What makes this series stand out from the rest? Is it just a Gen-Z thing or is there something more to it, the over arching narrative and chapter specific plots and pacing and art style, all of it just really clicks for me personally, can you find any other comic series contemporary or otherwise that has the same vibe as this?

Did anyone read any of Smith's other works? I keep seeing RASL at the library and considering it, but have never seen it talked about much one way or another.

>>155415383>Is it just a Gen-Z thingwhat do you mean by this OP? It's been a scholastic staple since the mid-90s. It was made by a Boomer for, originally, very late Gen Xers/early millenials, and has stuck around as a Scholatic staple. Maybe this has nothing to do with generations at all?
As a 26-year-old who read BONE cover-to-cover in the 2000s, I don't think anyone will contest me for saying that The Great Cow Race is the peak, and the most notable part of the series otherwise is the endgame with the Lord Of The Locusts. TGCR was the best-seller, and the one most kids read on repeat until we could get the sequels.

It's kind of hard to point to a single point in the run and say how it's drastically different from recent earlier points or recent later points, and yet it still started as a gag strip and still ended as a chosen warrior epic. Compare this to basically anything else around the same time, where it's strictly gag-a-day for the entire run (Garfield, Far Side, Family Circus, etc.) or it's a long running extended story where any one strip gives little to no context (Phantom comes to mind, also superhero comics). Epic journey with silly characters isn't that common, so not too surprised you haven't seen it before. Maybe check out some European comics, as they have more variety and can do the unlikely-hero-fantasy-epic a lot easier than NA comics do. You might also want to check out the currently running "d'Orc" from Image Comics to see if it's up your alley, as well.
