Why was New York so terrible?
>>155424252Did they know?
>>155424252Of course you'll have a bad impression of New York if you only focus on the pimps and the CHUDs.

>>155424252Going by my knowledge of New York from mid 80s and 90s media, it had ghosts, terribly incompetent bureaucrats, ninja clans named after body parts, gremlins, and the Van Buren boys. Terrifying city.
>>155424252I haven't been to New York City but having been to other metropolitan areas like Chicago, Atlanta, and LA I can safely say the worst fucking city I've had the misfortune of visiting is Seattle. It was by far the ugliest, dirtiest, and just miserable city I've been to. It didn't have the severe homeless issue LA did but it was still prevalent. The food was fucking awful with the only worthwhile meals I had coming from fast food joints. Pike's market was small, crowded, and awful. The architecture all looked like ugly soviet blok cookie cutter buildings. Worst of all was the fucking graffiti. I have no idea how Atlanta with its substantial black population had less graffiti and more importantly had the decency to leave their gay tags off of highway signage. Fuck Seattle was such a miserable experience that I hope it burns down. Fuck Seattle.
>>155424252that scene with young Homer in NY with The Entertainer playing behind is one of my favorites of the show >>155424624ikr
>>155426459lol
>>155424252It just is, went to NYC last week for some work related stuff and the place smells like literal shit, had been this disenchanted with a city since I went to New Orleans and the first thing I saw was one homeless dude tossing another homeless dudes salad while the second was digging through a trash can on the street corner
>>155424252Everything bad that happened to Homer was his own fault. Meanwhile the family were perfectly fine on their own. Moral of the story is don't let Barney use your car under any circumstance.
>>155426648how were getting robbed and assaulted his own fault???
>>155427724At the very beginning. He got shitfaced and let Barney use his car. And throughout the episode he made decisions that only prolonged things. Like drinking all that crab juice that made him want to use the bathroom which made him miss his chance to pay his ticket and get the boot removed.

>>155424252they look cool in photos and are romanticized in media but....in ALL seriousness fuck-huge cities like new york are a completely obsolete leftover from the 1800s. it's why they are all falling apart.why save them? modern transportation and communication infrastructure has rendered them pointless abominations of concrete and steel.we did fine before them. we'll do fine after.
>>155430443The EXACT opposite is true, civilization has become more urbanized while rural areas are dying out.It makes perfect sense considering urban areas have all the jobs and attractions.
>>155430443>>155430511also cities have existed for thousands of years lol
>>155424252The Yorksons

>>155430511>jobsThat can easily be commuted to?>attractionsThat you can't afford to go to if you live in a city?
The pimps and the CHUDs, duh.
>>155430511>civilization has become more urbanized while rural areas are dying outThat's not the case in America at all. The cities are the ones struggling because everyone lives in the suburbs and commutes to work in the city by car. So they're not paying any taxes to the city since they don't live in it. It's typically the poor who live in the cities through public housing because they literally can't afford to live anywhere else. They don't pay taxes either so cities often deteriorate over time.
>>155430443>>155424252Since we are having a NYC thread. This is one of my favorite graphical memoirs. Julia Wertz actually lived in NYC and her memoir comics are about her life in NYC. She really seemed to enjoy it from her comics. Although she eventually was priced out and had to move to California. The comics are good, they have funny moments, and they have some good scenery of NYC. She has other comics about NYC history and urban exploration of abandoned buildings. I have a friend who used to live in NYC, and he has mostly positive things to say about it. The people and the pizza mostly. I personally hope I never set foot in NYC. I don't even like being in San Francisco.
Milhouse lost.
