Trans superhero characters are often disliked here and seen as bad. I think they have potential so I’d like to workshop them. Please keep this SFW I beg you
>>155412203I really liked how much Dreamer was workshopped in previous threads, but I don’t like how sexual it got. So I’m going to repost the idea minus the sex part. >Dreams only exist around the person dreaming with everything outside of them being an undefined void. >in order to remain inside a dream, Dreamer must camouflage herself to maintain the theme of the dream, or risk destabilization >if discovered, Dreamer will be at the mercy of whoever is dreaming as the mind tries to reconcile the existence of a foreign element. >the longer Dreamer stays in a role, the more the role rubs off on her, risking mental contamination or her forgetting what her original mission was>if the dreamer is lucid, it becomes even more risky for Dreamer due to the potential for direct manipulation >within these dreams, Dreamer’s primary goals are information gathering and the elimination of hostile dream entities
>>155412322Some direct reposts from last thread>Asking someone a question in a dream will have them automatically tell you the truth, because the mind thinks of an answer before deciding whether to speak or not. This gives her an advantage because she can ask anything she wants and immediately get a truthful answer.>A dream only exists within close proximity of the person dreaming it, because people dream of scenarios and situations, not entire universes. This puts her at greater risk of being absorbed, but also means she can be close to her target at all times.>Dreams are mercurial and fluid, and a single word out of place to the dreamer can change the dream entirely.
>>155412203Here’s my pitch for Featherweight. She’s a former member of the league of assassins with an aura around her that mimics super strength instead of true super strength think Superboy. She left after seeing Damien’s success because she wanted to be rich and famous instead of hiding in the shadows. Once in the real world she struggled with a world that isn’t a meritocracy where you get respected for punching harder basically she’s a younger Booster Gold with a tendency to go for the kill
Take your meds.
>>155412767This is a writing thread.
>>155412322>>155412371I feel like the Dreaming should consider her an interloper. She's an awake, conscious mind directly interacting with and manipulating someone else's dreams. That's got to trigger some kind of "the fuck you think you're doing?" response from DC's cosmology. >>155412506I don't know why but I love the idea that she's genuinely not smart enough to realize that her personal context is completely different than her cousin's and develops a chip on her shoulder about it.
>>155413261Yeah. I really think that Featherweight should be a Booster figure in DC. A fame/social change seeker who is completely inept in an actual social environment because she was raised in a place as sheltered as the League of Assassins
>>155413261I remember Supergirl having her use some kind of Dream Totem that represented her powers, and her needing to use it. What if the Naltoran Dreamer is meant to be the guardian of the Dreaming against interlopers and by using her powers to interfere in dreams, Dreamer is directly violating her family’s cosmic duty that Destiny chose her for. Actually since the power is canonically a chosen one deal, what if her interference in the Dreaming causes a conflict between Dream, Destiny, and Desire
>>155412203>There are no bad charactersYes there is, if you to completely overhaul the character to the point of unrecognition then it was bad.
Also you guys are describing a lamer and gay sleepwalker
>>155413446Not necessarily. It means the core concept was good. There are tons of characters who have been completely overhauled over time. Flash isn’t even the original Flash
>>155413515Not necessarily. Sleepwalker has a directly alien appearance, a pacifist ideology, and was manifested via a dual identity. Plus he was a resident of the dream realm. Dreamer by contrast is a human looking interloper in the dreaming who is regularly hunted for the use of her powers. Personally I think her current writing personality is pretty good with her directly seeking comfort and being forced into bad situations to the point where she almost welcomes ego death at points. But she needs proper enemies and a big story. In some ways she’s almost an anti sleepwalker
>>155413365>morally oblivious Booster Gold-esque figure who hasn't, and probably can't, figure out that she's actually a supervillainFund it.>Featherweight here to save the day from these bigots!>Jesus fucking Christ you murdered all those people!>Trans rights are human rights! Why are you running away? Oh, I get it, spreading the word about the newest hero. It's Featherweight; you know, like boxing! Follow me on Bluesky! I've also got an Insta but don't really post on it!>I don't get why everyone is so upset with me, I thought the Justice League was about justice and shit. It's in the name.>You helped Gorilla Grodd and Professor Zoom steal a subatomic forceps device that allows them to lock quantum states in order to manipulate localized physics and somehow destroyed three buildings while doing so!>Oh, I'm sure some fatcat billionaire is going to be so upset about his missing toy.>CERN is not owned by a billionaire!
>>155413643>Lex Luthor is builds a new power plant that is heavily polluting the surrounding area>Featherweight (who was raised under Al Ghul environmentalism) decides the best course of action is to bomb it >with everyone still inside>”This is ridiculous, you can’t arrest me! Everyone hates Flock cameras, I’m doing the world a favor”>”you took out half the city’s power grid and murdered five people”
>>155413756>Look, I'm not saying people can't disagree with my beliefs, I'm just saying that they should expect lethal force for being so insultingly wrong about things. The truth hurts. Unless there is CNS damage.

