>>155415829>Hal Jordan is a racist lectured a by black womanPeople are mad at Lanterns episode 3 because of the racial comments made by John Stewarts mother but my interpretation is that we as the audience aren’t supposed to side with her and are meant to see that she is allowing her own past and racial hangups color her perspective on the guardians and Hal Jordan. I also felt the same way about Zoe in episode 2 putting so much emphasis on her husband being a white man and Hal being Johns “white man.” With the reveal of Zoe being the manhunter in episode 4 to me it seems like a reoccurring theme is people using Johns identity as a black man to make him resentful and angry towards Hal.

His mother, by trying to live vicariously through John to prove that a black man can be worthy of the ring. And Zoe, for whatever reasons she may have due to being a manhunter. We literally get a scene in the newest episode where John is shaken by finding out Hals parents are dead, he realizes his assumptions about Hal having it easy were wrong. The entire show is about two men with preconceived notions about each other slowly learning to look past them. Hal has a negative view of John prior to meeting him due to viewing him as the schmuck who is going to take his job. John sees Hal as the privileged asshole who stole something that rightfully belongs to him.
