Did we watch the same show? Where in Book 1 does she cause chaos to bring balance to an overly orderly world? The closest thing in Book 2 is her opening the spirit portals which she does to stop the spirit attacks and bring harmony to the spirit and mortal worlds. I don't see that as a given. For instance Harmonic Convergence was the catalyst for entrapping Vaatu, and even then we know that Vaatu was able to slowly regain strength as it rattled within its cage. If, after Harmonic Convergence, Vaatu is imprisoned within Korra it can still regain strength and influence. I don't know if Korra is as effective as a magical spirit tree to serve as a prison. In fact, given how much of a fuckup she often is, she has an overabundance of human flaws for Vaatu to work with.

But it's largely a moot point. The writers can and will do whatever they want. For instance even IF Korra is a capable prison the moment she dies and Raava has to zip over to the next Avatar she is, as you said, momentarily reduced to equal power to Vaatu. At this point the two could diverge, each heading to a human vessel, in this case declaring twinsies.

In fact we've known since 2014 that the writer's of Korra talked about Vaatu having influence on her and how it would again become a problem. Mike posited it would happen within 10,000 years, but if the writers decide to instead make it happen much earlier as the hook for their next series, oh friggin' well.

The best part of Korra was unironically the surviving ATLA characters and their descendants. For all the show's problems, watching Korra interact with Katara, or Tenzin (best relationship in the show btw), or Lin were huge bright spots in that 4 seasoned pit of darkness. Watching her slowly develop with Tenzin did more for her character than 3 and a half seasons of romance drama did not. Mako interacting with Lin and Prince Wu gave him a personality.

What's more, there were plenty of characters in Korra who could have been active and relevant here, that was another bright spot in Korra, seeing said old-characters interact with the new world around them. We could have seen Aang's kids fully realized and that would have been fantastic, especially the baby. We could have seen Bolin and Opal's kids, find out what Lin did with her life, or followed old man Iroh Jr. We could have seen how they meshed with the new cast, but that's all lost.

Seven Havens is robbing us of that by setting the show so far that everyone would have died.

The soft line is mainly dark pencil, and I typically use 50%-95% grayscale color for these drawings. I select for each of those and pen stroke overlay each other to created a blended look, although if I needed smoother blending I use blending brush or low opacity watercolor brush. to clarify that is not a process which was used in that drawing, but in general, it is a process where you paint lighter color on top of darker one using a wider pencil, usually 80% gray painted on top of shadows that are in 40-60% gray range. Its good for expressing volume and as an under-painting for a semi-realistic style of rendering.

I think in retrospect it was a mistake to not have more 'Indian' characters. It makes Pavi's show seem very aesthetically disconnected. I'm going to agree that in isolation the show's aesthetic is actually interesting but it doesn't feel it's connected to Aang or Korra's shows at all and the 'post apocalyptic' descriptor doesn't assuage the disappointment of that. Had we seen more of an Indian art inspiration in the original show and in Korra's I think this would have felt more natural. I think you DO see the connection when compared against the Avatar Aang film which leaned into Indian aesthetics for it's architecture and outfits (and look at Sonam's character design).

All that said I think it's a little strange they went for India instead of like, Mongolia and the steppes. I don't think anyone would have complained about seeing a strong Mongolian influence.

The setting is too small and relatively well explored. We know what the map looks like. It would feel like a real retcon if we got entirely new cultures and continents. The avatar cycle is bound to the existence of precisely 4 cultures and has existed for so long that it isn't believable that no one would have discovered a slav continent before. The best I can come up with to accomplish what you want is for the setting to explore the spirit world more to reveal remnant human cultures that were never separated from the spirit world that then developed very differently. At that point it would basically be an isekai story though wouldn't it?

I can't say I understand it either but there was just enough groundwork there that it isn't entirely out of nowhere. We had Guru Pathik, the very word 'avatar' comes from Sanskrit, Buddhism originated in India and Buddhist concepts permeate the show's worldbuilding, and the recent film shows the staff experimenting with a more Indian influenced aesthetic. I just don't think there was enough *overt* Indian inspiration in the original shows to keep things feeling cohesive.

Personally I think I would have preferred they'd leaned more into other nations as a source for inspo:
