘38 causing a panic is arguably just as much inspiration
