I don't think Disney took full advantage of Lilo and Stitches franchisability

Stitch himself is a charismatic and popular little bugger, they could honestly make him the next Mickey if they wanted to, especially since he has his own Minnie already. I don't think they'd ever risk that though, and there's no real need to. As far as the experiments, eh, it's not like they ever planned on using 628 of them, and at least two of them are just plain regular pets.

He was always intended to be a generational bridge now that the nostalgic warmth the micky once had is lost and him being seen as purely a brand trademark. It's also why Disney keeps bringing in Haiwaii as a set dressing with post 2000s media, classic Americana they used to pull from has run dry and it's seen as kitsch, but Haiwaii is that middle ground where it's still generationally fresh and Haiwaii istself is by its very founding an civic American project. Doesn't matter if you're white, black or asian, there is no darker aspects to the history that overshadow it like classic Americana today.
