Overall thoughts: It's not bad. I understand the hate cause it was the "kiddification" of Looney Tunes but I do think the people behind it generally loved the source material (or were at least good a faking it). Like a lotta shows, it started out strong but by the third season, you could see they're running out of steam having to churn this stuff out.

That's something that needs to be addressed compared to Looney Tunes. The first season of Tiny Toons had 65 half-hour episodes of three shorts each (I know not every episode was like that but let's ignore that for the sake of argument). That's 195 shorts in one year. Looney Tunes did 20 to 30 shorts in a given year (with some outliers like 1941 having 41 shorts. The logic behind this would be to get to that syndication approved 100 episodes but it explains why things burned out the way they did.

As for that characters, they are less interesting versions of established Looney Tunes characters. Plucky is nowhere near the asshole Daffy can be. Buster doesn't have the same edge that Bugs does. Dizzy is definitely the worst offender as he's just a cute version of Taz. A thing that looks very bad when you compare it to Taz in Taz-mania. As for Babs, her impressions are great but she is just a token girl character. Other than being Buster's girlfriend, I can't say there's much here. At least she can be funny, unlike Lola. Elmyra can been interesting at times but early on, she gets neutered. Rest assured she is Elmer Fudd if he was a Trapper instead of a Hunter. Everyone else? Forgettable.

As for standout episodes: the Anvil Chorus is top tier. So is "C flat B Sharp". The pilot "Looney Beginnings" is also quite good.
As for episodes that pissed me off: The shitty attempts to give Elmyra a spinoff. Gang Busters cause fuck your Rock & Roll > Shitty Rap.

Final Thoughts: A good but average series. If there is one thing that bugs me it's that the movie (cause "How I spent my Summer Vacation" was originally going to be in theaters) should've been edgier given they didn't have to care about tv censors. That said, Babs constantly getting soaked by Buster's water guns is hilarious.

I barely remember it. The opening was used in one of the regular Tiny Toon episodes and I have no strong opinion on it. I got more laughs out of the final episode where we see Babs depressed that she doesn't have a co-star who loves her....While it shows Pepe Lepew and Penelope Pussycat on screen.

As Slappy would say, "Now that's comedy!"
>>

Good to know Pepe gets positive rep in TTA proper.
>>
>>155422216
He had a positive rep until #Metoo threw him under the bus. Hell, Tiny Toons Loo wanted to use him cause even the woke retards running that show understand it's all bullshit.

And on a more cynical note, Penelope Pussycat is nothing without Pepe. You don't see anyone vying to use her in their shorts.

>>155422166

Relax, Pepe's "cancellation" was overdramatic social media hype. The only Looney Tunes production he was absent from was Space Jam 2, which was complete shit anyway. He's back in Coyote VS. Acme.
>>
>>155422017
In my mind, Tiny Toons' main problem was being extremely inconsistent. Some episodes are hilarious, up there with some of the funniest cartoons of the era, and others feel like they were written and animated by people who have no idea what comedy is. The infamous multiple animation studios sure didn't help. But it seems like the show's producers knew which scripts were the good ones and assigned them to the best animators, while studios like Kennedy Cartoons got the crap scripts.

There's a reason why TMS was chosen to animate the movie (and the intro sequence.) They also animated the show's best episode, Kon Ducki.

>Other than being Buster's girlfriend, I can't say there's much here.

Babs is funnier than Buster, because at least she has a specific gimmick whereas Buster is just Diet Bugs. The problem is that the writers hardly ever use her. There's like two actual Babs episodes in the whole show. The intro and host segments imply that Buster and Babs are co-stars, but in reality, Buster is the star. Which is a shame because he's kinda boring. At least Plucky, Fifi, Emlyra, Hamton, etc, put some kind of spin on the gimmicks of the characters who inspired them. Buster is just Bugs with less confidence.

>The shitty attempts to give Elmyra a spinoff

I can't believe that they eventually succeeded at this, and ruined Pinkie and the Brain in the process.

Tiny Toons is not that as it adds to the mythos. Examples: Popeye and Son, Sons of Pink Panther, Tiny Toons, etc

>The logic behind this would be to get to that syndication approved 100 episodes but it explains why things burned out the way they did.
There were a lot of syndicated cartoons back then. Some were released on a season by season basis of 13 or so, but yes, 65 episode packages were the big money ideal. A lot of other shows did it this way, and yes it resulted in inconsistent quality with writing and/or animation every time. Most kids didn't notice or care, they were just happy to get a new episode every weekday for 13 straight weeks. I wasn't able to discern bad animation until I was much older myself.

Correct, you can't. Because the whole problem with cancellation is that it ruins a person's life and career. Apu is a drawing, he has no life and career to ruin. And his voice actor still voices over a dozen other characters on the show so he's doing fine.