>>155412785NTA, but if you care that much about writing, you wouldn't frame your thread with "everything has potential" or going on a spiel about trans characters being seen as bad.Saying something "has potential" isn't praise. The statement itself only points out that what exists is lacking since anything when executed right can work. Complementary, this means that a seemingly intriguing hook can fall flat during execution, and the idea of workshopping someone else's idea carries with it a certain arrogance. Think about it; you are basically saying "I could write a better story" by writing only an elevator pitch. Often it's not the elevator pitch that fails (think of how many series out there have ridiculous premises that seem stupid when said back), it's everything that follows. And I don't care if your feelings are hurt, but trans stories suck. They categorically suck. There are themes of dysphoria within stories that are intriguing and can be pulled off well, but stories of trannies suck when their identity is taken at face-valye instead of coded. Stories about dysphoria only really work if the conflict of self verses the outside world's perceptions is examined and challenged, because otherwise the internal conflict has no grounding. The trans movement lacks that because it's inherently contradictory, since the identities it's followers only affirm the gender roles it tries to dispell, leading to sexist implications. Because of this, trans stories don't exist for introspection, but affirmation to other trans people. Notice how many of them only ever revolve around someone denying their "gEnDeR iDeNtItY," because to them that lack of affirmation is the only conflict they seek to address, because the turmoil that dysphoria brings is never considered as having any sort of grounding against the main character's tRuE SeLf, and any doubt is just easily personified as some fat racist. It's not interesting when it plays out because it turns into power fantasies.
>>155413923Very weird projection.
>>155413929>Pfff, of course I believe in evolution; why would you think I was a creationist?I'm imagining Damien being the unwilling Ted to her Booster because she keeps barging into his life due to learning family dynamics from Tiktok clips of 90s sitcoms.
>>155414077Off day today? /v/ probably has something up to get you going.
>>155414105Are you okay schizo?
>>155414131Hey man, everyone needs a hobby.
>>155414067Also it's a fictional setting. You don't need to make the main character, fake his gender. You're the writer, just make him a woman from the get go.
>>155414067I find them actually quite interesting really.Truth be told trans people are pretty hardcore and not by choice. Even when the whole world is against them they still remain true to themselves. That’s far braver than you or I. Even so, regardless of the interesting dynamics discrimination can bring, I find the characters themselves interesting. Dreamer, Galaxy, Coagula, and Featherweight are all fascinating as people, though Featherweight still needs some development
>>155414089I see it more as an issue of Damien trying to do some level of PR/believing she’s his responsibility. His status as a Robin is what drove her to her “heroics” so it’s his mess to clean up
>>155414623>I find them actually quite interesting really.Truth be told trans people are pretty hardcore and not by choice.OP you can just say you're a tranny, it's okay.>Even when the whole world is against them they still remain true to themselves. That’s far braver than you or I.You consider pedophiles brave? I also feel that you're subconscious is telling you something, if you think trannies aren't widely accepted.
>>155414780I’m not trans dude. I just have a tendency to look into characters whenever /co/ says they’re bad. And usually I end up liking them. I have a knack for seeing what is and isn’t working in a character. A lot of then, minus Featherweight are mostly working, but I’d still like to come up with some ideas. It’s less the arrogance of trying to impose my will on someone else’s story and more so just me enjoying playing with a concept
>>155414836Alright serious question opinions on Miles Morales?
>>155414877I find him interesting as a diametric foil to Peter Parker. In particular I wasn’t much of a fan of him until the first Spiderverse movie and I felt like the second dropped the ball a little with the focus on canon events. Really I feel like Miles needs to break away from Peter’s format a little bit overall I think he is defined by his two traits >1. His desire for connection and diffusion of responsibility. Unlike most marvel heroes, Miles doesn’t have a unique identity and that is actually a core part of his identity. In a fundamental reversal of Peter Parker who pushes people away in order to protect them, Miles Morales is terrified of being alone and possessing the sole responsibility of a matter. He is fundamentally a team player who feels most at home when in a group where he doesn’t have to be the one in charge. This reversal is also reflected in their names. Peter, much like Saint Peter means stone. He is a leader, hard and unflinching in his dedication to responsibility. Parker means of the park, showing that this responsibility is to New York and its people. Miles by contrast means soldier as in good soldiers follow orders while Morales speaks to morals. In other words he is the good soldier content to follow the crowd while attempting to maintain his personal morality
