I think mutations could have been done more interestingly in comics.

Mutant X? but like, more grounded in the powers too), where the mutants all have biologically plausible powers. there's a huuuge range of those. Bone blades that can grow out of the bones at will (covered in 'velvet' of course, til it gets torn off), acid spit, vibrating so hard that you can hug someone and instantly give them debilitating heatstroke... hell, fire generation should be plausible enough with the right chemicals, and I guess tools for lighting it. Bioelectricity that's only good for one really good contact shock and leaves you totally worn out... ooooh, camouflage skin like cuttlefish..