A person can only have so much outrage, quit wasting yours on make-believe.
>>
>>155426230
She was funny in small doses. Like Elmer, she works as a foil for main characters' jokes because she's persistent yet stupid.

The problem is that the network wanted her to be a breakout character for some reason and kept giving Elmyra her own episodes, and she is incredibly annoying when she's given the spotlight.

>the network wanted her to be a breakout character for some reason

Apparently this was because some of the WB execs wanted a show aimed at girls. And they also decided that girls wanted slice-of-life shows that were relatable, so no fantasy elements like talking animals would be allowed. Since Elmyra was the only human girl among the main cast, she was chosen. That's why her backdoor pilot episode has her going to a completely different school with only human characters.

This was incredibly stupid, of course, but they kept pushing for it for years, until we ended up with Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain. I guess at some point they relaxed the no-talking-animals rule.

Ironically, the "girls only watch relatable slice of life shows" stereotype had been proven wrong by then, as Kids WB had been airing Pokemon and it got absolutely massive ratings with girls.

>>
>>155422533
It really seems like 3 different shows edited together. you had
>Knockoff of a more well known Looney Tunes short
>Basically a sickeningly sweet 80s era show about animal pals that get along, with a moral lesson at the end
>Knockoff of a Disney cartoon with singing characters on a wacky adventure
And it always seemed weird to me that the characters would sing a lot. Looney Tunes characters never actually sang kids songs. I was used to it by the time Animanics rolled around. But the tonal whiplash from one episode to another was so weird, half the time the episodes were not funny at all. I could see they were TRYING to be funny but clearly from someone who is not a comedy writer.

>>155426229
Weirdly what this show should have done was give up both Daffy's since those had some more distinct personalities. We could have had an ego driven asshole Jones Daffy and an insane hooting Clampett Daffy as two different characters.
Like Plucky could have been the insane psycho while Shirley was the stuck up rich bitch valley girl.
>>
>>155426230
Elmyra being the kid Elmer I got. It took a decade or more for me to realize Montana Max was the kid Yoesmite Sam. I just didn't see it.

Probably because Sam's whole thing was that he was tiny and angry. But otherwise he had a different role depending on the short. sometimes he was a bandit, sometimes a prince, sometimes an army guy, sometimes a prison guard, he was anything the short needed.

Max was the exact same every time, spoiled rich kid. He was more a parody of Richie Rich (who had a show slightly before TT came around) and he was really not that flexible for episodes at all.

I grew up with Tiny Toons in afternoon slots on Fox Kids and Kids WB. I can't really recall much of it though. Sort of a blur compared to other shows I watched as a kid. And part of that is because its at most, an ok show that stood out for what was usually show on TV. The animation varied tremendously, some of it being so off model and ugly while others (including the Summer Vacation movie) being done by TMS (Japanese studio known for Lupin and Akira) being absolutely perfect in fluidity and design.
Censorship was pretty heavy, but they tried their hardest to bypass it when they could, even if they overelied on shit like anvils.

Montana Max is unironically one of the most memorable characters because it takes a split second to realize he's a "kid version" of Yosemite Sam despite having very few to any similarities. That and his rasping yelling voice and being a reoccurring antag far more than say Elmyra.
Meanwhile the biggest oddity is the black girl. As a kid, you'd never notice why she's there or who she's based off until I watched the banned Sebben Dwarfs short in the late 2000s on youtube

I'm going to be honest, I liked the effort the writers did for adding her since some of it was indeed funny and you could see the writers hatred for how mean they treated Elmyra in it as retaliation. It was indeed a weird combination considering Tiny Toons and Animaniacs were treated as separate for the longest time for a variety of reasons.

dipshit!

I didn't have the webm, you see, this was my plan all along, I knew posting a low quality pic will force someone to post the webm, now I have it, I have won.

>I have won.

LOL. enjoy your win, dumbfuck!

> Animaniacs s1 turned out to be sorta successful... only to fall off in its followup seasons.
Yeah but at least they made Glormpf into a giant orange ugly cyclops! That way if you criticized even the slightest over the Animaniacs reboot, the shit munchers would just say "Lol you're just mad that Trump was made fun of!"
Isn't it wonderful that in 10-20 years from now people will look back at the humor from 2016-2028 and just see rancid aging milk on a hot counter?
>>
Shirley is STACKED
>>
>>155441295
Maybe? It really is hard to tell what they were going for outside of token black quota. The race swapping Granny thing is fucking stupid though if true.
>>
>>155443049
She's pure OC. Her name was Mary Melody, IIRC.
>>
>>155442254
I always liked A Ditch in Time, but I'm a sucker for time travel episodes anyway.
>>
>>155443014
Season 1 of that reboot was nothing but the first half of production season 1 so the crew would get paid less, production season 2 would've had more episodes but they went so over budget on production season 1 that it only had 8 episodes as a result.

People hated Animaniacs'2020 because Wellesley Wild forced the original Animaniacs crew to do Tower of God and Shenmue: The Animation against their will instead of just going the original crew their baby back so they can go toe to toe with Crayon Shin-Chan like with the original Animaniacs; Trump had nothing to do with it.
>>
>>155444366
>Trump had nothing to do with it.
My point is that its what people remembered about the show and just turned people away for being more overdone political commentary that nobody asked for.
>>
>>155444366
Since when did the window opened to summon Famicom?
>>
>>155444366
Other than being crap, the only thing people remember Nu-animaniacs for is bad political commentary like how they took podshots at Johnny Depp. Boy did that age poorly.

Think about it, did anything of note happen in Nu-animaniacs? Anything at all? Nope.
>>
>>155444666
We got Tower of God and Shenmue: The Animation out of it unfortunately.
>>
>>155424853
Is weird to think Tiny Toons was so writer heavy when the classic sgorts were made by the animators themselves.
>>
>>155445087
It wasn't, it was animator heavy, Kazuhide Tomonaga and Toshihiko Masuda made sure of it.
>>
>>155445087
The animators didn't have to deal with censors and cranked out significantly fewer shorts per year.
>>
>>155438213
I always assumed she was just added simply to have a black character on the show. With the only connection she has to old cartoons was she is named after the black and white series of cartoons.
>>
>>155440978
She appeared a few times in group shots in the second and third season. I don't think she ever had a starring role in a short.
>>
>>155441214
It was a little weird that they made TT counterparts for Bookworm, Sneezer, the vulture, and the dodo but not one for Marvin the Martian until a single short in season 2 or 3.
Pretty sure the Foghorn counterpart first appeared in season 2 as well.

Dodo only appeared one time, and then Gogo had loads of episodes.
Tax only appeared in 3 shorts, but Dizzy was around a lot.

Shirley is such an 80s caricature that just doesn't really exist any longer. She would pretty much have to be changed into something very different than the 1990 version.
>>
>>155445481
Given current culture is just rebooting old culture, naw son. Stranger Things was just a reboot of the 80's after all. And (thanks to the internet) kids know what the Exorcist is.

That's something current day creators don't understand. Kids today know the old stuff cause it's on youtube. They watch the (good) old stuff. Pop culture has become timeless.
>>
>>155445481
they could just make her goth
>>
>>155422026
It pissed me off in "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" as a kid when she went on a date with Fowlmouth. She's Plucky's woman.
>>
>>155442776
TMS episodes were always the horniest.
>>
>>155446644
That wasn't the intent, far from it in fact.

Would have been very interesting if Babs had been Bugs's expy while Buster never needed to exist. This was the 90's so Lola didn't exist yet and they didn't have the balls to make a girl be the main lead so they created Buster instead. Lost opportunity there. Just imagine that Dating in the 90's episode with Babs and Plucky. People will look at Bugs and Daffy differently.
>>
>>155448860
Buster Bunny was just as needed as Doraemon, you can't get rid of him.

Boys don't watch shows staring girls.

Minky Momo and Creamy Mami will like to have a word with you.
>>
>>155445481
She can still be an annoying rich bitch, she just wouldn't be an 80s California valley girl.
>>
thanking Wellesley Wild for tanking the reboot, clearly he understood that it would end up being shit and boy howdy, he was right.
>>
just rewatched the first episode since i hadn't seen the show in decades. it really would've benefited from being shorter.

they missed a golden opportunity of just keeping her as she is, it would have been more endearing and they could have made her be into 80s n 90s style and culture in general... oh wait, they actually did that bit, with Fifi and the 70s when 80s/90s nostalgia was trending in real time.

idk what they were thinking while writing this show
>>
>>155451088
...The showrunner was an untalented unmarried feminist white woman.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Gibson

The show was doomed to failure.

That and she forced the original Tiny Toons team to do a Rick and Morty Spin off no one asked for rather then giving Tiny Toons back to them when they needed it the most.

They were absorbed into their parent company because that Rick and Morty spin off bombed that badly.
>>
>hat and she forced the original Tiny Toons team to do a Rick and Morty Spin off no one asked for rather then giving Tiny Toons back to them when they needed it the most.

okay, she did one thing right I guess.

>>155451407
Oh shit, that is why the Rick and Morty anime was made?!
>>
>>155450145
>>155451088
Honestly I think >>155430895 had the right idea of basing Shirley on Jones Daffy and make her an ego driven, gold digging, popular crowd Stacy, while Plucky is the crazy one based more on early 40s wacky Daffy. That might have him being a little too similar to Gogo Dodo, but Daffy is the bigger character.

An actually crazy character wasn't really present in Tiny Toons outside Gogo. The whole cast seemed to have the very Chuck Jones sartass smug kind of personalities.
>>
>>155451142
Did she also have a fake wedding for a 40th birthday?
>>
>>155451616
Yes.