>>155415007You failed the litmus test you're a tranny.
>>155415073By that logic I could accuse you of being a Scientologist. One’s interest in media does not gender make.
>>155414623You didn't even read a single word I typed you self-absorbed, tranny faggot, and that's really the core of it. You creatures don't care about making good stories or humoring anything outside of your ideology, it's always about selfish affirmation with you, and repeated poisoning of that well has signaled that a character being trans means the writer doesn't care about the story anymore.>Truth be told trans people are pretty hardcore and not by choice. Even when the whole world is against them they still remain true to themselves. That’s far braver than you or I.Foremost, nobody's fooled by your third-person tense.Second, there's no bravery in delusion, especially one backed by MSM. You're not brave or oppressed. In fact you're a protected demographic.Third, you wouldn't know this from any trans media. It's always, and I mean always, about the faggotry being accepted by some outside source. It's never an introspection that actually addresses what the dysphoria means, it's just "DAE I like dresses and skirts?" There's no actual depth for what the supposed "true identity" is, because not even you fags think it beyond the aesthetics of womanhood.>regardless of the interesting dynamics discrimination can bring"Can" is not "is," because your media sucks.>Dreamer, Galaxy, Coagula, and Featherweight are all fascinating as peopleNo they are not. If they were not trans, you would not give a shit about them.
>>155415114By your logic Scientologists are pretty hardcore and brave, so shut up.
>>155415155>>155415173You’re the one who chose to come into my thread. Regardless I have an individual reason for liking each of them. >Coagula: interesting member of the Doom Patrol, a very philosophical character in mannerisms, and her recent appearance had a commentary on comic book deaths>Dreamer: a fascinating psychology and power set plus she’s actively adversarial with the United States government >Galaxy: her conflict with the Green Lanterns is interesting as she is the survivor of a genocide that they ignored. I hope the Vane are Guardian creations because then she would effectively be a heroic mirror to Atrocitus >Featherweight: admittedly the weakest but her connection to the league of assassins has some potential. Regardless while you are correct that their trans identity is what brought them to my attention. That is not why I like them as characters. I see characters as individuals but also machines. And if I don’t like something then I try to figure out the issue so I can enjoy them better. I have similar feelings on Space King
>>155415338The only one of them you had anything of substance to say on was Galaxy, and that was a contrivance at best to justify his existence. FFS, you couldn't think of anything to say about Featherweight other than hAs pOteNtIaL even though, again, that's not an argument and just a platitude that admits there's little there. And this isn't your private website you hugbox-seeking faggot. This is a public space for anyone to post on, and you wanted opinions. I'm sorry that more than one person thinks you're a dipshit.Faggot.
if trannies were real women why cant they just read normal women comics
>>155415631I will admit that of them Galaxy has the most substance to her story in works. But overall I think that’s because Maines is doing a very good job on Dreamer and Coagula is already pre built. Also what gave you the impression I was seeking a hug box. I merely wish to engage with these characters on the level of a fan and ideate on potential future stories similar to how /co/ has always done. I do respect your opinion but overall I question why you are even in this thread as it seems to be on a matter you dislike. Also I’d prefer if you didn’t refer to me as transgender. Not because I am offended but merely because it is untrue and this continued assumption is acting as a roadblock to further discussion
>>155412203>[Castration cult] superhero charactersImpossible; nothing autogynephiles or autoandrophiles do can be considered heroic. Same with sodomites and sapphists.

