The soundtrack was great the movie was meh
>>
Came out either 5 years too early or 5 years too late I'm not quite sure which.
>>

Pretty sick, saw it at the drive-in.
Had him & Violator figures.

If the ending were re-CGI'd with AI it would be a solid 8/10.
Everyone is ACTING as hard as they can, the action is fine, everything up to the finale where the money ran out is good stuff. Leguizamo is appropriately over the top.

Wasn't there a reboot/remake film coming along?
Were the comics stories any good? Worth collecting? or too 90s? Or is McFarlane just a hype guy?
>>
>>155432499
Leguizamo is genuinely inspired casting as Clown, pretty much comic-perfect.

>Wasn't there a reboot/remake film coming along?
McFarlane's been trying to make it happen for 30 years,
>Were the comics stories any good?
Not really. The cartoon was good though.

>Or is McFarlane just a hype guy?
Pretty much this, McFarlane's Spawn lore is retarded, poorly thought-out, and doesn't go anywhere. Hellboy is the comic Spawn wishes it was.
>>

Spawn is pure STYLE, Hellboy has MOOD and DRAMA.
Overuses the fuck out of Rasputin howsoever, and way too high of a percentage of the stories in Hellboy are "Hellboy shows up, says DAMN! and punches a monster, the end".
Spawn stories are mostly silly edgy crap tho. Stylish I must admit.

>The special-effects movie event of the year!
If only the 90s CGI had actually lived up to that boast.

It has it's moments, some memorably funny lines in the Clown scenes, and Priest was hot but they killed her off too soon. Most of the people in it seem to be trying but ultimately it just doesn't really come together. I do think there's potentially a better movie in the core plot of Spawn, but this was such a product of it's time, and I can see why Hollywood isn't beating down Todd's door to throw money at him to make more Spawn movies after they fumbled their chance in the decade when he was at his peak popularity.

>>155432439
5 years too late to catch the absolute peak of early Image, at least 5 years too early for the CGI they needed to pull this movie off.

Or maybe Hell really does just look like you're trapped in a PS1 game.

With a fat suit, fake teeth AND contacts, he is really putting forth maximum effort here, and easily steals every scene he is in. 10/10 comic movie villain.
>>
>>155432499
Why ai, exactly? Why not just get an effects guy?
>>
>>155432320
The Violator was fucking awesome. He definitely sold the movie. But the story ended up feeling weak. Not a deal breaker or anything but just sorta weak. Especially at the end where it just stops.
>>
>>155432439
It's really interesting how despite coming out like half a decade into Spawns life as a franchise, said franchise was still amazingly shallow.
>>
>>155432570
>Hellboy is the comic Spawn wishes it was.
Damn man. That really really doesn't speak well for Spawn if Hellboy manages to be so much better.

>SEE YOU IN HELL JASON
What did he mean by this?
>>
What were the differences between the original version and the director's cut?
>>
>>155432320
It was serviceable for a first movie. Not.bad, but not great.
>>
>>155432320
it kinda sucks, feels like it should be good cheesy fun but gets a little boring as it drags on. john leguizamo did a great job as violator though. great scene where he dresses as a cheerleader to cheer spawn on
>>
>>155433246
A little bit more blood, gore and some F-bombs to get it to a PG-13 rating for the theaters.
>>
>>155432833
The animated series did a way better job of creating something actually coherent and even it was getting to be a clusterfuck by the end of its run.
