Can we talk about how much Deadpool has been Flanderized?
wonder why they didnt put this part in the movie
That’s what happens when one interpretation of a character is wildly more popular than another one.
Left sounds better
>>155423111right just sounds like a dime a dozen edgelord
>>155423111does it count as flanderization when an already over the top character becomes blander over time? is there a word for that?
>Capeshit adaptation of a character that’s popular among normies ruins all future depictions of the characterMany such cases.
>>155423111Age of apocalypse deadpool is really underrated and evil.
>>155423111>>155423162>>155423173He's been Chungus Deadpool for over 25 years now. In his first solo series in 97 his more "goofy" personality took off and by the 2000s, he was just a clown.
>>155423111i don't like that other marvel characters have gotten this treatment too: ant-man and starlord make quirky chungus quips too.
>>155423111if we are using TVtropes-isms, then its less flanderization and more a combination of "characterization marches on", "early installment weirdness", and "ink stain adaptation" his early run was basically nothing at all like what he would become, being a rather blatant dearhstroke clone
>>155423111>Reynolds Deadpool>Well adjusted
>>155423800TVtropes is useful shorthand for fiction, but their unwillingness to trope anything real-life that's remotely controversial (even if objectively true and 100% legally defensible) will always make them super-cucks in my mind.
>>155423111>ChimichangaOnly one I mind. It's literally just WAFFLES xD again, or schwarma if you prefer. There's not really any humor value in it.>Friends and girlfriendFine by me if the friends just kinda tolerate him because they know he's a decent dude deep down>Well adjusted>ProgressiveI think neither of these should be set in stone but are harmless enough>Goes after bad guysMercenaries usually do anyway. Can't exactly throw this guy against Captain America and Spider-Man all the time.>QuirkyNecessary for the batshit insane. I prefer silly Deadpool to Twisted Fucking Cycle Path Deadpool. I think he should be a bit more dangerous and unhinged, but not "puts blind old ladies in saw traps" off his rocker. Just "don't trust him to hold your baby" sketchy.
>>155423776This.He's been like this since I was old enough start understanding comic books.
>>155423111>>155423173The flanderization happened long before the movie came out. What happened to deadpool really is a testment of the times. Deadpool was created at a time when grimdark edginess was in vouge in culture (especially in comics). A shfit stated to change around the 2010s when a lot of the edge started to get sanitized and quirk chungus humor started to take root.
>>155424014The main issue is as a character his standards ended up being Nutso, Hilarious, and Fourth Wall Aware. And across different writers there's going to be different interpretations of that. Maybe he does standup and punts babies. Maybe he likes puns and runs around sniffing asses. Maybe he constantly name drops celebrities and jerks off to weaponry. It's difficult to standardize, so it all blends together.
Crying clown archetype is always best
>>155423140Debatable.
Are there any characters in Marvel that haven't had something like that happen? Even Captain America is kind of odd compared to how he started.
Both of these are wrong thoughDeadpool's actual character is a terminally depressed guy who hates himself and uses humor to cope because he believes he's worthless and everyone hates him or should hate him so he's super reckless and overly clingy to anyone who shows him an ounce of affection. He can be a remorseless psycho and a quirk chungus but at his core he's a sad clown.
>boring edgy character turned into fun meta characterSounds like you just have bad taste.
>>155426058This, glad someone who read the comic recalls much of Wade's showboating was to keep appearances of being an unhinged tough guy but knowing no one really cared or bought it. The incidents with Al, Taskmaster, Kitty, Logan and especially T-Ray all make that clear.