>>155415891With all due respect I feel like I’ve responded to your genuine points in a manner that did answer your question without attempts at self aggrandizement. I truly enjoy each of these characters, but I disagree with DC’s handling of some aspects of their stories: As for your argument on losing control it’s less that and more that I’m struggling to understand why you are here at all. While I appreciate discussion I can’t help but feel like you don’t enjoy these characters, so I ask again. Why engage in the thread at all if you’re just going to end up upset
>>155415338>Parallels to AtrocitiusI’d actually like to see that from a Galaxy run. Her and the Red Lanterns cleaning up the planets that the GL corp ignored showing that the Guardians of the Universe are just as destructive n their inaction as their action

Sooooooo Back to the actual topic. Featherweight is a hilarious influencer who murders people for the sake of heroism but mostly because her chat told her to

>>155413446Generally I agree with the rule of no bad characters only bad writers and virtually every character has had overhauls. But I think that there are some that run counter to that rule with Dazzler being the most prominent example. There has never been a good Dazzler story and I can't think of anyone aside from gays who see her in a book and go "Yes, it's Dazzler!". A one off Z-list villain from her solo wound up eventually having more good stories than she has.
>>155419100I think Dazzler works best as a world building element in X-Men stories. Showing mutantkind and their effects on pop culture
I think Coagula, Superman, and Jason Todd should start a resurrection support group
>>155416354>I feel like I’ve responded to your genuine points in a manner that did answer your questionAnd I'm telling you, you disingenuous faggot, that you did not. Otherwise you wouldn't have used "sHe hAs pOteNtiAl" i >>155415338, because you would have actually proposed some way that "having potential" is a merit to a character and not just arrogance disguised as the benefit of the doubt. Arguing about the others is worthless if you can't move past a very simple point and address it. You can't address one point that I've explicitly made, and you're unsuccessful in playing dumb to avoid it, so why am I going to waste the text on the others? >>155421013This does play into the DC comics narrative as well. Dreamer is opposed to the DC government due to how they treated her in an effort to harness her powers while Galaxy is opposed to the Lanterns due to their ignorance of her home world and treatment of her afterwards as a possible conspirator and threat due to her ability to interfere with their constructs

I looked up Galaxy because of this thread and I honestly like how old school sci fi she is. She feels like a 60s alien with ill defined psychic powers who dresses like she came from the Jetsons
>>155423203Soft serve is a good character. She’s just a joke character who relies on timing
Simply making them not trans fixes a lot of issues. Mind you they'd likely still be written my a lunatic like most modern comic characters, but it's still a step in the right direction.

>>155425200You misunderstood. I enjoy Space King. I just worry that’s it’s making a few missteps in making Captain and Bryce too similar to each other. Their personalities blend together and I think it’ll hurt the show in the long run.
>>155426072Agreed. Interestingly there’s actually some connection between the dreaming and her backstory as her mother was killed by another dreamer seeking more power over the dreaming.Still I agree, it should feel like an ant meeting God

>>155412322>>155412371I was in those threads. I do like the idea that there's levels of detection.>Baseline, The dreamer and their mind have no idea she's there and consider her part of the dream.>Mildly disturbed. Can happen when a dream changes suddenly before Dreamer can change her design. If someone, for example, goes from dreaming of their childhood to suddenly dreaming of being chased by zombies, and Dreamer is still dressed up lik a kindergarten teacher, the Dreamer may start to catch on. At this stage, the dream may react to her like white blood cells to a foregin body unless she quickly switches into an appropriate disguise.>Alerted. The dreamer isn't aware of who or what Dreamer is in their mind, but their subconscious knows that she is not a normal part of the psyche. Extremely perilous, because the mind will either try to eliminate her or absorb her into the psyche, and that could result in Dreamer OR the target being driven insane.>Red Alert. The Dreamer knows exactly who Dreamer is and what she's doing in their mind. At that point Dreamer is entirely at the mercy of the Target.
>>155418061>No rule34 >Bad caracter
>>155426148Yeah I like that too. What’s interesting is that she also uses the Dreaming in the comics to physically travel long distance in a short amount of time, so the dreaming could also be treated a little like the Warp in that Dreamer picks up levels of mental corruption as she hops from Dream to Dream which she needs to actively cleanse to avoid going temporarily insane
Skipping the trans discussion to say that characters like Superman are pretty bad from a literary perspective. Any good stories with goody two shoes characters with almost no weaknesses succeed in spite of the dumb premise
>>155426221That would be fun. Maybe she has to meditate or something to remind herself of who she is, actively dismantle the dream narratives she absorbed.
>>155426340Could play well into her current psychology. That or maybe she needs to sleep and spend time inside of her dream. Right now in the comics she’s so guilt ridden and self loathing that she might allow them to take hold if not reminded not to
